Everybody's Got Something to Hide Except Me and My Monkey is the second episode of the sixth season and the 79th overall episode of Station 19.

Short Summary[]

Travis discusses his position in the mayoral race as he is determined to kick Dixon out, and Maya admits to blackmail. Meanwhile, the team is called to a fire at a run-down apartment complex that reveals an unsettling cause.

Full Summary[]

Vic and Theo have sex in the shower.

Jack and Eva have sex. They pause when Jack hurts his hand, but then start again. Jack ignores his phone ringing.

Andy hangs up when Jack doesn't answer.

Maya rolls over and starts to wrap her arm around Carina, but Carina gets up and goes into the bathroom. Maya sits up and looks at her running shoes.

Ben is working out in the gym when Maya comes in. Ben saw Maya running in on his way to work, but that was just her warm up. She gets on the treadmill and starts running. Beckett comes in and says the Crisis One paperwork won't file itself. She objects that Vic usually does it, but he makes it clear it's her responsibility.

Vic watches a video of Dixon slamming Travis as inexperienced. Vic says Dixon is just jealous that Travis is getting famous. Sullivan tells him to embrace it as it'll help him win. Travis says he doesn't want to win. He just wants Dixon to lose. Vic says he could win. She shows him a meme of himself. Andy comes in, leaving another voicemail for Jack. She asks if anyone has heard from Jack. Theo says Travis needs a boyfriend now. Vic says candidates with steady partners poll higher than those without, but Travis doesn't think that applies to gay men. Theo says they could set him up, but they don't know any other gay men except his dad. Ben comes in and asks if anyone else has noticed that Beckett has it in for Maya lately. Theo heard Beckett tell Carina that Maya tried to blackmail the chief to get him fired. Andy can't believe that's true. Vic doesn't find it so implausible. They wonder what she could blackmail the chief about. They speculate on possibilities.

Andy finds Maya sorting the paperwork in the conference room. Andy asks Maya to tell her what she just heard wasn't true. She heard that Maya tried to blackmail the chief. Maya asks if Carina told her that. Andy says no, people are talking, but wonders why Carina would tell her that. Maya says Carina thinks something is wrong with her. Andy says there is, if she tried to blackmail the chief. Maya says she just wanted her job back. She saw an opportunity and took it. Andy asks what she did and tells her people are already making up stories that are probably worse than the truth. Maya tells Andy she told Ross she'd report her for sleeping with Sullivan if she didn't reinstate Maya as captain. Andy thought they were just friends, but Maya thinks there's more. Unfortunately, she has no proof, which is why she couldn't actually report it. But Ross went to Beckett and told him Maya tried to get him fired so that Beckett would punish her and Ross could keep her nose clean. If Maya didn't hate her so much, she might love her. Beckett has been taking it out on her for the last six months, but then he told her wife and now her wife thinks she needs therapy. Andy's surprised Maya didn't even tell Carina what she'd done. Maya says it wasn't a good plan. Andy asks Maya to promise her two things. The first is that she never tells any else at the station what she did. Before she can say the second, they get called out.

Beckett says the aid car is wrapping up another call and will meet them on site. He also tells Maya she's on ladder with him because he needs someone to shine his helmet. Maya grabs her things and races over to the ladder, telling Cutler he's on engine. Vic and Travis are still thinking of things that Maya might have blackmailed the chief about as they get their turnouts on. Maya comes back over to Andy and asks her what the second thing is. Andy says to listen to her wife and get some help.

They arrive at an apartment fire and Beckett orders Andy to interior division and Sullivan and Vic to fire attack. Travis and Theo are search and rescue. A neighbor comes out and tells Travis and Theo that her neighbors are older and the man uses a walker. She directs them to that apartment. Andy tries to open the hydrant to find that it's dry. Beckett says he'll call for a tanker in case they need more than the 500 gallons in the engine.

Ross goes over her schedule for the day with her assistant Kel. He says it doesn't leave her time for a lunch break, but she simply won't take one. Dixon approaches and asks if that's how she keeps her figure. He asks her about Travis and they debate over who will get the better union endorsements. Dixon doesn't believe Travis will get the fire union's endorsement.

Carina tells her patient she doesn't think she'll need to be admitted, but she wants to observe her for a while longer. As she leaves the bed, she spots Jack in another ER bed. Jack's a little afraid to see her. He asks if she can yell at him after he gets some pain meds. He holds up his injured arm. Carina tells him she's not yelling at him. When she is, he'll know it. She puts on a pair of gloves and tells him to show her his arm. It looks horrible. He apologizes for leaving and she says he should be sorry for that. She believed he'd made a real change, but he hadn't. Jack says she's right, but his easy agreement upsets her. He tries to disagree with her, but she walks away ranting in Italian.

