Glamorous Life is the eighteenth episode and season finale of the sixth season and the 95th overall episode of Station 19.
Short Summary[]
The Station 19 crew trade in their turnouts for tuxes and gowns as they attend the Firefighters Ball; but when disaster strikes, they jump into action to save the day.
Full Summary[]
Everyone poses for pictures and mingles at the firefighters' ball.
Ben and Bailey look at the items that are available during the silent auction. They aren't impressed by goat yoga. Bailey reminds Ben of their plan to get through this and then get on a flight to Boston for the Catherine Fox Award, which Bailey is presenting. But they don't need awards to know they're badass. Bailey sees a Tuscan villa vacation, but Kitty interrupts. She introduces herself to Ben and ignores him saying they've met before. She says the vacation was an error because no one wants to go to Tuscany this time of year. Ben notes that her name is the high bidder, which she blames on her husband. After she walks away, Ben bids on it.
Maya asks if Carina found a dress. Carina comes out of their closet wearing a prairie dress. A friend of hers was obsessed with Little House on the Prairie. There were also hats. Maya insists that Carina has to take it off. She goes into the closet to look for an alternative. She can't believe Carina doesn't have a dress when she's known about the ball for months. Carina reminds her that she didn't think she was going to be going with Maya. Maya pulls out Carina's wedding outfit and Carina agrees to wear it since they saged it. She turns around so Maya can unzip her dress. Maya pulls down the zipper, then kisses Carina's shoulder. Carina turns in her arms and laments how hard it was to be around Maya and not be able to touch her. They start kissing.
Travis, Vic, and Andy watch Ross talk to Osman. They think she's making a play to remain fire chief, but Travis says it won't happen. Eli already tried. Andy goes over to intervene.
Jack tells Kate he thinks meeting with Lila went well, aside from his rusty sign language. Kate is distracted by the auction items and starts bidding. Jack realizes she's been ignoring him even though they're supposed to be on a date. Kate walks away when she recognizes someone nearby. Nanette, one of the servers, trips and Jack helps her up. She's been telling management about the floors for ages. Jack sees that she's pregnant and asks if she's okay. She thanks him for helping her pick things up, but she says she has to keep working, because she needs the money. She's not keeping the baby though. She'll be placing him for adoption once he's born. She's looking at families now. Jack thinks that's great that she's doing what's best for both of them and she appreciates him saying that. Not a lot of people understand. She goes to get back to work.
Andy talks up Ross to Osman. Osman says he has nothing against Ross, but it's politics. They have to do what's best for the whole city. Andy says they elected him to be different and shake things up. This is his moment. Drew Farris approaches and introduces himself to Osman as the new head of the fire union. He pulls Osman away to talk. Andy tells Eli that Farris is a pompous ass. He didn't get her vote. He tries to walk away, but she says he owes her and needs to talk to Osman. He doesn't believe that's true, but agrees to do it anyway.
Kitty calls everyone's attention and starts the ball. They all enter the ballroom. Theo stops Vic, saying he was supposed to pick her up, but she wasn't there. Now it looks bad because he arrived late. They start to bicker and she says she went to Andy's to get ready and forgot to tell him. She says she's sorry she wasn't there to get picked up. He says she looks great.
Andy finds Ross. Ross heard Andy's been talking about her. She says Andy doesn't need to do that and she doesn't want it to look suspect when she names Andy captain. Andy is shocked when Ross says she's officially the new captain of Station 19.
Farris talks to the crowd about how honored he is to be their new union president.
Bailey isn't impressed by Farris and says the others were right to skip it. Ross catches Sullivan's eye across the crowd and he goes to her. Ben says Eli had some kind of mayoral event, so he and Travis are saying goodbye somewhere. Jack gets up to get a drink and Vic leaves to find Andy.
Andy tells Theo that Ross named her captain. She wanted him to hear it from her. He knew it would never be him. She and Ross have been trading favors. Andy tries to defend herself, but Theo walks away.
Nearby, Ross tells Sullivan the same news, which upsets him. She wants to put everything behind them and love each other and be a couple. She knows this isn't what he wanted, but hopes it's not a dealbreaker. She's all in. He says she isn't and it's the same as always. She says she loves him and wants him to love her back. She lost him once and doesn't want to lose him again. He shares a memory of them holding pressure on a soldier they both knew was dead. They didn't want to call it and this feels the same way. He's calling it. Behind them, Vic and Andy celebrate Andy being named captain. Vic wants to tell everyone, but Andy says Ross will probably make a formal announcement. Vic talks her into telling everyone right away.
