Grayson Friedman is a patient who needed an ostomy due to ulcerative colitis.
History[]
Grayson had ulcerative colitis which was diagnosed when he was eight. He was in the bathroom one morning when he had so much pain that he collapsed. His parents took him to the hospital, where tests showed acute severe colitis. Lab work also confirmed that he hadn't been taking his medication. When Richard confronted him about it, he said that they caused side effects that got him picked on at school. Despite Grayson's wishes, he needed an ostomy for a few months to allow his bowel to heal. Richard then said he'd change Grayson's medications and Grayson should tell him if those gave him problems. ("Shadow of Your Love")
The next morning, Grayson's parents and great-grandfather left the hospital to pick up Grayson's cousins from the airport. They had come to town, along with his great-grandfather, for his bar mitzvah, but decided to go to Mariners game because the bar mitzvah was cancelled. Levi assured him it would be rescheduled, but he said it wouldn't be the same without his Zayde there and traveling from Brooklyn was too much for him to do a second time. Levi decided to throw Grayson a bar mitzvah in the hospital chapel with a reception in the lobby. He had the interns help put it together, then told Grayson. Grayson was initially reluctant, but Levi convinced him it would be good. He also suggested doing it alongside his great-grandfather, who hadn't been able to have a bar mitzvah himself. Grayson went through the ceremony and then danced in his wheelchair with Eloise Schurmann, his crush. ("Mama Who Bore Me")
