History[]
Cass was on her way to dinner with her husband, David, when they ran into Owen Hunt and Teddy Altman, who were out for dinner themselves. When David and Owen were paged to the hospital, they suggested Cass and Teddy have dinner together. Cass was unimpressed with the fancy restaurant and after learning Teddy felt the same, they left to go to the bar next door. As they ate and drank, they talked about their marriages and Cass revealed that she and David had also gone through a rough period and resolved it by opening up their marriage. Later in the night, Cass leaned in and kissed Teddy. Teddy pulled back and told Cass that while she and her husband had an open marriage, Teddy and Owen did not. Teddy then said it was late, so she was going to get a ride home. ("Night Moves")
During a heat wave, Cass came to Grey Sloan to help with their patients. While she scrubbed in with Owen, she apologized for the misunderstanding with Teddy and assured him she wasn't in the habit of kissing other people's wives. She and Owen successfully saved a patient together and then Cass met Teddy in an elevator. Teddy vented about the chaos that the hospital had become and Cass offered to stay and keep helping. Cass then put her hand on Teddy's shoulder, which Owen saw. ("Drop It Like It's Hot")