Maddox and Barnes are talking to Theo. They heard he was doing well as acting captain. Vic and Andy come in and Vic announces that Ross just named Andy captain. There's an awkward silence, then Barnes calls for a celebration. Theo walks away and Maddox offers him a spot at 7 with them. The rest of them toast to Captain Herrera.
Kitty runs into Jack and admires his arms. She asks him to take a look at their ovens, because something's weird with them and something smells funny, like burning. He goes with her.
Carina says she wants more than one child because her brother was everything to her. She thinks they should have three. Maya vetoes that because they'd be outnumbered. Carina has a confession to make. She saw how much work Maya was doing to work on them and she decided to do a little work herself, looking into IVF. She narrowed it down to two doctors. Maya says yes and wants to start working on their future. Carina kisses her and Maya remarks that they're not going to make it to the ball. Carina tries to get up, but Maya pushes her back down, saying she just wants one more kiss.
Vic finds Theo at the bar. She tries to console him about Andy getting captain, but he interrupts her and says it doesn't seem like he's allowed to feel how he wants to feel about it. He asks if she wants to dig into his mind about it and she says that's not the first time he's brought up her training. He asks why she's never on his side. She knew how much he wanted to be captain. She reminds him that she' helped make him captain in the first place, by taking him back to the barbershop. Kate walks past them on the way to the bathroom. Vic says she's always defended him, but he thinks her loyalty is to Andy. She reminds him that Andy has been her friend since before he was even in the picture. Her cheering Andy on isn't her not being there for Theo. She's just being honest, but he can't handle that. He can't handle any kind of criticism. He's a micromanaging captain and it's made working with him really hard. She's tired of it. He says she walks away from every conversation, which she says is due to him only wanting to talk about being captain. He says the good news for her is that everyone agrees with her. She stops him and asks if this is a break-up. He asks if she wants that. She says she's so over all of this and he says fine and walks away.
Chef Wolf complains about all the bread being ruined as he throws it in the trash. Nearby, Jack looks around and says it might be a circuit problem. Chef Wolf says the desserts are ready and in the fridge. Nanette says she just needs to rest for a bit. Her back is still hurting. Chef Wolf says she's been working too much and another waiter agrees. Jack says back pain can be a sign of labor and she denies being in labor. Jack sees smoke and tells everyone they need to get out of the kitchen.
Chef Wolf says it's probably just a little smoke from something that overheated. Andy says it's much more than that. The building is old, so there could be fire in the walls. Jack grabs the fire axe out of the case and Ross says they need to get into the walls. She has Andy take command. Andy starts giving orders to get into the walls and turn off the electricity, then goes to call in another crew. Jack and Farris start breaking through the walls.
Travis and Vic talk about Theo. Vic thinks Travis is biased because he's in the puppy love stage and wants everyone to feel like that. Vic realizes that what she's feeling is relief. Sullivan knows the feeling.
Theo talks to Kate. Kate thinks he and Vic can talk it out. Theo says lately, they talk at each other instead of to each other. He doesn't think Vic supports him. Kate says she thinks he had great command of 19 and he deserved the captaincy.
Ben goes to Bailey and tells her that the problem is small and contained. She wants to start up the program again. Their schedule is being thrown off. Ben just wants to leave and let someone else accept the award for him. Bailey refuses to accept that. She takes the medal and goes on-stage, over Kitty's objection. She calls everyone's attention, then gives a speech and presents the medal to Ben. Ben gives a speech about the difficulty of accepting the people they can't save. The audience gives him a standing ovation.
Jack, Andy, and Farris have contained the fire. Andy wants to go below to find the source. She has Farris come with her.
Ben and Bailey leave for the airport. On their way out, they run into Maya and Carina, who are upset that they missed him getting his medal.
Kitty announces that the kitchen incident is under control, but there was a fluke with the main course, so all they have is dessert.
Andy and Farris look for signs of fire. She asks if he always wanted to be president of the union. He says his father, grandfather, and great-grandfather were before him. He offers his support if she ever wants to take a more active role in the union. She starts to talk to him about solidarity. He's glad she sees that because 19 has a history of going rogue. She says it can look like that when you're pushing for change. She wants to focus on improving the community with the initiatives Ross started. The majority of them love what she stands for, but he doesn't believe it. They find the source of the fire. The building's not up to code and they need to shut off the power.
