Full Summary[]
Vic is running in Bremerton Park. She makes eye contact as she passes a young man. They wave at one another.
Another day, another run. The man runs past her and turns around to wave at her again. She then runs after him.
Vic spots the man again and speeds past him. He quickly pursues her. They halt at the park entrance. After some banter about who's faster, the man says she looks familiar. She says he has been eating her dust for two weeks now. They decide to call it a tie. She guesses they have seen each other at the grocery store but he's a farmers' market kind of guy. He likes his food like his women, organic and disease-free. They agree to take off their masks, at which point she recognizes him from a warehouse fire. He knows she's with 19. She is disappointed to hear he's at 23. His name is Theo Ruiz. He looks forward to seeing her again tomorrow.
Andy and Maya discuss Carina's pasta and cheese all over their kitchen. It reminds Carina of home. Carina comes in and starts washing tomatoes as the firefighters leave for work. Maya tells Carina she loves her before heading out.
At the station, Travis says he's not sure he can treat Sullivan like a probie. Jack arrives with custom station 19 masks. They all grab a pack.
Andy and Sullivan have a private moment in the hallway. They agree to keep it professional. It's just for two more months.
At lineup, Maya introduces the crew to their new probie. Sullivan thanks them all for having his back. Sullivan and Andy notice Dean does not approve. Sullivan hopes it won't be weird. Probie Sullivan is at their service. Ben says as is tradition, the last probie breaks in the new probie. As such, he tells Sullivan the ladder needs a new coat of varnish. Maya announces that today is a COVID cleaning party. She assigns them all zones. Jack receives word that Marsha has collapsed. Maya grants him use of the aid car and tells Ben to go with him. Once everyone's gone, Sullivan tells Dean he missed him at the hearing and asks about his knee. Dean says that's not why he missed it.
Travis videochats with his mother. She's out by the grocery store because she needs gochujang for her spicy tofu. Travis reminds her she needs to stay home but Nari figures that if her husband can go golfing, she can go shopping.
Ben and Jack arrive at Marsha's place. Inara is at work and Marcus reached out to Jack since he didn't know what else to do. Marsha feels hot and her sats are low. It might be COVID. They prepare to move her to Grey Sloan.
Marsha is rushed into the triage tent outside Grey Sloan. Jack calls Inara to inform her he brought Marcus with him. Owen informs Jack that since Marsha has all the symptoms, they are moving her to the COVID ward, at least until they get the tests back. Ben advocates for Jack and Marcus to be tested too. Owen calls over Emmett Dixon, who is volunteering, and instructs him to get Ben some leftover tests from employee testing. Jack tells Ben that Marsha refused to wear a mask. Ben returns to the station with the aid car while Jack explains to Marcus what's going to happen.
Sullivan notices that Travis is taking out some personal stuff on the recliner. In the kitchen, Dean tells him to come back for the floors in 30 minutes when he's done with his own work. Sullivan asks if they have a problem but Dean only repeats his previous statement. The claxon goes off for a suspected head injury.
Ben informs Vic and Travis that Marsha probably has COVID before handing over the keys to the aid car.
En route, Travis brings up his father's "golfing." Vic wonders if Nari knows and if Travis should tell her. Travis doesn't know how to tell his mother that his father is playing with penises outside their marriage.
Vic and Travis at the scene. Gina, a heavily pregnant woman, is screaming at her neighbors and hitting cans of beer with her baseball bat in her front yard. Vic asks her to put a mask on but she yells that God protects them. Vic inquires about the head injury. Gina screams about her bitch baby husband Eddie. Vic calls for backup. Gina warns them to stay away from her for she is pregnant. Travis notices all the beer cans and cigarettes around.
Gina is singing about Jesus as the backup arrives. Vic briefs Maya about the pregnant, possibly high and drunk woman with a husband with suspected head injury inside the house. Maya instructs Ben and Vic to go look for the husband and Travis to prevent Gina from going inside. Gina throws her phone away since her husband fails to answer. It hits Travis on the nose. Gina laughs as Maya decides to involve PD.
Inside, Vic and Ben find Eddie, who tells them Gina can get so mad like she's possessed. He has tried to stitch up his own face. He also refuses to put on a mask. Vic points Ben towards signs of recent drug use.
Gina has resorted to Amazing Grace. She is sure they can't arrest her since her baby is innocent. She suddenly stops and groans in pain. She refuses to get in the ambulance since they transport sick people in there. She wants to go back inside but Travis stops her, stating her baby will be born in jail if she hits her husband with that bat again. Gina then runs to the garage.
