This program contains themes of sexual assault. Viewer discretion is advised.

Full Summary[]

Andy walks around station 23. The other firefighters join her. They take pictures. Aquino joins them to say goodbye. Deja has Andy take a picture of the rest of the group without Andy. Ross arrives with a photographer.

Outside, the flag is lowered and passed between them as they all salute. As they look at the station, Deja says it was her first house, while Barnes says it was his only house. Theo says it took him in after he lost it all, same as Andy.Maddox says it was a good house. Andy asks who wants a drink. Aquino has to get back home before his wife comes to drag him home. Ross tells Andy she knows that was tough, but Andy handled it with grace. She can't promise anything, but she's doing her best to make sure Andy ends up back at 19. They shake hands.

As they clean up, Carina says it was a good clinic day. They had twice as many people as the first day. Jack says Ross wasn't there to see his come back. Maya says she was probably too busy shutting down stations and denying promotions. Maya apologizes for snapping, saying she's still working on that. Carina asks Maya if she's thought about it and Maya quietly asks if she means asking Maya's ex to be their sperm donor. Carina prefers to think of him as her friend, not Maya's ex and he was the last person she thought she'd want. But they've been looking at options for months and nothing has felt right. And he offered and she can't get it out of her brain. Maya says not long ago, she didn't want Maya alone in a room with him, but now she wants him to be potentially in their family. Carina says the thought of the two of them together used to make her want to smash dishes, but now it makes her laugh, because he's a doofus. She's spent a lot of time with him because of the clinic and he's awkward, but he's also kind and humble and smart. And handsome. Carina suggests they think about the future and not the past.

Vic tells Ben she thought she was supposed to have an interview with Tabitha, but she never called. Ben says Vic's still on the list, but they might settle out of court. They want Ben and Bailey to have custody. Vic celebrates, but Ben says they have a final request. Vic says he has to do it whatever it is. She starts to celebrate again. Maya overhears and asks about it, but Ben says Vic is just being silly.

Emmett and Travis enter Emmett's parents' house. Travis sees birthday decorations and Emmett says it's his dad's birthday, which Travis didn't know. He didn't bring a gift, which bothers him. Emmett says it's fine despite Travis's panic. Kitty Dixon approaches them and gets Travis's name wrong. Kitty then calls out to her husband. As they wait for him, she tells them to say he looks nice because she's trying to upgrade his look. They both compliment his sweater as he walks in. He asks if they want drinks. Emmett asks for wine, but his dad tells him to be a man and have a real drink.

Sullivan tells someone on the phone to bring in their fire extinguisher anytime and they'll make sure it works. Ross walks in, followed by Captain Henderson. Ross sends Henderson in to say hi to Beckett, saying she'll join him soon. Ross explains that they're there to test Beckett. Sullivan's upset that she's doing it during shift, but she didn't want to wait longer.

Ross enters the office and they ask him about the pipeline and other recent calls. He asks her to be direct. Ross says someone has concern that he's drinking on the job and he'll have to submit a urine sample. Henderson will escort him, witness him giving the sample, then escort him home, where he'll stay until the results are back. If he's clean, he can return to his shift. He says he won't leave his team mid-shift. He'll stay and she can send in a babysitter to watch him. Ross says after he gives the sample, he can't leave the room until the results are in. He takes the cup and goes with Henderson.

As they enter the bar, Andy offers to buy the first round. At the bar, she and Theo talk about their feelings about 23 closing. Theo was sent there after Michael died. It first felt like exile, but then it became a haven. There was no expectation to promote again or do anything but be a dutiful firefighter. 23 had problems, but being there let him be okay. He's upset that it could be closed so easily. Andy orders a shot and takes it.

As she sits down to eat, Maya asks Ben how it's going with the Millers. Ben stutters over his words, so Vic steps in and says she doesn't think Travis has missed a shift since he started working at 19. Jack reminds her of when he got injured in the skyscraper. It speak to his work ethic. Maya wonders what Dixon's house looks like and Vic says he probably has a sex dungeon even his wife doesn't know about. Ross comes in and they all stand, but she tells them to keep eating. Then she tells them Beckett will be off duty until further notice and Sullivan is acting captain for the rest of the shift. After she leaves, Maya starts to say something to Sullivan, but is interrupted by the alarm calling them all out.

