Forever and Ever, Amen is the sixteenth episode and season finale of the fourth season and the 59th overall episode of Station 19.
Short Summary[]
Maya addresses some unresolved family issues, and the crew takes matters into their own hands when faced with a life-or-death moment on scene. Meanwhile, Andy and Sullivan's marriage is put to the test.
Full Summary[]
Andy throws her blanket and pillow back on her bed. Sullivan says she didn't have to sleep on the couch, but the only reason she slept there and not at Maya's is because it's Maya's wedding day and she doesn't want Maya to know what Sullivan did today. Sullivan says he saved Andy's job, saved 19. Andy says it's not a discussion. Today, she's a maid of honor and she'll say things that aren't maiden-like or honorable. She leaves the room, telling him to be there by five.
TWO DAYS AGO
Station 19 arrives as a house fire. Station 23 is already on scene, fighting the flames. Vivienne tells Andy that the neighbor who called it in believes there are at least six people living there and none have made it out yet. Maya tells her team they're on rescue while 23 fights the fire. She sends them in to search the house for survivors. Maya sees neighbors watching nearby and asks Dani Delgado if she knows the family's name. Dani says they're the Garcias and their son Steven sometimes plays her with son, Zaza. She's not sure exactly how many people live there, but says there are a lot of kids plus grandparents. They all quarantined together.
Sullivan and Andy enter the house, calling out both in English and Spanish, looking for people. Maya informs them there might be seven people, not six.
Maya is working on something for the wedging when Carina enters the kitchen. They dance together and sing Chapel of Love. Maya asks how Carina knows the song and she says her dad was obsessed with 60s girl groups. Carina's a little concerned with how giddy Maya is, but she's giddy, too. As much fun as four weeks of COVID hell and two weeks of quarantine were, this is a tiny bit better. Carina asks if she's sure she doesn't want to invite her parents. Maya pulls away and says she doesn't even know where Mason is and inviting her mom is complicated. Carina says she'd have to come out, but Maya promises that's not the issue. Maya's not ready to deal with it just yet, but a couple months of marriage to Carina might make her a lot braver. She pulls Carina into her and they kiss. Then she pulls back and says they only have five hours and a lot of work to do. Carina pulls her back in and they resume their singing and dancing.
Vic and her parents are getting the restaurant set up for the wedding. You can't even tell it was burned down a month ago. Lenya thanks Vic for getting them the event, even though it's really just Vic and like twelve of her friends. Vic informs her parents that everyone coming to the wedding is in their bubble and getting tested every three days, plus they're testing before the ceremony, so they don't have to wear masks. Anthony says that Theo came by the restaurant asking about her the other day. They ask about him, but Vic avoids it and says people are going to be there in an hour, so they need to finish getting ready.
Dean tells Condola that it's not a win, but she says it's not a loss, though he says it might as well be, accepting a settlement. It's life-changing money for Joyce. PDs around the country are being forced to look inward and they're going to make a public apology. Dean hired Dola to give Joyce a voice and Joyce is saying that she wants to settle. She doesn't have the luxury of holding out for something intangible like change. Dola leans in to kiss Dean and asks him to take the settlement so she can stop being his lawyer. He pulls back and tells her that he's in love with someone else. She figures out it's Vic. He wants to be friends, but she says that didn't work before and probably won't now. Dola says Dean should tell Vic.
Travis walks with his dad and tells him his captain is getting married today, a woman marrying another woman. Paul is a bit distracted and admits that he's in love, with the same man he'd told Travis about before. He's in love for the first time in his life. He says he'll tell Nari, but Travis says he knows it'll happen when he's ready. Paul asks if Travis has someone and Travis say he hasn't since Michael. Paul says he should because he deserves it.
Sullivan and Andy continue to search the house. Belinda Garcia calls out to them. They find her in the room with two children, Steven and Erica. Sullivan leads them out of the house while Andy continues the search. In another bedroom, she finds Juan Carlos and his wife, Inés, asleep in a bed. She's able to wake Juan Carlos, but Travis has to carry Inés out.
Andy arrives at Maya and Carina's Apartment to start wedding day tasks. She stops suddenly when she hears moaning coming from their bedroom. She tries to back out quietly and leave, but knocks into a shelf and then her phone rings. She tells Sullivan that she doesn't want to talk to him. Maya emerges from the room with mussed hair and lies that they just got out of the shower.