Travis and Theo enter the apartment the neighbor sent them to. When they get no answer, they break in and find Ivy and Gerald. Theo gets Gerald up and starts taking him out while Travis directs Ivy to follow. Ivy stops to gather some medicine as well as their wedding album before leaving with Travis.

Sullivan and Vic search for the source of the fire. They find an apartment with several computer servers set up. There's fire in the walls. Ethan is desperate to keep them working. Sullivan tells Vic to cut the power to the apartment. Vic goes to do that, but finds the panel sparking.

Andy attaches a hose to the line Vic fed out and Vic uses it to pull the hose up to her while Sullivan gets Ethan out. Andy warns Vic to make it last because they're on the tank until they can get more.

At triage, Travis settles Ivy down and Ben gets Gerald settled in. Travis gives Ivy a mask. She tells him they've lived there for forty years. Ben says an aid car will be there soon to take them to the hospital. Sullivan hands Ethan over to Maya for treatment.

Beckett says to knock the fire down, but reminds them they only have 500 gallons.

Carina brings Lucas Adams to Jack to treat him. Lucas examines him and Jack says he should have gotten it treated a week ago, but Carina says he was in self-destruct mode, like everyone in her life. Lucas says they'll need an x-ray. Carina tells him to stop looking at her and go order it. When Jack says that could qualify as a hostile work environment, she says interns learn by attendings scaring them. She keeps telling people she's meaner because of the hormones. Jack thinks it's because he left, but she says no, they have plenty of sperm. She's just angry at her wife and the world because she has no happy place anymore. She used to love working in her pink scrubs, bringing life into the world, but now they're wearing black scrubs in protest because women's bodies are held hostage by the government. She starts to cry and Jack asks if she's pregnant. She says she doesn't know. Lucas brings a wheelchair to take Jack to imaging, but Carina says he can walk. Lucas doesn't even know where imaging is. Carina ushers Jack out of the bed so she can take him herself.

Maya treats a burn on Ethan's hand. He says he has to get the computers out, but she says that's a conversation for his insurance company now. Ivy doesn't understand how this happened and Travis says the complex wasn't well-maintained. Ivy says when they first got married, it was a nice place to live. They were the only people they knew with a pool. Now they can't afford to move and they can't afford to stay there. Gerald starts coding and Ivy worries. Nearby, Ethan asks Maya if Gerald will be okay. She tells him to stay calm and take deep breaths. She asks if Ethan knows Gerald and Ethan says no. Maya asks what Ethan knows. If he knows how the fire started and Gerald dies, he could go to jail. They're able to restore sinus rhythm in Gerald. When Maya sees Ethan texting someone, she grabs the phone from his hand and tells him to start talking.

Inside, Vic and Sullivan break through the walls and hit the fire with water. They only have about four minutes of water left, which is not enough to put out the flames. Sullivan radios out to ask when they'll have more water.

Beckett asks for an ETA on the tanker. Ross then arrives and says she'll see if she can expedite it. Andy searches for another hydrant.

Vic warns that they've used more than half the water supply. If they have to wait eight minutes, the building won't be salvageable.

Andy finds something and says they don't have to wait for a tanker. She tells Vic to save the last 100 gallons for the siphon. They start setting up to siphon the water out of the pool while the patients at triage continue receiving treatment.

As she starts spraying the fire again, Vic says Andy's a genius. She stopped them just in time to save enough water for the siphon.

Jack holds ice on his wrist. Carina comes out and says they'll take him in in just a minute. She asks if any part of what he told them was true. They were all worried about him when he left. He was supposed to be looking for his foster siblings, but she questions if he even left Seattle or if he's been hiding at Eva's the whole time. Jack says he found his brother in Utah and went to see him, but Cal was younger, only seven, and didn't remember Jack at all. Seemed pointless to look for Lila after that, so he just drove around for a while camping and then found himself back in Seattle. He spotted Eva in a bar. Carina says everyone she knows is in pain. All of humanity seems to be having a moment right now. HIs story is heartbreaking, but he doesn't have to be alone unless he chooses to be alone. Nurse Karen calls him back then.

Travis loads Gerald and Ivy into the aid car and closes the doors, then gets up front to drive.