Sullivan looks at Beckett as he enters the barn. Ben asks what's going on and Sullivan says he has no idea. Maya dumps Beckett's turnout jacket on the ground and climbs into the ladder truck.

Vic tells Ben he's welcome for distracting the others, but he should tell them. They need a win. She's their firehouse baby. Ben says they want him to quit firefighting. Vic realizes they don't want Pru to lose another dad. Ben says that's why they're not celebrating. Vic says he can't quit. Just then, they pull up to their site, an underground parking garage.

Sullivan says there's a car fire four floors down. He sends Maya and Jack to fire attack while Vic and Ben are on search and rescue. He calls for additional aid cars.

Inside the packing garage, Ben and Vic call out to people. They find Brenda, who is searching for her kids. Ben tells her she can't go back in, but she says her kids are still in the car. She left them for a minute to go into the store. Their names are Abby and Jonny. Sullivan radios in to say that the fire is coming from a hybrid car that may be plugged in, so they're cutting power to the structure. Ben and Vic tell Brenda they'll find her kids, but they can't do that with her inside. They send her out with Kutler so they can keep searching. The power goes out as she walks out and they continue their search.

Travis looks a pictures of Emmett as a kid. He used to love playing cops and robbers. Kitty says he really just liked playing dress up. He used to wear her heels. Dixon asks if Travis did any sports and Travis says he wrestled for four years in high school, varsity for three. He joined because he had a crush on a guy, but ended up liking it. Kitty says he was a trendsetter for being gay even back then. Dixon asks how Ross is working out. He heard she closed 23. Travis says she's impressive. Dixon says she's the right fit for the moment they're in. She's a woman, plus being Black and Asian. He asks if she's gay, too. Travis says he doesn't know. Dixon says the department needs more conservatism. If you get too many people with liberal ideas in there, you get 19. Travis asks what's wrong with that and Dixon says it all stems from Pruitt Herrera. Now they have a bunch of entitled millennials. McCallister came up through the ranks and understood history, though he had his problems. Dixon says if he's honest, the department has been flailing since he retired. Travis is surprised that's how he's phrasing it, but he got a full pension and the charges were dropped, so it's like he retired. Travis says the boys club is working exactly as intended. Emmett asks if dinner is ready and Kitty herds them to the dining room.

Jack and Maya are struggling through low visibility. They ask Sullivan where the stairwell is. He directs them and warns them they need to get water onto the car so the lithium battery doesn't catch fire. They find the stairwell, but door is jammed. Maya says she's got it and uses her frustration to push it open.

Theo shares a story about Maddox falling into an open septic tank. Maddox approaches with another man, whom he introduces as Jeremy. They went to the academy together and now he's at 42 in Oregon. Jeremy and Andy share a look. A song comes on and Andy and Deja get up to dance together. Andy bumps into Jeremy while dancing and she introduces herself.

Ben and Vic continue calling out for the kids. They've cleared the second floor. Sullivan says if they don't find the kids soon, he needs them on fire attack. They don't want to go back to Brenda without her kids.

Andy sits down next to Theo at the bar. She's upset with the no-sex pact she's in, even though it's given her a lot of clarity. If she had tried talking to Ross before the pact, it would have been even more disastrous. He asks what she means and she tries to explain, but he realizes that conversation led to 23 being closed. Deja overhears him saying that.

Deja's angry that Andy got them shut down. Andy says that's not what happened. Maddox joins them and Deja says they all deserver to know the truth. Andy can tell them or she will. Andy says she talked to Ross before the station shut down and asked to be transferred back to 19 because Aquino was coming back. She didn't ask to be at 23 in the first place. She didn't ask to have to change decades of misogyny. But she'd done her part and was ready to go home. The others are upset and feel betrayed. They decide to go to a different bar. Jeremy defends Andy, saying she tried to help them and it's not her fault, but they leave anyway, leaving Andy alone with Jeremy.

Ben and Vic continue their search and talk about the guilt Brenda must feel for leaving them. Ben hears something and they approach.