Ben is on the phone explaining his cancer treatment. Bailey comes in and he explains that he's getting another opinion. He doesn't want to take chances. Bailey assures him that he's clear.
Marsha explains to Jack that she's going back to the hospital to talk to doctors about her post-COVID symptoms, two times a week for six weeks. It's preferable to having a tube down her throat. Inara comes in dressed for a run. She says Marcus is doing his homework. Jack says he's going to go help with wedding stuff after he's done making grilled cheese. He invites Inara to go to the wedding with him. After Inara has gone, Marsha says Inara told her about her sister, who has cleaned herself up and needs help with her kids. Inara is going to California to help her out. Jack is unresponsive as she talks and Marsha is upset because she wants Jack to go with Inara. Marsha tells Jack to go and build a life with Inara. Marsha says she's fine. She's lived alone her whole life and she's used to it. Plus she likes the idea of a California vacation.
Andy and Maya look over the many wedding outfits Maya has to choose from. Andy's surprised Maya waited until the last minute. Maya doesn't know what kind of bride she is. There will be pictures, but Andy says they'll go in an album on their coffee table. More people will see the picture of her on the Wheaties box. Carina comes out and says they could be done already if Maya let her pick. Maya says that's back luck, but Carina says she's not the groom. Maya tells Carina to let her see what Carina's wearing, but Carina refuses. Maya notices Andy's distracted and gets her attention.
Sullivan leads Belinda, Steven, and Erica out of the house. Behind them, Andy leads Juan Carlos out as Theo arrives and gears up. He and Travis acknowledge each other as Theo enters the house. Travis puts Inés on a gurney while Sullivan gets the others settled on a blanket. Belinda sees her mother on the gurney and calls out to her. Belinda says she woke up and heard the dog barking, then she saw smoke so she ran upstairs. She tells Andy the teenagers' room is at the other end of the hall. There are two of them, Tina and Jorge. Her husband is at work, but her abuela is still inside the house. She's 90 and insists on sleeping on the couch. Andy tells her there was no one on the couch when they went into the house. Andy asks if there's anyone else missing and Belinda says just Roxy, the dog. Andy says they'll find her.
Dean and Ben talk about the proposed settlement as they walk toward the restaurant. The settlement includes a public apology. Dean also says that Dola asked him out, but he said no because of Vic. They run into Jack outside the door and Ben is surprised that Jack knows about Vic. Ben and Jack encourage Dean to tell Vic how he feels. They don't want Dean to have regrets.
Inside, Lenya greets the team with hugs and kisses, ignoring Vic's objections. Travis announces to the whole room that his dad is in love for the first time ever at age 63. Meanwhile, Travis can't bring himself to ask Emmett to be his date to a wedding. He goes to the kitchen to help Anthony.
Andy asks Maya if she's sure, because Andy's certain she could take Maya's dad. Maya doesn't want to think about it. She wants no drama, no stress. She just wants to marry the woman she loves. Andy's proud of Maya. Maya says she learned it from watching Andy. She and Sullivan have been through it all and they're stronger than ever. Andy says they've been through a lot.
Dean tells Vic about the offered settlement. Dean doesn't consider a victory, but Vic does. PD doesn't usually settle. Dean wonders if they are using this as false proof that they're change. Vic says the country is changing and hopes the institutions will someday too. Dean's surprised that Vic is such an optimist and she says someone has to balance him out. He tries to tell her, but she walks away.
Maya calls for another aid car, saying they have another victim not accounted for. She's told it might take a while. Fire Chief McCallister comes to her and tells her that response times all over the city are falling. They both see Dani walking around calling for her son, Zaza. He loves fire trucks and wasn't in bed when she went to wake him. Maya says they'll keep an eye out for him.
Belinda and her kids are still on the blanket receiving oxygen when Roxy comes up to them. Andy says they still haven't found abuelita. Belinda says she gets confused and thinks she's still young. Suddenly, Belinda collapses from respiratory distress.
Andy is driving Maya to the venue. A pile of possible outfits is sitting in the back seat. Maya worries about them both choosing pink until Andy reminds her that she didn't bring any pink choices. Andy thinks she's focusing on the outfit to avoid thinking about her parents and how they don't know she's getting married. Andy got married when she did so her dad could be there. It's a big thing, even if you have a tough relationship. Maya finally relents and agrees to detour for five minutes. Andy turns the car.
