Elliot Asaki is the ex-husband of Natalia Asaki.
History[]
Elliot came to the hospital with his wife, Natalia, so she could have an Ivor Lewis procedure after chemotherapy and radiation to treat her stage II esophageal cancer. During her pre-op labs and scans, she had a seizure. They did a CT, which showed a bleeding mass in her right temporal lobe, so they were forced to delay her scheduled surgery in order to remove the mass. Because the costs of her treatment had already overwhelmed her Elliot, Benson Kwan suggested they get divorced on paper in order to unburden him of her debts and allow her access to additional financial assistance. After fighting about it, they decided to do it and Aaron Marshall, a hospital lawyer, offered his services pro bono to complete that. Once it was done, Natalia had surgery to remove the mass from her brain. She was stable in the ICU afterward. ("Love Don't Cost a Thing")
Two days after her surgery, Natalia was healing well. She was told she'd need a PET scan, but she began coughing up blood before that could happen. She had the PET scan, which showed that her esophageal tumor had invaded into her pericardium and she was bleeding into her chest. Both Maggie and Winston concluded that it was unresectable, so she was told she would die within the next day. She said she didn't want to tell Elliot because she wanted them to keep planning the divorce honeymoon their friends had pooled together to give them. Elliot figured it out anyway when she sent him to get hot chocolate, which she only did when something was wrong. He went back to her room and they continued to plan their trip as her condition declined. Elliot then climbed into her bed and held her while she died. ("Sisters Are Doin' It for Themselves")