There's awkward silence at the table until Kitty says they loved Alicia and she was looking forward to the grandbabies. Emmett reminds her that gay couples can have kids. Travis says one of their lieutenants and her wife are about to start a family. Emmett wants to have kids someday. Travis says he's open to it with the right person, then realizes what he's said and tries to backtrack, saying they never talked about it. Emmett says they haven't talking about a lot of things. Dixon says he was sorry to hear about Dean and how they've been left with a program that they didn't start. Travis is grateful that Crisis One is thriving. It's Dean's legacy. He was skeptical at first, but it's helping. Dixon says PD likes it because their call volume is down. Kitty tells him he'll have to sound more sincere when he's stumping for mayor, startling Travis. Emmett didn't know either. Kitty say it's true and his first order of business will be to eliminate Crisis One. Travis asks why he would kill a program that's working. Emmett tries to get him to back off, but Travis says he's a founding member of Crisis One. Kitty says it's time for cake.

Ben and Vic follow the sound to Abby, who is telling Jonny they have to get up and find their mom. Ben and Vic each take one of them. Abby says she tried to get them away, but she couldn't see anything, then Jonny wouldn't wake up. She's worried about her brother.

Maya and Jack find the car and call for an extra set of hands as they start to attack the flames.

Ben and Vic work to get Abby and Jonny out.

The car battery explodes, throwing Maya and Jack back.

Jonny wakes up as Ben and Vic are checking the kids out for injuries. Abby's relieved that he's awake. Vic says they need to get outside.

Sullivan asks for a report of what happened. Jack radios back that he and Maya were thrown when the car battery exploded. Sullivan says he'll send in help.

Vic and Ben hear that and Ben says they're only a floor away and he can go help. Vic says he needs to stay alive for Pru, so she'll go while he gets the kids out.

Vic joins Maya and Jack and they work together on the fire.

Ben carries the kids out and hands Abby off to Brenda and puts Jonny on a gurney. Brenda says she's sorry for leaving them. Ben puts a mask on Jonny and the kids talk about how cool it was that he carried both of them out like it was nothing. Ben tries to reassure Brenda as they walk to the aid car.

Maya and Jack leave the garage with their supplies. Sullivan say they're done and made him look good in there. Maya says he got what he wanted and looks happy. He says it's just temporary. She says until it's not and he's stepped over her. Sullivan says he's sorry Ross hasn't reinstated her. She says he's the reason she got demoted in the first place. Sullivan asks if they're rehashing that and she says no. Jack quietly tells Maya he knows she's hurting. He gets it because of the pact with Andy. She says that not having sex is not the same as losing your career. He says they're both giving up things they love. He tells her not to let her frustrations get her into more trouble than she's already in. She says it doesn't matter because the chief hates her, so she won't rise again. Jack says if anyone he knows can get knocked down and get back up again, it's her. He knows because he just saw it happen.

Andy and Jeremy take shots together and he tells her about his first station in Oregon getting shut down. It happens and the others will get over it. Andy still doesn't think she did anything wrong. She just advocated for herself, like Theo told her to do. Jeremy likes that in a woman. Andy asks what else he likes in a woman. He says what he's seeing right now, which makes her laugh. She asks if that line normally works for him. He orders two more shots, but she doesn't think she can do another one. She asks if he's really friends with Maddox. He says no. He was actually going to leave when he saw Maddox until he saw who he was with, meaning her. Andy says he did it again and does another shot with him. He orders two more.

As Kitty brings in the cake, Travis says the people of Seattle won't vote for someone with a history of corruption like Dixon has. Dixon says he can do it. Travis wishes him luck getting votes by attacking the fire department, but he'll show them it's run amok. Travis says their programs say lives and improve the community and they do it unarmed and without threatening people. Dixon says the money could be better used improving public safety, but Travis says PD doesn't need more money. They could use the money for so many other things that would help people more. Emmett tries to stop them from arguing. Dixon says that Travis is clearly a career firefighter without any ambition to move up the ranks, which speaks to a lack of commitment to anyone or anything but himself. Or he prefers to stay where no one expect anything of him. Travis says unlike him, who fails his way upward. Even his own son hates him. Dixon says his son was on a path until Travis took him off it. He wasn't gay until he met Travis. Emmett says Travis didn't make him gay. Dixon says now he's a laughingstock. Travis says the only laughingstock is Dixon. Emmett says if he is, it's because Dixon made him that way. Dixon takes a step toward his son but Travis blocks him. Emmett says he doesn't need Travis to fight his battle, but Travis says he does, because that's the first time all night he's stood up to his father. Emmett realizes that's how Travis thinks of him.

