Sandra Alvarez is Andy's aunt.
History[]
House Fire[]
When Sandra's daughter, Michelle, and her sister's daughter, Andy, were young, they were very close. ("Bad Guy") One day, a fire started at Sandra's house. Pruitt and the rest of station 19 responded to the call and quickly put out the fire. ("Louder Than a Bomb")
Andy's Training[]
Andy came home from school one day with a skinned knee because a boy in her class was harassing her. Johnny said it was because he liked her, but Elena snapped at him not to tell her daughter that. Sandra tried to defend Johnny, saying that's just what people said, but Elena was firm that she didn't want her daughter getting that message. Sandra was horrified when Elena said to hit him back the next time he harassed her. ("When the Party's Over")
Reuniting with Andy[]
After Pruitt died, Andy was going through his things when she started to remember how close their family was. She called Sandra, but didn't get an answer. She continued to call Sandra until Sandra finally called back and said she was on her way to Seattle and wanted to see Andy in person to talk to her.
Andy went to meet up with Sandra and was surprised to learn that her mother, whom she believed to be dead, was actually alive. ("Louder Than a Bomb")
Andy quickly started having a panic attack at the realization. When she had calmed down somewhat, Sandra begged her to hear her mother out. Instead, she ran outside and started hyperventilating again. Sandra expressed regret for not having told Andy sooner. She encouraged Andy to listen to Elena, which she did. After listening to Elena's explanation for why she left, Andy left, telling Elena to have Sandra call her, as she'd tried to maintain a relationship with Andy while Elena hadn't. Sandra later virtually attended Pruitt's funeral. ("Nothing Seems the Same")
Wanting to form a relationship with what family she had left, Andy met them at a park to have a barbecue. They updated her on their lives and their extended family's lives. They also told Andy that they'd mildly stalked her throughout her life, attending her fire academy graduation and salsa competitions. They hadn't kept in touch because the last time they saw each other, Michelle had told Andy about seeing her mom after Andy believed her mother was dead. Over the course of the day, the family caught up and expressed regrets for how things had gone. At the end of the day, they decided they needed to continue to meet up. ("Wild World")
COVID Testing[]
When Carina set up a drive-through COVID testing site sponsored by the Catherine Fox Foundation at the station, Johnny, Sandra, and Michelle came, using it as an excuse to meet Robert, whom they hadn't met despite having regular meetings with Andy in the park. They chatted jovially with Robert while he did their swabs. ("Save Yourself")
Relationships[]
Romantic[]
She is married to Johnny Alvarez.
Familial[]
She was very close to her sister and her sister's family when their daughters were young.
Her relationship with her daughter was somewhat strained when her daughter came out. Over time, she got more used to the idea, but still thought her daughter might end up straight after all.("Wild World")