Andy packs Belinda into an aid car and sends her to the hospital. Maya points to where abuelita is being led out and then calls for another aid car. Abuelita tells Andy that the neighbor boy was inside the house, that he was helping her back to bed. Maya sends Andy back in to look for Zaza then goes to Dani and tells her about what abuelita said about Zaza. Dani realizes Zaza's in the house and has to be held back to keep her from going inside. Vivienne holds her back and tells her they're going to find her son as Maya calls for an update. Inside the house, Andy still hasn't found Zaza. Sullivan finally finds him in a closet, covered in burns.
As they get ready in the bathroom, Jack and Ben try to convince Dean to tell Vic. Ben is shocked to hear about the connection between Theo and Michael.
Theo goes to enter a room and hits Travis with the door. Vic's dad invited him to the wedding. Theo brought a present, a re-gifted muscle massager. Theo looks at the pictures of Vic on the wall and Travis realizes he really likes Vic. Travis isn't surprised that Theo likes her because she's the greatest person in the world. Theo says it gutted him to learn about Vic and Travis because he knew they could have just been like them and Michael, which is stupid because Travis hates him. Travis says he doesn't hate Theo.
Carina looks around Kaminski's. Vic finds her and Carina thanks her for setting everything up. She knows it was for Maya, but Vic says it's for Carina, too. They hug and Vic congratulates Carina.
Maya knocks on her parents' door. She looks back to Andy, who encourages her from a distance. Lane answers the door and Maya quickly says she's bisexual and she's in love with a woman and she's going to marry that woman tonight. Then she tells her mother, who is standing a ways behind Lane in the hallway, that she deserves more than to be cowering like that and that her soon-to-be wife, Carina, has offered to let Katherine stay with them, which Maya would love. She says if Katherine decides she's ready to leave, she has their address and there will always be a bed there for her. Lane tries to object, but Maya shuts him down, saying she won't hear any more from him. Maya and Andy then walk back to Andy's car.
Maya calls for another aid car for Zaza, but Dispatch says there are none available. She reports that they have a nine-year-old boy with full-thickness burns. Andy puts Zaza down on the blanket and starts working on him as his mother looks on in horror. Dani offers to drive Zaza in her car, but they can't allow that because he needs oxygen and fluids. The protocol is to wait for another aid car, but it'll be eight more minutes, which they don't have. McCallister orders them to wait, but Maya says she's not waiting. They have an emergency vehicle right there, the engine. They can put the sirens on and grab everything they need for him along the way. McCallister points out that if they transport him on the engine, they're opening themselves up to liability. Maya says she can't prioritize fear of a lawsuit over Zaza's life. McCallister says it's his choice and he's ordering her not to do it. She says she's going to save Zaza's life instead. She orders her team to load Zaza up, to McCallister's horror.
The guests mingle at the wedding. Sullivan tries to get Andy to talk, but she ignores him in favor of greeting Katherine, who has just arrived alone. Dean tells Vic it's not fair that she's so talented at so many things when most people only get one thing. Emmett tells Travis he's wearing shape wear, so he can only have like three pierogis. Lenya clanks a glass to get everyone's attention and the ceremony starts. Vic plays ukulele and sings as Ben leads the brides in. Maya smiles when she sees her mother. Maya mouths the final line of Love Me Tender along with Vic. Ben says he was told they were writing their own vows. Maya realizes in horror that she forgot to do that. She was so excited. She starts to panic, but Carina calms her down, saying it's okay. She likes that Queen of the Clipboard Maya Bishop got so excited about something that she forgot. Maya tells Carina that she loves her and she chooses her forever. Carina says she doesn't need to say anything more to that. Maya doesn't even wait for Ben to finish asking the question and Carina immediately agrees, so he pronounces them wife and wife. They kiss.
Carina pulls Maya onto the dance floor. Everyone dances around them. Maya surprises Carina by kissing her as they dance.
As people continue to dance, Theo asks Travis if Emmett is his new guy. Travis says he isn't, not really. Travis tells Theo what happened with Emmett. Theo reminds Travis that Michael wouldn't want him to be alone.
Sullivan tries again to talk to Andy. She says there's nothing he could say that would excuse what he did. He says what he did saved 19.