People dance at the ball. Jack sees Nanette leaning on a table and checks on her. She says she's in labor. He says she needs to get to the hospital, but she says it's too real. If she's in labor, he's about to be born and she's not ready to be a mother. Jack reminds her of her plan, but she says after this, she'll never not be someone's mother, even if she's not the one raising him. And she hasn't even chosen parents yet. She knows he'll be better off elsewhere, but she worries that she'll see him and not be able to do the right thing. He tells her whatever her heart tells her to do is the right thing. She says she wants him to be adopted and he says that's what she'll do. But for now, she needs to wait while he gets his keys to drive her to the hospital.
Jack goes to the coat check room. He finds his coat and gets his keys. When he goes to leave, he's surprised to see Kate and Theo kissing. Theo chases him as he leaves the room.
Firefighter Yancy and another firefighter from station 46 arrive to work the scene. They're way out of district, but there was a large fire, so they're lucky to get anyone. Andy sees the ceiling crumbling and says they need to evacuate the ballroom.
Upstairs, people dance. Kitty goes to Dixon and says they got outbid on the villa vacation, so he'll have to bid more, which he promises to do. Dixon goes to Ross and tries to shake her hand. She's upset to see him and asks what he's even doing there. He says he couldn't pass up the chance to be Kitty's plus one so he could watch Ross squirm.
Jack makes his way back to Nanette. As Theo approaches him, Andy comes in and tells everyone to get off the dance floor. Before they can all move, the floor collapses, sending several dancers into the hole. Jack is able to grab onto the edge while Nanette falls in.
Farris tells everyone to stand back. Travis and Vic pull Jack back up out of the hole. Andy says they'll need to find a safe access point and determine who's in the hole. Jack is bleeding, but he's more worried about Nanette. Kitty tells Sullivan that Ross and Dixon were talking and then they were both gone. Farris reports that access to the basement is cut off. Dispatch is delayed because of the four-alarm fire. Andy takes the DJ's microphone and sends all the firefighters in the crowd out to 46's rig to get supplies and asks everyone who's a non-firefighter guest to leave, except Carina, who is tasked with setting up a triage area. They start gathering supplies from within the room that they can used to get people out. Sullivan lifts someone out of the hole, then hears tapping. It's SOS in Morse Code, which he believes is coming from Ross, meaning she's alive.
Ben and Bailey are on their way to the airport when Ben gets a message that the floor collapsed at the ball. She turns around the car so they can go help.
Andy, Farris, and Maya tend to Nanette, who has been lifted out of the hole. Maya's worried about a crush injury. They need to get her away from the chaos and Jack suggests the kitchen. He calls Carina to come help.
Kitty looks down into the hole and is horrified when they lift a large piece of rubble off her husband's face.
Ben and Bailey get back to the venue and Maya directs them to where they can help. Travis rappels into the hole to get to Dixon. Sullivan moves rubble in search of Ross. Travis checks on Dixon, who is alive. Vic uncovers a heeled foot and she, Sullivan, and Theo work to dig the owner out.
Maya leads Ben into the kitchen, where Carina is doing CPR on Nanette.
Larsson tries to get Sullivan to stop because Search and Rescue has arrived, but he can't hear the tapping anymore and is worried Ross is unconscious.
Farris and Travis are unable to get the rubble off Dixon. Travis suggests sliding some things underneath to take pressure off his body. He tells Dixon that Emmett used to make him go fishing as a date. And he told Travis that he secretly loved going fishing with his dad, but made him promise never to tell him. Dixon asks Travis to shut up. Farris goes to get lift bags. Dixon says that of all the boys Emmett brought home, Travis was his favorite, but Emmett doesn't bring boys home anymore since he moved to Europe. Dixon begs Travis not to let him die, then passes out.
Theo, Vic, and Jack uncover Kate and work to get her out.
A paramedic has intubated Nanette. Ben says it's been five minutes of CPR. The paramedic says that can continue on the way to the hospital, but Carina says they only have a five minute window to deliver the baby if they want to save both their lives. Ben finds and sanitizes a kitchen knife and asks Chef Wolf to leave the kitchen. Maya stops compressions as Carina cuts into Nanette's belly.
Travis and Farris lift the rubble off Dixon.
