Bill Meacham is a former Marine who was caught in a wildfire.
History[]
Bill was camping with his fiancée, Eliza, when they met another couple and went backpacking together. They woke up one morning to find the area covered in smoke. They were separated in the chaos and while the other three were rescued, Bill remained unaccounted for. ("How Am I Supposed to Live Without You") Bill later lured rescue to himself by blowing a whistle, which he and Eliza did whenever they got separated on their adventures. By the time the firefighters found Bill, he had passed out. He came to as they were preparing to move him. When the canopy above them caught fire, they moved to a deployment area and deployed their fire shelters. Bill sheltered with Sullivan. When Bill started to panic and wanted to leave, Sullivan told hi she needed to stay calm for those who were waiting for them.
After the fire was put out, Bill was put in an aid car to go to the hospital.
He and Eliza later participated in a program Sullivan developed that helped veterans transition into firefighting.
