History[]
Orientation and Hospital Explosion[]
Dani matched for an internship at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. When she came to the hospital the day before her first day for orientation, she decided to sneak into an OR to take a selfie to send to her father. While she was doing that, there was an explosion on the OR floor, which threw a gurney into Dani's abdomen. Dani made her way back out of the hospital and ended up in the clinic helping Meredith triage patients. When Meredith called the interns together to rally them, Dani asked her what she'd do for a patient who had delayed pain after a blunt trauma, then admitted she was the patient just as she collapsed. Meredith had Simone do an ultrasound, which showed bleeding in Morrison's pouch, but nowhere else, so they decided to watch her and wait to get a scan. However, she later complained of fatigue and then started crashing, so Meredith decided to open her up for an exploratory laparotomy in the clinic. She found a bleed in Dani's lumbar vein and was able to repair it. Dani was stable and awake afterward and Meredith said she'd have a leg up on her fellow interns because this made her stand out from them. ("Only the Strong Survive")
Internship[]
When Dani had healed, she came back to the hospital for her official first day. She was assigned to Lucas Adams. She went with him to help Benson Kwan attempt to place a wound vac on Frank Nelson, who had an ulcer very close to his anus. Benson failed and Lucas left Dani to clean up after the attempt. Dani listened as Frank said he wasn't scared of an ostomy, the alternative treatment if the wound vac couldn't be placed. Knowing he was high-risk for surgical complications, Dani asked Lucas to try again to place the drain. While Lucas worked, Dani tried to give him tips because she'd just learned them, but he brushed her off and placed the drain. Later, he apologized to Dani for that, saying he always hated being dismissed by residents and now understood they were just in a rush and didn't want to make mistakes, though he said that wasn't an excuse. When Kavita Mohanty invited him to scrub in as a reward for placing the drain, he asked if Dani could scrub in as well, which Mohanty approved. ("When I Crash")
