Aurelio Wheeler is a patient who developed a periodical effusion after heart surgery.
History[]
Aurelio was in the hospital after heart surgery. He was eager to get home, but Teddy said he had some fluid building up around his heart and they might have to do a procedure to relieve the pressure around his heart and he couldn't go home right away because of that. Teddy and Owen disagreed on his treatment plan as Owen wanted to watch the fluid and see if it resolved itself while Teddy wanted to do a pericardiocentesis right away to relieve the pressure. Teddy agreed to give it time. When he developed cardiac tamponade, Owen and Teddy disagreed again, with Owen wanting to do a needle aspiration in his room while Teddy wanted to take him to the OR to open up his chest. Suddenly, Aurelio started gushing blood from his chest, but with the pressure relieved, he woke up and said he felt much better, though Owen, Teddy, and Macie, his wife, were all covered in his blood. They took him to the OR, where they repaired the damage and Aurelio was stable afterward.
