Andy tracks down a witness to testify at her trial. Meanwhile, Carina and Maya deal with a stressful situation, and the crew responds to a car wreck.

Full Summary[]

Over a period of several days, Andy searches for another woman Jeremy might have assaulted while Jack helps. Jack brings in breakfast one morning to find Andy reading comments on an article about her. He tells her to stop, but she thinks it's the only way to find the other women. She finds a promising comment, but the person who left it is anonymous. She finds another that talks about Jeremy being a predator in college with the username ClassOf08Dropout. Andy already has a list of his college classmates. She just has to figure out who didn't graduate. Jack tells Andy to eat first.

Sullivan and Ross kiss in bed. She tells him to let her girl, because her neighbor waits at the door for her to come home. Sullivan doesn't care. Ross wonders if they only want each other because they can't have each other. She thought he'd wait for her after Iraq, but then he met and married Claire and it was too hard to watch them be happy on social media, so she deleted him and let it be the past. He didn't know she wanted him to wait, but she knows he wouldn't have done it any differently if he had known. He fell in love and got married twice. He starts kissing her again and she says her neighbor will just have to wait.

At the USCIS office, Carina taps her hand anxiously. She says that it's been hours, but Maya says it's been 40 minutes, not including the time they spent outside in security, which still doesn't amount to hours. Carina can't believe they made her throw away her macchiato, but Maya points out that she doesn't need any more caffeine. Carina goes over all the paperwork she's brought. She asks if Maya brought her passport and Maya's eyes get wide as she asks if she was supposed to bring that. Then she says she's kidding. They went over everything with the lawyer five times and they have everything they need. Maya asks if she's stressed about the interview or about the fact that it's almost time to take a pregnancy test. Her reaction tells Maya it's both. Carina says everything always happens at once. Maya's looking at it like good luck on both fronts. Carina says they don't need luck. They need the officer they're assigned to to be in a good mood. Their entire future depends on one person with too much power. She's bad at waiting, which Maya knows. Phillip Dang steps out and calls them back.

Theo asks what happens if Andy goes to trial and loses. Jack says it's ten years, which makes Theo wonder why she didn't take the deal. Vic says accepting the deal means saying she's guilty. Ben says it's really saying she doesn't want to spend thousands of dollars on a trial and possibly spend ten years in prison. Vic knows public perception will be that she's guilty. The whole city is following her case and debating if she's actually a victim. Vic respects her for standing her ground. Firefighter Kline agrees. Jack says she's convinced she can find another of his victims to testify. Travis comes in, complaining that you have to submit all your financial information to the city in order to run for mayor and take a training course on how to raise money. He wonders why anyone would run for office. The whole point of him running would be to shave points off Dixon, but Travis isn't conservative. Vic has idea, but Travis knows she wants to plan a ruse, which she confirms that she does. Vic says Travis is their only hope. The klaxons ring, sending them out on a call. Ben says Bailey will kill him if he's not back in time for Pru's party.

Luisa tells Andy to let her do the talking. They meet with James Pope, the prosecutor in Andy's case. Luisa explains that they're there because they believe Jeremy raped others before attempting to rape Andy. Pope says that the footage shows them kissing, then they go off-camera, then Jeremy is on the ground and she's running. The evidence collection told them nothing and the bartender made a statement saying they were flirting all night. Luisa starts to explain, but Andy interjects that there are other victims. Pope says he has no record, but Andy says that just means he was never held accountable for it. That's why he was able to attack her that night and that's why he's dead. Pope admits off the record that they've had some anonymous tips, but those don't prove anything. They need to bring him something real or be ready to go to trial.

Station 19 arrives on the scene to find a school bus and a transport truck. As they start to approach the bus, Carl Swaminathan warns them not to get any closer. He tells them he's transporting cesium-137 and at least one container spilled. Ben explains to the others that that's radioactive. Beckett calls for HAZMAT.

As he observes the situation, Beckett asks Ben for more information about cesium. It's used to treat cancer, but can also cause cancer. They can see the container that has spilled in the road, so the kids are safer on the bus than if they tried to move them. Jack suggests moving very quickly to get the kids out of the range, but Beckett can't risk the exposure for his team. They all want to get moving because they know there has to be injured adults on the bus because otherwise, the windows would be knocked out. Beckett says two of them can move in with meters to mark the hot zone then he'll consider sending a med team to the bus. Ben offers, but Vic reminds him that he already had cancer. Jack and Travis offer to go instead. Beckett explains that the dosimeter has a survey meter that will start to beep when it detects radiation. When that starts, they have ten minutes at most. The closer they get, the faster it will beep. Then when the dosimeter itself goes off, they're done and they have to move back out.

