Station 19 firefighters at Grey Sloan Memorial

Grey's Anatomy and Station 19 have had multiple crossover events, allowing characters to appear in either series for a storyline or cameo appearance. Since the debut of Station 19 during the fourteenth season of Grey's Anatomy, several crossover events between the two series have occurred. The characters of Ben WarrenMiranda Bailey, and Andy Herrera are often at the forefront of the crossovers.

Unlike Private Practice, Station 19 takes place in the same city as Grey's Anatomy which allows for secondary characters to also be featured between both shows. Additionally, this allows for characters to casually make cameo appearances on either show without it being considered a crossover event.

Backdoor Pilot, March 2018[]

14x13-30

Meredith meeting Andy for the first time

The Grey's Anatomy episode "You Really Got a Hold on Me" served as a backdoor pilot for what would become Station 19, introducing the lead character, Andy Herrera, stationed at the titular firehouse Station 19 while transitioning Grey's Anatomy alum Ben Warren to the new show.

The plot revolves around the surgical innovation teams from Jackson's surgical competition working on their projects when Ben and Andy bring in critically injured boys. While Ben struggles to separate his behavior as a former surgical resident from his new duties as an SFD firefighter, Andy, with her hand in one of the boy's torso cavity, is brought into the OR alongside the patient to keep him stable. Meredith has Andy clamp the patient's aorta in order for Andy to remove her hand, and she shortly leaves the OR shortly after. Meeting up with Ben, they both go to an OR gallery to watch the rest of the patient's surgery while Ben reminisces about surgery but reinforces his decision to leave surgery for firefighting. While Andy takes a phone call on Meredith's behalf to assist with the latter's polymer acquisition, Richard advises Ben to stick with the decision of firefighting. The two stay until the doctors advise the boys' mother that they both made it through surgery. Before departing, Ben has a conversation with his wife about missing his prior life a surgeon, given what he's experienced at Grey Sloan, but Miranda advises him to let himself miss it and to stay the course with firefighting. Andy meets with Ben afterwards and they hitch a ride on another rig to be dropped off at their station.

The Captain Goes Down, March 2018[]

S191x01-33

Miranda and Meredith advise Andy of Pruitt's prognosis and diagnosis

When SFD Station 19 is called to respond to an apartment fire, Captain Herrera collapses during a sweep investigation and is hospitalized to Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. Herrera is then treated at the ER by Miranda with Andy, Ben, and Jack watching. Once Herrera is stabilized and prepped for surgery, Andy admonishes Jack for breaking Herrera's earlier orders by freelancing, leaving Herrera alone when he collapsed. The heated argument is broken when Meredith checks in on Andy, and upon seeing her emotional state, has her moved to a supply closet and gives her the space to let out her feelings. Meredith then encourages Andy to be strong for her dad while she and Miranda work on him in the OR. After the procedure, Meredith and Miranda reveal that although Herrera made it through surgery, it was revealed that he has cancer and that the abdominal tumors resulted in his earlier collapse. Andy confronts her dad about this which prompts him to tell her that he is stepping down as captain and putting Jack in charge. Angered by this decision, Andy eventually puts her own hat in the ring for Station 19's captaincy after having a heart to heart with her childhood friend, Ryan. Herrera accepts and promotes her to lieutenant so both Andy and Jack can be considered for captain.

Meanwhile Ben has a conversation with Miranda about his recent actions as a firefighter being colored by medical and surgical knowledge that could have been detrimental to Herrera's care once Jack and Andy got him out of the apartment building. Miranda then advises Ben to focus on doing the job instead of showing off. Ben then reconciles with fellow firefighters Travis and Vic and strives to be more of a fire-nerd and tone down being a surgery-nerd.

A Doctor's Visit, April 2018[]

S191x05-1

Miranda visits SFD Station 19

Miranda and Ben are in bed and discuss their respective professional milestones and highlights as Miranda is pleasantly surprised by her husband's increased muscle tone from all the firefighting. Ben then brings Miranda to SFD Station 19 to meet the crew, and Pruitt realizes that his doctor is Ben's wife. When the crew is called away to answer a fire, Miranda admonishes Pruitt for working despite his prognosis and his need for rest. Pruitt argues that by working, specifically at Station 19, will help him heal, but Miranda, pulling from her own medical setback, advises him that it won't work. The two are then interrupted by Lynn seemingly in distress, which they tend to her. When the crew comes back, Bailey asks the crew which of them are married and inquires how their spouses react to the firefighting stories. Before Travis could finish his story about his late-husband, he and Ben are called out, and Miranda has a surgery to perform. Later when Ben's shift is over, Miranda asks him about his day and he lies to her, downplaying the dangerous aspects of his job.