Emmett does the COVID tests on Jack and Marcus. He always loved the medical part of the firefighter job. Owen fast-tracked the tests. Jack brings up Michael being back with the PD. Emmett hasn't had close contact with his father since him and Alicia broke up. Alicia is doing okay, all things considered. Jack and Marcus take off.
Andy joins Travis and Maya in the garage. PD is sick of this couple of frequent fliers so they are not in a hurry. Given the smell, Andy is happy to wait for them outside. Travis takes off his bloody gloves and mask to put on a new ones. Gina scolds him for bleeding on her stuff. She appears to be having contractions. She's having her third girl. Her bitch mother took her first two. Gina's water breaks.
Ben manages to get Eddie to sit down but it's hard to get him to stop moving. Vic inquires if they fight like this a lot but Eddie says they were not fighting. Eddie then hears Gina screaming and stands up to go see her but Vic orders him to sit down.
Dean is still not done in the kitchen but it's been 40 minutes. Sullivan tells him to just say whatever's on his mind. Dean says he doesn't answer to him anymore. Sullivan leaves his mop and walks away.
Gina pushes the firefighters away from her and still refuses to get in the ambulance since she labored for 15 hours last time. Maya calls Andy for clean blankets and a gurney. Gina then agrees to come with them but she starts pushing as they head for the door. Mere seconds later, the baby drops out. Maya is just in time to catch it.
Eddie is upset that Vic and Ben are keeping him away from his wife when he didn't do anything wrong. Vic says he can go see her and the baby once they have stopped the bleeding. Eddie really wants to be a good father. He says Gina will kill him if he's not with her when the baby comes. As Gina calls for him, he pushes Ben aside and rushes off.
Maya hands the baby over to Gina. Eddie comes running in. Vic tries to pull him back but he plants his elbow in her face. Ben arrives and holds Eddie back.
A worried Inara comes home. Jack says it will be a few hours before they know for sure that it's COVID. Inara worries they'll have to find a new place if Marsha dies. Marsha's son has been calling. Marsha has ignored him for now but he might take the apartment. Jack says they can stay with him if that happens. He manages to calm Inara down. She wishes she could hug him. Jack explains to Marcus that they need to get Inara a test.
Eddie tells the police officer he didn't mean to hit Vic. Ben thinks he's going to jail but Vic finds rehab more appropriate. Eddie wants to hold his baby but Ben says that is not happening. Gina is determined not to let anyone take this baby. Maya instructs Andy and Travis to take Gina and her baby to Seattle Pres. The officer arrests Eddie and escorts him out. Vic presses an ice pack to her face.
Andy sings a lullaby to the baby. She has been so mad at her parents for their lies. She wonders what chances this baby girl has with two parents who hate each other and the substance abuse. In comparison, Andy's parents did okay. Her mom knew better than to stay. Travis is pretty sure this crazy lady will get to keep her child.
The crew has returned to the station. Maya briefs Dean on the call. Sullivan cheers for the team. Dean tells him nobody asked for his approval. This starts an argument between Miller and Sullivan. Sullivan again asks him about his problem. Dean says it's Sullivan. He reached a level most black firefighters will never even sniff and carelessly threw it all away, according to expectations. He doesn't seem to care that his actions made it harder for the black firefighters coming up after him. Sullivan says he was an addict and that Dean doesn't know his pain. Dean says they all know the pain of the job yet only one person stole drugs. He remembers Sullivan being all high and mighty at the Academy, preaching about integrity. And now Sullivan just got a free pass to do it all again. Sullivan yells that he was injured. Miller threatens Sullivan and Vic interferes before things escalate further and points out people are watching.
In the bathroom, Ben tells Dean that this Sullivan thing is pulling him down. Ben thinks he should consider what Sullivan's carrying. Dean reminds Ben that he lied as well. Ben admits they made mistakes. Dean says Black people don't get the luxury of mistakes. They knew better. Ben agrees. When Dixon screws up, he's a bad apple. When Sullivan does, it's on all Black firefighters in the city. Dean says that is how the world works, unfortunately. Ben points out it doesn't mean Dean has to operate like that, too.