Officer Dang scrolls through pictures of Maya and Carina. He asks how long they've been married. Maya says 18 months, but he needs Carina to answer. He asks how many people came to the wedding and questions why so few when Carina says it was about twelve. Carina tells him it's because of the pandemic. He asks if their families came. Carina explains that they don't really talk to their parents and her brother is dead, but Maya says her mom did end up coming and they're close with her work family. She starts to tell him about them having a baby, but stops. Carina says she'll be carrying and they're using a donor. Dang asks how they met. Maya says they met at work, thinking he means Jack. Dang says he wants Carina to answer in her own words, like she would tell a friend. Carina says she was working at the hospital when Maya came in with a nose. Maya says there was a bear attack. Carina continues that she brought in the nose, which was gross. Later that night, Carina saw her again at the bar. And she asked Maya to tell her the story of how she ended up with the nose. Carina knew immediately she was going to sleep with Maya. Maya is horrified, but Carina reminds her that Dang said to tell him like she'd tell a friend. Dang chuckles and asks what happened next. Carina says they actually didn't sleep together right away, which embarrasses Maya, but they started texting. Then she helped Maya deliver a baby during a blizzard. And then they slept together. Maya asks Dang not to write that down.

Travis and Jack go in to start marking the hot zone. Beckett reminds them to work quickly. Vic suggests using the hose to move the container away, but Sullivan says that'll spread the radiation even more. Ben asks if they can at least prepare for extraction and Beckett okays that. He and Vic go to do that and Vic asks him about the dosimeters. Ben says once you're full, you're done. And it never resets. As they approach the bus, Jack and Travis see that the driver is unconscious. Several kids are banging on the windows, calling for help. They step closer, but the dosimeters beep, so they mark the border.

Beckett chugs some water and drops the tablet on the ground. As he picks it up, Sullivan asks if he's okay and he says he is. Theo says they're going to make their way to the truck driver to check on him. Beckett tells them to keep track of their survey meters and not to try to be a hero.

Luisa asks Andy why she thought that was a good idea. Now Pope will throw everything he has at them. Andy stops in front of a coffee shop and asks if Luisa wants one. As they enter, Luisa reminds Andy that she told Andy to let her do the talking. Andy explains that she went on social media and cross-checked women Jeremy knows with people in his class and narrowed it down to five. One of them didn't graduate. She shows Luisa a picture on her phone. She offers to buy Luisa a drink and then Luisa sees that the barista is the woman from Andy's phone.

Ben and Vic move a ladder as close as it can get. They mark the line with flags. They see a kid trying to open the window and move closer to tell him to stop. They debate opening a window long enough to pull one kid out, but their dosimeters warn them that they're out of time. They have to leave the hot zone. Ben wants to run in there, but knows he can't. They tell the kids to sit tight and they'll get them out.

Carl attempts to open his truck door while Sullivan and Theo watch. He tells them not to get any closer just as their survey meters beep. They start marking the line as Carl tells them his leg is trapped.

Vic says they need to get into the bus because the kids are freaking out. Beckett says HAZMAT is 15 minutes away. They don't have that long, so Vic suggests using the ladder truck to move the cesium. Beckett says moving it without proper containment will only do more damage. Travis wants to try moving it, but Beckett says moving it with a puncture will result in leaking. One of the kids starts to punch out the window. Vic tries to go to stop him, but Ben holds her back, reminding her they've reached their maximum exposure.

At the counter, Luisa orders a drink from Holly. Andy orders her own drink and gives her name. Holly recognizes her even before she explains who she is and asks Andy to leave. Andy explains why she's there and what she's facing. Holly asks her again to leave. Andy says she just wants to talk. Holly agrees to talk to her off the record on her break.

Carina and Maya sit silently while Dang reviews some paperwork. He finally asks why they waited to get married until Carina's visa was expiring. Carina says she didn't believe in married, but Maya convinced her. He comments on the timing and Maya starts to answer, but he reminds her Carina needs to answer. Carina says she knows it looks odd that they got married when her visa was expiring, but they'd been dating for a couple years by then and they were afraid she wouldn't be able to return if she went to Italy. Dang notes that she did go to Italy, though, for six weeks. She says she did because she felt like she needed to go there to help. Dang asks Maya about being a first responder as well, a captain with the Seattle Fire Department. Maya says she's a lieutenant now because she was demoted. He asks about that and she explains that she defied an order to save a life. Insubordination is the official reason for her demotion, but unofficially, she thinks it's sexism and possibly homophobia. The chief was threatened by her and then the new chief, a female chief, had the opportunity to make things right and chose to protect the status quo instead. Now she's forced to watch an incompetent drunk and a backstabbing drug addict fight have a pissing contest over a job that's rightfully hers while she wipes up the urine so no one slips and falls.