Maya brings Beckett and Ross to Ethan and tells him to tell them. When he says nothing, she tells them his computers started the fire. Ethan says the computers aren't his. Ross and Beckett get tired of him refusing to answer them and decide they'll call PD. He admits that it's a crypto mine and it's not illegal. Ross wants to know whose computers they are and Ethan stays silent. Beckett quietly tells Ross that PD will get it out of him, but Ross doesn't think they have enough time to wait for that. There are likely others and they're all fire hazards waiting to happen. Maya tells Ethan that she knows what it's like to follow orders and be a good soldier, but following orders just cost 40 people their homes. He still doesn't think he did anything wrong, so Maya tells him siphoning electric power is a crime. She asks if he's willing to go to prison to protect the person behind this if Gerald dies.

Ivy asks if Gerald will be okay. Ben says he thinks so. Ivy is relieved because they're not old enough to bury each other. Ben intends to live to be 100 and wants his wife to do the same. Ivy asks if Travis has a wife and he says no, but he had a husband. Ivy says her grandson is gay and writes down his number for Travis, saying he'll need a husband if he's running for mayor. Ben takes the number for him.

Ethan has finished telling them that Bryan paid him to set up the rigs. He got $2000 a month for this. As a college student, he qualifies for reduced-cost utilities. The chapter the power, the more profit from mining. He has another mine in another apartment with ten rigs going. Ethan doesn't know where it is, but says it's probably another crappy complex like this one. Ross says the crappier the place, the less likely anyone's asking questions. Beckett comes back and says Bryan isn't answering. Maya asks if they should just start knocking on doors in low-income housing, but that will take too long. Ross suggests finding out how many low-income units are drawing an unusual amount of power. She goes to make a call. Maya says Beckett's not a bad captain when he's sober, a sentiment he can't return. After Beckett has walked away, Ethan asks Maya if they used to date because it's clear how much Beckett hates her. She has him sign the tablet to discharge himself. Ross comes back to asks him again where the other mines are and he says he really doesn't know. There are power surges all over the city, so Bryan's mines are ticking time bombs. Ross asks for all users drawing way above average power.

Ross sends the engine to one location, the ladder to another, and says she's going to the third. When they arrive, they will politely ask whoever is running the rigs to unplug them. If they refuse, call PD. They will continue until they hit all five spots or until they get another call.

In the engine, they joke about being the only ones who can prevent crypto fires, a joke Vic doesn't get. Theo thinks Maya must be miserable being on the ladder with Beckett. Andy says they're professionals. Theo wants to know what Maya threatened him with, but Andy says it was probably blown out of proportion. Vic still thinks Ross might have hit on Maya. Andy tells them to knock it off, but Vic says it's only disrespectful if they say it to Maya's face.

They arrive at their first time to find someone they're sure is Bryan standing on a balcony, throwing items into a truck bed. He tells them he doesn't know anyone named Bryan and he's not doing anything illegal. Despite this, he jumps from the balcony and lands on the edge of his truck, slamming his crotch into it, before falling to the ground. They rush to help him.

Maya climbs back into the ladder truck. Their stop was a bust. Beckett gives the next address, which is on Willow Street and Kline starts to drive them there. When Maya starts to ask him about his mention of being into cryptocurrency, Beckett turns on the radio and starts to sing along.

Sullivan tells Bryan he has some bad bruising, but no open wounds or bleeding. As Sullivan lifts the blanket to put ice on the area, Bryan asks if they can keep him covered up. Vic says she'd be more concerned about the fire he's responsible for. Andy stops her, saying it's not the time. Andy checks his eyes. He most likely has a concussion, so they load him onto a stretcher to take him to the hospital. Andy radios Beckett to tell him they found Bryan, but he needs to get to the hospital. She asks about the status of the aid car.

Ben radios back to say they're on their way. Ben tries to talk to Travis about finding him a husband. Travis begs him to stop and then asks why no one believes that he really isn't trying to win. Ben says Travis doesn't believe himself. Travis says he really doesn't want to win because he doesn't want to be like Dixon. Ben says he could never be like Dixon.

Jack struggles to sign his discharge paperwork. He asks if he can just put an X and Karen says she doesn't care. Carina asks him what radiology said and he tells her he has a buckle fracture to the radius, so it's splinted. He says he's fine and all of humanity is in pain. Carina says she wasn't dismissing his pain before. She just means he doesn't have to be alone, because that only adds to the pain. His abusive childhood will only define him if he needs everything to end in chaos. She realizes she's really talking to her wife and leaves.

Ben thinks maybe Ross and Beckett had an illegal crypto pool and Maya found out. Vic likes it. They keep discussing theories until Andy stops them and tells them Maya tried to blackmail Ross to get Andy back at 19. But then Jack left and there was room for her. The rest of them accept this answer. Andy wants them all to get back on their feet and have each other's backs. As they climb into the engine, Andy and Sullivan share a knowing look.