Communication Problems, April 2018[]

S191x07-1

Miranda advising Pruitt of his prognosis

Pruitt hasn't adjusted to his new cancer treatment protocol and visited Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital for a quick check-up. He hoped that he could get medication to counter his nausea and weakness in order to get through work. Pruitt, however, left because Miranda wanted to run testing, and, if anything more serious was discovered, admit him. Pruitt went home soon after, but when Andy questioned his whereabouts, he lied and said he was at poker. When Miranda dropped Ben off to the station the next day, she noticed that Pruitt wasn't as his desk. Because of HIPAA, Miranda can't divulge her concerns about Pruitt with Ben, but she asked Ben to keep an eye out for Pruitt and look for symptoms. Dean also noticed symptoms with Pruitt and asked Ben how serious nausea can be in a hypothetical inquiry. Ben then realized the inquiry was about Pruitt and they confronted Pruitt about it, which led to Pruitt's collapse.

Now admitted to the hospital, Andy arrived and asked why she wasn't kept informed. When Miranda updated Pruitt on his prognosis about the cancer progressing, Andy realized that Pruitt lied to her about poker night which then led to a fight between Andy and Pruitt on why Pruitt keeps things from her. Miranda interrupted the fight and suggested they cool off with Andy leaving while Miranda telling Pruitt that Andy is right with wanting to be kept in the loop about his health. Miranda advised Pruitt that the new protocol will be stronger, but Pruitt reassured her that he's faced much worse, and gave examples of his team's recent firefighting situations that, inadvertently, exposed Ben having kept those things from Miranda. Andy came back to the room after Ben comforted her and Andy decided to stay with Pruitt despite the station being called out to a fire, leaving Jack in charge. Andy then revealed that she made a promise to her mom prior to her mom's death that she would take care of Pruitt, and Pruitt eventually relented, having advised Miranda to now include Andy with his treatment.

After the shift, Ben came home to Miranda and, again, downplayed his day. This prompted Miranda to tell Ben not to shut her out and revealed that she was made aware of the recent calls that Ben withheld from her. He then told her about the strip mall fire that happened earlier in his shift and promised to let her in more of the calls he's on. They then kiss and make up.

The Captain Goes Down...Again, May 2018[]

S191x10-17

Miranda and Ben share a kiss in SFD Station 19

Ben and Miranda arrived at SFD Station 19 late as Ben was running an errand to pick up breakfast tacos for the station crew. Unfortunately, the taco place was closed for renovations, and Ben arrived empty-handed. Concerned that he would lose the respect of his peers, he confessed in Miranda that he should be given more responsibility than getting breakfast tacos. Miranda then decided to speak to Ben's superiors about wasting Ben's talents on errands, and she rushed upstairs. Ben soon followed and discovered this was a ploy, with Miranda as an accomplice, to celebrate a firefighting milestone in Ben's career. He is then treated to an extensive breakfast cooked by Travis' boyfriend, Grant.

Pruitt later called Ryan for assistance so he can be transported to the hospital due to his shallow breathing and not wanting to risk driving. Miranda, concerned that Pruitt didn't make his appointment, arrived at the station to check on Pruitt with Ryan having arrived shortly after. The two then found Pruitt on the catwalk, unconscious, unresponsive, and barely breathing. Miranda administered CPR, but wasn't effective in reviving Pruitt. Ryan then carried Pruitt to his car in order to bring him to the hospital with Miranda following.

Forrester Family, October 2018[]

S192x02-2

The firefighters work to get Max out of a storm drain

Natalie and Max Forrester were at home when there was a fire in their building. They were evacuated, but Natalie collapsed while they waited outside to be allowed back in, so Dean and Andy took Max and Natalie to the hospital. At the hospital, Maggie discovered extensive damage to Natalie's heart, likely due to a heart attack that was never treated. Maggie placed an LVAD to try to take some pressure off her heart, but she warned Natalie's husband, Evan, that it was unlikely Natalie would ever wake up. Evan refused to tell Max that his mother was dying. Andrew, trying to help Max cope, took Max to the roof and explained to him that sometimes people don't know how to tell other people bad news. Max thought his mother was already dead and left the hospital on his own.

While fleeing from people searching from him, Max fell into an open maintenance hole and was swept away into the sewer. Maggie and Andrew joined the search and rescue efforts and they followed Max's trail to another access point. As they were setting up to have Maya go down after him, Andy jumped in impulsively, but couldn't get a hold on Max, so he was swept away. This left them with one final chance, but the access point was too small for an adult to go down, so they had to lower a loop for Max to grab and wrap around himself. Max refused to trust his father as he knew his father had lied to him. Desperate, Evan got on the radio and told Max that his mom was dying and apologized for not telling him sooner. Max finally grabbed the loop and was lifted to safety. He and his father then went to the hospital to say goodbye to his mother.

Ripley Goes Down, Spring 2019[]

15x23-11

Lucas Ripley is hospitalized after a fire

A coffee processing plant in Seattle caught on fire. During the attempt to put out the fire, Captain Ted Conlin became trapped and gave an order that no one was to come in and rescue him. Fire Chief Lucas Ripley superseded his command and went in after him. He successfully rescued Conlin, but later passed out on the street outside a flower shop and was taken to the hospital. When he woke up, he insisted he needed to leave and go find Vic, who wasn't returning his phone calls after he failed to show up to meet her. Finally, while he was left unsupervised, he left without being discharged. Soon afterward, his test results came back, showing he'd been exposed to hydrofluoric acid. They attempted treatment, but it was ineffective and Vic came to the hospital and lay in bed with him while he died.