Edgar is finally able to push the window open over the firefighters' objections. He asks why the firefighters aren't saving them. Vic explains that they're trying, but it's not safe yet. Edgar says there are people hurt inside. When Travis says there's dangerous stuff outside, he asks what it is. Vic then tells them it's radioactive material, so they have to put the window back down. Edgar does so and then tells the other kids to move to the other side of the bus.

Carl gets himself out of the truck and tells the firefighters not to help him. He knows someone has to move the disk so the kids don't get exposed. He knows the firefighters can't do it and he's been in the truck getting exposed the whole time. He's not trying to be a hero, but he wants to do this. He'll make his life shorter so theirs and the kids' can be longer. He tells them about his daughter who wants to be a scientist. If she were in there, he'd want someone to do it for her. He asks them to let him do it.

Carl limps over to the container. He picks up the disk and puts it inside as the firefighters and kids watch. Once it's back in containment, he runs it over to a secluded area away from the bus. The firefighters rush in to start removing the kids from the bus as HAZMAT arrives. As they work on that, HAZMAT tends to Carl. As the lead kids away from the bus to safety, Vic asks Theo if he's okay. He says he is. Vic wonders if Carl is going to make it. Ben makes a face and doesn't answer. Toward the back of the crowd, Edgar tells Jack they were on a field trip when the bus tipped over and the driver went to sleep. And Tim S.'s mom hit her head and was making weird sounds. It was scary, but he knew he had to get them out. He was just trying to open a window, but it was really hard and he wasn't strong enough. Jack thinks he looks pretty strong. Edgar's excited to tell his mom and dad about it.

Dang asks Carina if she owns weapons, has ties to terrorist organizations, or is planning any acts of genocide. Maya asks if they actually expect anyone to say yes. Dang says if they say no and then do it, they can be deported for lying in their interview. When he asks if she has ever participated in human trafficking, Maya starts laughing and says definitely yes. Carina chastises her, but Maya says Dang clearly knows she's kidding. They bicker about it and Carina's upset that she's joking about it. Dang holds up his hands to stop them. Then he turns to the last page, signs it, and tells Carina she has a green card. Then he says they remind him of him and his wife. The bickering is endless. Maya and Carina hug and thank Officer Dang.

Holly tells Andy it was $3 margarita night at a bar off campus. She doesn't even remember talking to him that night as she had several margaritas. She went outside because she thought she was going to puke and he followed her. She woke up the next morning and something seemed off, but she didn't realize until she went to take a shower and her underwear was missing. She showered and then saw bruises in the mirror all over her body. Her roommate told her to report it, but she didn't even know what to say. She failed out of school the second semester because she couldn't keep it together. Her parents were mortified, so they sent her to a shrink to find out why she was suddenly depressed and cutting herself and failing. And then she had a recovered memory of Jeremy pulling her out by the dumpster outside the bar. She said no, but he did it anyway. She told her parents and they reported it to the dean, who told them he didn't want to throw away a young man's future over the word of a drunk college dropout. When she saw the news story about Andy and she was relieved. She has a son. He's five and his dad isn't around. She tries really hard to raise him to be a good man, but the world is working against her. She can't be on the news. The internet is forever. Her son will see her and he'll be angry and she can't give him anything else to be angry about. She's sorry, but she can't. Andy gets it. It's been hard having one of the worst nights of her life out for public opinion. She's out there asking for Holly's help to avoid getting ten years. Holly is shocked she's looking at such a long sentence. Andy says unless all of them start saying it's been enough, the laws won't change. Women will keep getting jailed for defending themselves. Boys only become violent men when they're taught there's no consequence for their actions. Her son should be angry, so angry that he teaches other little boys to be angry about it. Everyone should be angry because it won't change unless it's more than just women who are angry. And that only happens if they talk.

HAZMAT cleans up all the kids and firefighters. Edgar spots his mom and runs to hug her. Ross arrives on scene and asks how they're doing. They all say they're fine. She says PD wants to press charges against Carl. Travis says he saved those kids' lives, which is what Beckett told Ross, but the internet is already outraged. Travis knows Dixon is behind it. Travis asks Ross to ask her something. He's not rethinking leadership in FD. He's going to run for mayor of Seattle. She reminds him he has the entire PD behind him. He asks if he has FD behind him. Ross notes that they're not on the same side. Travis knows that, but he'll do what it takes to steal as many votes from Dixon as possible, because he's everything wrong with the world. Travis is sick of it. If Dixon becomes mayor, he'll gut all the community services they've started. He wants Ross's help. Ross says as chief, she can't point the department toward a candidate, but she can endorse him personally. She tells him to let her know the next steps. As she walks away, the others celebrate with him.