Back at the station, Maya asks if Bryan was okay. Ben says he won't be riding any horses anytime soon. They talk about what Bryan was doing and how wrong it was until Beckett interrupts to tell Maya that Carina is there and ask why he sees her there more than his own girlfriend. As Maya goes to talk to her, Vic expresses shock that Beckett has a girlfriend and they all wonder how he's still so mean.

Carina tells Maya that she saw Jack and he needs help. Maya says that was clear when they found him at Eva's. Andy says the department might have a program to help him, but Beckett says Jack made his own bed. He gives Maya more paperwork to file. Maya says she needs a workout. She's sorry Jack is struggling, but he left. And Maya's dealing with her own problems now. Carina asks if she's started looking for a therapist. She says no. She's going through her own hell and her co-workers are gossiping about her, her boss hates her and treats her worse than a probie, and now her wife doesn't even have her back. Maya goes upstairs. Andy tells Carina she'll call Jack again and Carina leaves.

Jack enters a bar where Eva is serving drinks. She gets them each a shot. She's happy he got his wrist treated.

Vic sees Theo in just a towel and they flirt with each other, then kiss. Vic doesn't believe he could possibly be real because it's too perfect. She's so in love with him and she keeps waiting for the other shoe to drop. She asks him to drop it now. Like Carina married Maya thinking she was a perfect match and then Maya turned out to be a blackmailer. If there's something she should know, she wants to know now. Theo says that nothing is about to drop, and that he feels the same way about her. When she was pregnant and he thought it was over between them, he was devastated. They start kissing again until Travis interrupts them, handing out shame tickets.

Ben finds Maya running on the treadmill. He says Andy told them what she did, getting Andy's job back. That took guts, but it was the right thing to do because Andy belongs there. He's happy Maya did it. After Ben leaves, Maya stops running.

Sullivan gets a notification on his phone and smiles.

Travis watches Dixon on the news talking about crypto bros and reluctantly agrees with him.

Andy tells Sullivan that Maya isn't herself. She's in self-destruct mode and tends to take other people with her when she goes there. She tells him he needs to stop if he's sleeping with the chief. He says he isn't. He's happy because he's on the dating apps and Maya needs to mind her own business. He has a connection with Ross because they served together, but now he can't even talk to her without people accusing him of sleeping with her. He says Andy got it wrong. It's not happening.

Maya enters the station with a bag over her shoulder. She goes into Beckett's office, saying the day was tough with him constantly busting her chops. She gets it, but she wants to declare a truce. She puts the bag on his desk, calling it a peace offering. He pulls out a bottle of alcohol, which she knows is his favorite. She says good night and walks out.

Apartment Fire[]

Station 19 was called to 5178 San Juan Court. They arrived to find an apartment building on fire. Beckett assigned Andy to interior division, Sullivan and Vic to fire attack, and Travis and Theo to search and rescue. A frantic neighbor said her neighbors were an older couple and directed Travis and Theo to unit D to find them. Andy opened a hydrant only to find it was dry, so Beckett called for a tanker. Theo and Travis went to apartment D and opened the door. Inside, they found Ivy and Gerald, whom they evacuated. Vic and Sullivan went into one unit and found a large amount of computer servers and Ethan, who was trying to fix them. Andy fed them a line through the window and Sullivan led Ethan out while Vic began spraying water on the fire, using it sparingly because of the shortage. Outside, Travis and Ben tended to Ivy and Gerald, giving them oxygen while they waited for an aid car. Sullivan then handed Ethan off to Maya and she gave him oxygen and cleaned up his hands. When Gerald arrested, Travis began CPR and defibrillated. They were able to restore sinus rhythm. Maya realized, based on his reaction, that Ethan knew how the fire had started, but he refused to say anything. Inside, they opened the walls to expose the fire. They had very little water left, not enough to put out the fire. Ross arrived and tried to expedite the tanker, while Andy searched for another hydrant. Andy finally had the idea to siphon water from the pool on the premises. This gave them enough water to put out the fire. Gerald and Ivy were transported to the hospital so Gerald could be treated while Ethan was questioned and ultimately admitted he was running servers for someone who was using them to mine cryptocurrency. Maya told Ethan he could go to prison if he protected that person. Ethan said someone named Bryan paid him $2000 a month to let him run the servers and he had other operations around the city, leading them to start searching for those, as they were all fire hazards.

Bryan[]

When they found Bryan, he was throwing things out of an apartment into a truck. When he saw them, he said he wasn't doing anything illegal, then jumped from the balcony, landing on his crotch. They started treating him for his groin injury as well as a concussion and took him to the hospital.