Maya finds Vic eating her food from earlier and asks if she's not worried about salmonella or anything. Vic says she just inhaled smoke from a lithium battery fire, so she's not worried about salmonella. Sullivan comes in and Maya tries to talk to him, but he says they're good. Ben says they don't get to steal his joy. He's always letting people steal his joy. He says they got Pru. Maya hugs him as they all cheer. Maya texts Carina that they should ask Jack tonight. Beckett comes in and says he owes them an explanation. He wasn't on the call because he was accused of drinking on the job. It was a baseless accusation and he came out clean because he doesn't drink on the job. But he knows someone in his own firehouse submitted the tip. He can't expect his team to follow him into a fire if they don't believe he can make it through a shift without drinking. So in the interest of their safety, they need to get into fighting shape. They're running intervals in the barn right now. Jack says it's almost midnight and Maya adds that they haven't even finished dinner. Ben says none of them made the accusation, but Beckett says one of them did and until that person comes forward, they're running intervals. He sends them to the barn.

Travis finds Emmett and Kitty sitting on the porch. Kitty leaves to give them a moment. Travis apologizes for not letting Emmett stand up for himself. Emmett says Travis said Emmett reminded him of his dad. Well, Travis reminds Emmett of his. They both know they shouldn't be together, but they're afraid of letting go. Travis told everyone he didn't want to be with Emmett, but Emmett came running back to him anyway. Emmett says he applied to an art program in Florence and he got in. Applying at all was so unlike him. Travis says he's one of the most beautiful, amazing people Travis has ever known. Emmett wishes Travis treated him like that. But he wouldn't have gotten this far without Travis, so he has to thank Travis. Travis apologizes again. Emmett tells him to go. Travis tells Emmett to tell his parents thanks. Emmett says he won't. Travis says he cares about Emmett, which Emmett knows.

The team runs intervals. Vic stops and runs to a nearby trash can to vomit. Maya tries to check on her, but Beckett tells her to keep running. Sullivan tells Beckett to stop it because they're getting sick. Then he admits he's the one who made the accusation because he found booze in Beckett's office. He went looking for it because he thought Beckett was getting sloppy. And he was right. Beckett says he was wrong because he was clean. He thanks Sullivan for his honesty and tells everyone to hit he showers. Ben knew Sullivan was ruthless, but didn't know he was that ruthless.

Andy and Jeremy stumble outside the bar. Andy knows she can't drive, so Jeremy offers to get her an Uber. She says she can get her own. He offers to share one. She says she has a pact. He leans in to kiss her. She says she promised a friend she won't sleep with anyone. They're trying celibacy. Jeremy kisses her neck as she talks, then kisses her lips. She pulls back and says she's going to stay strong, but he can't give her his number and when the pact is over. He asks why she would kiss him in a parking lot if she has the pact. She says he's hot and she likes him and he forced her to have fun when she was having a bad night, but now she needs to get home. His attitude abruptly changes and he aggressively pulls her in. He asks why she's being such a bitch. He tries to overpower her and pulls her back in by her hair, pushing her into a wall. They fight for a minute, then she bites his hand and punches him in the throat. As he drops, she runs away, leaving him struggling to breathe on the ground.

Parking Garage Fire[]

Station 19 was called to 8214 Crabb Way. When they arrived, they found a fire in an undergaround parking garage. Sullivan sent Maya and Jack to do fire attack and sent Ben and Vic to do search and rescue, along with Cutler and Klyne. Vic and Ben called out to people who might be trapped. They found a woman who was looking for her kids, Abby and Jonny, whom she had left in the car to run into the grocery store. At the same time, Sullivan learned that the fire was coming from a hybrid car that might have been plugged in, so they cut power to the garage. Ben and Vic then sent the woman out with Cutler and Klyne so they could continue searching for her children. Maya and Jack meanwhile, struggled to see through the smoke to find the stairs. They were rushed because there was increased danger if the lithium battery or the fuel tank on the car caught fire. They found the stairs, but the door was jammed. Maya was able to break through and they went down the steps. Ben and Vic finally found Jonny and Abby. Jonny was unconscious and Abby had been unable to wake him. When Jack and Maya arrived at the fire, they knew they'd need an extra set of hands. They started working to put the fire out, but there was an explosion, which threw both of them back. Vic and Ben checked out the two kids and then Vic sent Ben out with the kids while she went to help Jack and Maya. The three of them were then able to put out the fire. Outside, Abby and Jonny were reunited with their mother and taken to the hospital.