McCallister tells Sullivan and Andy that he should fire both of them and Maya and close 19. Andy tries to talk, but he says he's not done. Then he changes his mind and tells them both to leave. He's going to talk to Maya next and they'll be notified of the results of the investigation. He has Sullivan hang back while Andy leaves. He asks for Sullivan's take on the situation. Sullivan says Maya's a good captain. McCallister says she's gotten cocky. She's taken her team to protests. She's defying cops on scene. It's indicative of Maya acting outside the bounds of SFD. He looks at Sullivan's record and Sullivan says he's made mistake, but he's clean and sober now. They can't afford any more bad press for their first responders. Sullivan says the team stood behind him when his job was on the line. He can get the house back in order. McCallister wouldn't want the firefighters talking to the press about FD valuing protocol over a child's life. Sullivan believes he can unite them so that doesn't happen. And with him, McCallister will get a battalion chief for the price of a captain.
Andy escapes outside and takes a deep breath. Jack sees her and tells her about what's happening with Inara. He's not sure what he should do. Andy tells Jack that she married Sullivan after one night of telling each other how they felt. They confused lust for love. Jack has to decide if the thought of losing her was worse than the thought of changing his life to be with her.
Carina tells Maya part of the reason she may have been reluctant to get married was that weddings in her family bring drama. At her parents' wedding, her Aunt Stella had a heart attack. At her cousin's wedding, her mother stabbed her father in his hand. It concerns her a little that they have no drama to speak of. Maya says they front-loaded it all pre-wedding.
Vic and Travis talk about Emmett as Ben and Dean talk about Vic. Travis and Dean both say they're doing to tell them, but Dean doesn't want to make it all about him.
Travis says he loves Vic. She's his person and she always will be. He knows she has feelings for Theo and wants her to go for it.
Bailey tells Dean that tomorrow isn't promised, so he shouldn't wait. Dean says he's going to tell Vic and he's also going to take the settlement. The lawsuit ends, but the work continues. Ben also tells Bailey he's not going to go get that third opinion.
Maya tries to get Inara to dance, but she won't. Jack sits with Inara and starts to talk, but she stops him. She knows he loves their little family, but he's not in love with her and she can't let Marcus keep getting attached, so she and Marcus are going to California and he should stay in Seattle with Marsha. She thanks him for saving her and hopes someday he can save himself.
Travis runs into Emmett in the bathroom. Travis tells Emmett he likes him and says he didn't have the guts before to love him back. He's been looking at himself a lot and realizes he wasn't as brave as he thought he was. He wants them to be more than friends. Emmett is overwhelmed and tells Travis that getting over him was the hardest thing he had to do. He doesn't think he can do it again and likes being friends. Travis goes to leave, but Emmett pulls him back in and they kiss.
Dean goes outside to find Vic, but sees her leaned up against the wall, kissing Theo. He goes back inside alone.
Sullivan tries to get Andy to leave so they can talk. He says he did what he did to save 19, her father's legacy. Andy says he offered himself as Maya's replacement when they haven't even opened an investigation yet. Sullivan says there was a danger they could all lose their jobs. He could shut down the whole station. He did what he did to save Andy's family. The firefighters' phones all chime and they check the message. Andy tells Sullivan that he did this. Sullivan tells Vic, who has just come back inside, that Maya has been relieved of her duties. The whole team watches sadly as Maya obliviously dances with Carina.

Rescues[]
Garcia House Fire[]
Station 19 was called to the scene of a house fire. Station 23 was already on site tackling the fire, so 19 was on rescue. The neighbor who had called 911 believed there were at least six people living in the house. They started searching the house and found Belinda and two of her children huddled together on a bed in one room. In another bedroom, they found Inés and Juan Carlos asleep in their bed. They were able to wake him, but had to carry her out of the house. Outside, Belinda told them her teenagers, Tina and Jorge, were in a room at the other end of the hall. She also said her abuelita was in the house, as well as the family dog, Roxy. Maya was informed that all ERs in the city were at capacity, meaning there would be a delay in getting an additional aid car to the scene to transport the grandmother when she was found. At the same time, a neighbor said her son was missing. Then, while waiting at triage, Belinda collapsed in respiratory distress. They sent her to the hospital in an aid car, so when they pulled Abuelita out, Maya called for another. Abuelita told them the neighbor's son, Zaza, was in the house as well. Inside, they searched the house for Zaza and found him in a closet with severe burns. They brought him outside, but there were no aid cars available to take him to the hospital. Maya decided not to wait the eight minutes for another aid car and instead transported him in the engine, against protocol and Chief McCallister's direct order.

And Mom, you don't deserve to be cowering in the hall behind him again. You have other options. You don't have to be here. My soon-to-be wife has offered to take you in and I would like to. So, if at any point you have had enough, you know where we live and we will always have a bed for you.