As they carry a some toys and cupcakes into the station, Maya reminds Carina that she's the one who brought up them having sex. Carina says she did that because she knew it would embarrass Maya and make Dang realize they're a real couple. Maya says that's genius. And it worked. Kline is sweeping the barn and Maya asks if the team is still out. He says he thinks they missed a big one, nuclear waste. Maya is disappointed. Carina hopes she'll be less disappointed to miss radiation exposure after their baby is born. Maya says Carina has hobbies and so does she. As they enter the station, Ross comes in. Maya asks if she's there for Pru's party. When she says she is, Maya notes that she and Ben aren't close. Then she backpedals and says it's always a pleasure to have her there. Ross goes to Beckett's office to wait while Maya and Carina go upstairs. Maya says Ross finds a new excuse to come to the station every day. Carina did the same when they were first dating, but Carina didn't hold the fate of everyone Maya cares about in her hands. Carina wants to enjoy their great news for one night.

Beckett says the hospital is saying Carl is stable for now. He has radiation sickness and third-degree burns on his hands. He'll be lucky if that's all it is. Theo says he's a hero. Beckett doesn't think hero covers it. Beckett takes off his headset and leans in to tell Sullivan quietly that he's going to get help to get sober. He might need rehab, but that doesn't mean Sullivan can have his job.

Andy and Luisa wait at the courthouse to talk to Pope. Holly is with them. When Pope approaches, they all stand.

At the party, Bailey tells Pru that everyone there loves her.

Maya sees Jack frowning and asks if he's okay. He says he's fine. Carina says they might be taking a pregnancy test later and asks if he wants to join them. He says no, he doesn't have to be part of everything. He doesn't need a pity family.

Ross quietly asks Sullivan how much exposure he got. He says not as much as when they were serving together. He also tells her the Beckett situation is no longer a problem.

Jack asks Andy if she found the woman and Andy says it's the power of the internet.

Ben calls everyone's attention to him and gives a speech about for the first time in his career, he didn't break the rule. It hurt, but he did it for Bailey and their family, the family he wants to stick around for. When he married her, he knew he'd be a stepdad to Tuck, but didn't realize his wife would open their home and his heart to another young man, Joey, or that they would end up inheriting a perfect little girl. He toasts to Dean. Ben says they love everyone in the room. They're the village Dean wanted for his daughter. They all toast to Dean. As they're clapping, Jack asks if they talked to the DA. Andy says yes and the charges against her were dropped. She's free. Everyone applauds that as well. Vic starts crying. Pru hugs her and tells her not to be sad. He tells Pru she's sad and happy. She wishes Dean were there because he'd be happy, too.

Sullivan finds Ross and tells her this was once his office. They can put a desk in there for her if she wants. Ross says she knows Andy's his ex and this won't affect her decision, but she needs to know if he can work with Andy if a position opens up at 19. He asks whose spot. Before she can answer, Maya comes in and says she wants her job back. She knows they're sleeping together and she'll report them unless she's re-instated as captain of 19. Ross roughly brushes past her as she leaves the room. Sullivan looks at her for a moment before leaving as well.

Vic and Andy read Pru a book. Theo asks Travis if he's really going to run Republican. Travis found a loophole: Independent. Vic looks at them and starts crying again. She says she loves both of them. Ross comes in and asks Andy for a word. The others leave to give them the room. Andy apologizes for the way she spoke to Ross. Ross understands. Andy realizes she shouldn't have blamed Ross for department policy and thinks Seattle is lucky to have her. Ross says now that Andy is coming back to 19, she can make it up to Andy. A lieutenant spot just opened up. Andy asks whose spot. Ross says it's hers if she wants it. Andy checks the lockers and finds that Jack's has been emptied except for a note saying, "You're welcome." She runs outside and sees Jack pulling away in his truck.

Truck/Bus Crash[]

The team was called out to Harborside Research Center. When they arrived, Carl Swaminathan, who was driving a truck that had crashed into a bus, told the firefighters to stay back for their safety. He'd been transporting cesium-137 and knew at least one container had spilled. They called HAZMAT and looked at options because there was a bus full of children nearby protected only by the windows of their bus. Jack and Travis used dosimeters to track the radiation and started marking the barriers of the safe zone, while Vic and Ben started preparing supplies for when they were able to start evacuating the children. Sullivan and Theo then went to check on Carl. He told them his leg was trapped and warned them not to get any closer. HAZMAT was still 15 minutes away and they couldn't do anything with the cesium until they arrived. Carl freed himself from the truck and said that he would move the cesium a safe distance away because he'd already exceeded the maximum exposure time. He got the cesium way from the bus and they began evacuating the children. When HAZMAT arrived, they took care of Carl. Once all the kids were evacuated, HAZMAT cleaned everyone and the scene up. Carl was taken to Seattle Pres, where he had radiation sickness and third degree burns on his hands.