Andy finds Maya stacking hoses in lieu of exercising. Andy asks if that family reminded Maya of her own youth. It didn't since her father only threw things at the wall, not their faces. Maya is afraid to go home. She is afraid of how much like her dad she is. Maya made herself into a perfect copy of her father so he wouldn't find a reason to be mad at her. During her 13th birthday party, one of the girls staying over got a soda and Maya freaked out, because only her father was allowed to touch those. Holly shrugged because it was just a can of soda. A few minutes later, her father came bursting in. Maya remembers tensing up completely while her father yelled at Holly and ripped the can from her hands. Holly then had her mother come get her. When Maya saw all the pasta and cheeses, she felt a similar rage boiling up inside her because she is so used to having control over every inch of space in her home. Maya is terrified she'll snap at Carina. Andy thinks being afraid to be like her father is the first step to not actually being like him.
Ben drops by Marsha's apartment. Owen informed him that she tested positive. The rest of them tested negative. Ben informs Jack that they cannot visit Marsha. Ben brought some transparent masks from when a deaf doctor consulted at the hospital. Jack is grateful.
Vic and Travis check in with one another about their injuries. Travis never expected to be beaten up by a Christian woman. He says the couple will be forgiven. They'll go to church and confess their sins. They torture each other and they're cruel and they drink and do drugs while pregnant. They abuse their kids. And yet they're easily forgiven. But if Travis went to church and talked about his deep love for Michael and didn't repent, he would be headed towards hell. That is what his father is up against.
Dean enters the gym as Robert is working out. Dean says they all share the burden, but Robert dropped his corner and left it to the rest of them. Robert says he has no idea. He spent two terrible years in Montana, a small station with all white firefighters. He sucked up hundreds of racial jokes. When he couldn't put up with it, he put in for a transfer. Dean says that only proves things haven't changed but it doesn't excuse Robert's actions. Robert says Dean's treatment of him feels the same. Dean may have walked in his shoes but he hasn't walked the same distance. He tells Dean to pull out the silver spoon so he may get ready to listen. The two of them fighting is exactly what society wants. Dean says he's not fighting Robert, he just doesn't have time for his excuses.
Dean finds Vic preparing chicken dinner in the kitchen. She gets carried away rubbing the meat. She hasn't been touched in a long time. Vic understands why Dean is so upset with Sullivan. She has written strongly worded letters to him in her head for weeks. She won't tell him to give Sullivan a break but she does think Dean should prove himself wrong by becoming the next Black battalion chief. Dean invites Vic to his place tomorrow.
Jack, Marcus, and Inara are videochatting with Marsha. She is doing better. Jack offers to stay until Marsha comes back, which Inara gladly accepts.
Andy comes out of the bathroom and sees Robert dressed in nothing but a towel. He talks about his worst first shift. When he came back from Montana, this was the first place that felt safe. He thought it feel like coming home but this thing with Dean is making it even harder than it normally would be. Pruitt always said "What's done is done." Robert's doing everything he can to make things right. They are having a hard time to keep their hands off each other.
Theo smiles as Vic runs past him.
Maya comes home and wants to kiss Carina, who tells her to shower first. Maya then asks about the kitchen becoming a cheese cellar. Carina says it reminds her of home. Italy's doing even worse than the United States. Carina is scared for her father. He never follows rules and she can't be there to make sure that he does. It feels good to be reminded of good memories of Italy. Maya apologizes. Carina has to leave for work. Maya talks about the baby she delivered. She will elaborate once they are naked in bed after a shower.
Travis finds his father walking the dog. He quotes Galatians 3:28. He then admits he saw his father's profile on the dating app. Paul tries to deny it. Travis is too tired to have that conversation. He goes to collect his spicy tofu.
Jack briefly wakes up on the couch and finds Marcus settling in on the floor next to him. He smiles.

Domestic Dispute[]
Travis and Vic responded to a domestic dispute in which someone had been hit in the head by a baseball. They arrived on the scene to find Gina on her front yard, swinging a bat. Vic called for backup when Gina refused to back off. Maya, Ben, Andy, and Vic arrived. Maya had Travis guard the door to keep Gina out while Vic and Ben went inside to find and treat her husband, who had been hit with the baseball. She threw her phone at Travis, causing a serious nosebleed. Inside, Eddie, her husband, had a needle dangling from his face as well as other injuries. When Gina started having contractions, Maya and Travis tried to talk her into getting in the ambulance, but she refused and ran into her garage instead. They followed her in and soon afterward, her water broke. Inside, Eddie finally calmed down enough for them to start cleaning and treating his facial laceration. Gina continued to refuse their help, until she finally gave birth in the garage. Maya caught her baby and both of them were then transported to the hospital. Meanwhile, Eddie pushed Ben and then Vic, so he was arrested.