Carina works on Nanette, delivering the baby.
Sullivan carries Ross out of the hole and tries to rouse her.
Maya continues compressions on Nanette as Carina operates and Ben works on the baby, who isn't breathing. He finally takes a breath and they all sigh in relief.
Sullivan calls for oxygen for Ross. He tells her he was wrong and he wants to love her. He says they can work everything out, but she has to stay alive. She just needs to wake up. She finally gasps as she wakes up. She leans forward and kisses him.
Carina, Maya, and Ben take Nanette and the baby out to the aid car.
Vic and Theo work on Kate, who has a strong pulse, but is still unconscious. They're able to rouse her. Theo puts a mask on her and says they'll get her to the hospital.
Travis says Dixon lost his pulse as soon as the cement was lifted. Farris has him stop compressions and check for pulse. He checks Dixon's pupils, which are fixed and dilated. Andy goes down into the hole and has Travis stop compressions. Kitty watches from above and cries.
Andy gives Travis some water. She's surprised to see Ross still in the ballroom, but Sullivan says she refused to leave until she knew everyone else was safe. Ross says Andy did good work today. Ben echoes the statement and Andy asks if he's off to Boston. He says it's not looking good, but Bailey understands. Jack also congratulates Andy, who asks how he is. He says he has a little headache, but he's okay. He promises to get checked out. Jack goes to talk to Vic, but Travis catches him first and thanks him for saving his life. Jack then collapses to the floor. They all rush to his aid.

Nanette[]
Nanette was 8 months pregnant and serving at the firefighter's ball when she started having pain in her back. Later, she realized she was in labor. Jack went to take her to the hospital, but before they could leave, the dance floor collapsed and Nanette was among those who fell. Once she was pulled out, Maya saw she had bruising on her chest, indicating a crush injury. They moved her to the kitchen and called Carina over to help her. After five minutes of CPR, Carina had to do a c-section in the kitchen in order to save the baby so they could continue working on Nanette. The baby initially struggled, but finally took a breath. Once the delivery was completed, they loaded her into an ambulance to take her to the hospital.
Floor Collapse[]
Kitty asked Jack to look at the ovens at the venue, as they were having problems with them. He went to look to find smoke coming from the stove. He quickly evacuated the kitchen. Andy and Ross came in and Ross had Andy take command of the call. Andy said there was probably fire in the walls and they needed to find it. She gave orders to evacuate the kitchen, find the fire, and shut off the circuit breaker, then went to call in another crew. They found and extinguished a fire in the kitchen walls, then began searching for the source of the fire. Andy and Captain Farris found the source and went to cut the power. Some firefighters from 46 arrived just as Andy realized the floor above them was about to collapse. They rushed upstairs and started to evacuate the dance floor, but the floor collapsed and several people fell through. Jack was hanging on the edge of what remained of the floor and Vic and Travis were able to pull him up. Among those who fell in were Ross, Dixon, Kate, and Nanette. Andy sent the firefighters out to 46's truck to get supplies as well as getting some from the waitstaff. She had Carina set up a triage area while she sent Maya to get materials to start pulling up the walking wounded. She had everyone who wasn't a firefighter leave. While they were getting people out, Sullivan heard someone tapping SOS in Morse Code, which he believed to be Ross. Dixon was crushed under a large slab of concrete, so Travis went down to tend to him while Sullivan started moving rubble to dig Ross out. Vic found a foot wearing a heel, but when they moved it, they found Kate. Meanwhile, Sullivan found Ross and carried her out. She was unconscious, but he was able to revive her. They were also able to resuscitate Kate and take her to the hospital. Once the slab was pulled off Dixon, he coded and Travis was unable to resuscitate him. After all the survivors had been taken to the hospital, Jack collapsed on the floor.

Notes and Trivia[]
- This episode's title originated from the song Glamorous Life, originally sung by Sheila E.
- This episode scored 3.72 million viewers.[1]
- This episode features the 100th appearance of Danielle Savre as Maya Bishop.
- The dress that Victoria Hughes wears to the ball closely resembles the dress she wore to Maya and Carina's wedding. It was meant as a bookend to her relationship with Theo, which began at that wedding and now ends at the ball. In that way, it was also meant to showcase the growth of the character.[2]
- The song "Do Whatcha Feel" by Len Boone, used in this episode, was previously used in the season four episode "I Guess I'm Floating."