Bar Crash, Winter 2019/2020[]

S193x01-7

A car has crashed into Joe's

Ben and Captain Herrera, along with several doctors from the hospital, were at Emerald City Bar when a car drove through the front window. While they waited for station 19 to arrive, the injured doctors inside began treating the injuries. When station 19 arrived, they learned that Joan had driven into the building because her husband had had a heart attack in the car and she swerved to avoid a pedestrian while driving him to the hospital. They worked to stabilize the car to keep it from falling father into the bar. They also worked to get in through the back of the car to access Joan and her husband, Don. Inside the bar, they were unable to evacuate as the back entrance was blocked by a large vehicle, which couldn't be moved even with additional firefighters helping. When Don stopped breathing, Ben talked Joan through chest compressions and then used a LikePak to restore sinus rhythm. They then pulled him out through the back of the car. When Travis went back in to get Joan, the car shifted, causing Joan to stab herself in the neck with a pair of scissors. Despite their best efforts, she died. Once the back exit was cleared, the injured were evacuated out that way and were taken to the hospital for treatment. Blake Simms had surgery on his face, Casey was taken to the nueroICU with a brain injury that exacerbated his PTSD, Taryn had surgery to place an IVC filter and put a fixator on her broken leg. Hannah had only minor injures and was cleared to return to work to help treat others, and Levi developed Takotsubo cardiomyopathy. They were all treated successfully, except Casey, who had to be transferred to neural rehab for continued treatment.

Bear Attack, February 2020[]

S193x05-46

A couple has been attacked by a bear

Rachel and Scott Burke were camping when they were attacked by a bear. Rachel had a severed artery in her arm and Scott's face was mangled and his nose was completely removed. They were unable to locate the nose immediately, so they packed his face and put a tourniquet on Rachel's arm, then carried them out of the woods on improvised stretchers. The nose was later located and taken to the hospital in a bag of saline.

At the hospital, Scott had surgery on his face. They were unable to re-attach his nose to his face immediately, so it was attached to his arm to maintain blood flow. He later coded in his room and was unable to be resuscitated. Rachel had surgery on her arm and was stable afterward, but was told she'd need some physical therapy for her arm.

Kyle Rexton, March 2020[]

S193x09-24

Kyle Rexton has a mental health crisis

Kyle Rexton held the owner of a military surplus story, Jimmy, hostage in the store with a knife. The situation escalated until Kyle grabbed a grenade and pulled the pin. Sullivan then came in and shared his own military experience to get Kyle to walk out with him. The grenade was neutralized and Kyle was arrested. Kyle was then taken to the ER because he had chest pain. He also explained that he had headaches and back pain. He'd been taking an SSRI for his PTSD, but had to stop because he couldn't afford it. When Teddy witnessed him becoming unresponsive in the ER, she paged neurosurgery, which diagnosed gliosis in his frontal lobe, which was causing him to have seizures. He had surgery, which resolved his symptoms.

Partying Teens, November 2020[]

17x01-13

Kayden's parents come to the hospital to see him

Desperate to have some fun despite the lockdown, a group of teens, including Kayden Lee and Frankie Morris, attended a party together. As they left the party, their car broke down. Billie thought it had overheated and got burned while attempting to remove the radiator cap. Vic treated their burn and then told the kids to wait for a tow truck. They were called back not long afterward for a fire. Kayden had tried to fix the car and got seriously burned when it blew up. The fire spread to surrounding foliage and the other teens had run off into the woods. They were able to find all three other teens and get them to safety. Frankie was the last one rescued and Conor said he had other health issues. When he was rescued, he had a branch impaling his abdomen.

At the hospital, Kayden's burns were debrided and treated with burn cream. He was expected to make a full recovery. Frankie, meanwhile, had recently had a kidney transplant. Due to the branch impaling the area, they had to remove a portion of the kidney, but the remainder was functioning properly.

Trafficked Teens and Andrew's Death, December 2020-March 2021[]

17x07-36

Andrew is in the hospital after being stabbed.

While celebrating successfully putting out a three-alarm fire, Travis, Dean, and Vic heard a woman calling for help. They found Joyce Williams outside a nearby house saying her daughter, Jada Williams, had been kidnapped and was inside the house along with her friend, Shanice. They went to the door of the house, but the man inside, Bob, denied everything and told them to stay away. Desperate to save the girls, Dean wanted to pretend he smelled gas to get inside, but Maya stopped him and called the police for help instead. Police arrived, but not because Maya had called, but because Bob had complained about Joyce. Dean again pretended to smell gas, but before they could enter, they heard glass breaking and observed a fire in the basement. Dean and Sullivan decided not to wait for backup and went in without gear. They found Jada and Shanice trapped in the basement and carried them out to safety. Once they were out, there was an altercation with police during which Joyce, Dean, and Sullivan were all wrongfully arrested.

At the hospital, Shanice and Jada were treated for smoke inhalation and Jada for burns. Bob was also treated for smoke inhalation, burns, and an ischemic stroke. Opal, who was working with Bob in human trafficking, came to the hospital to check on Bob and make sure he wasn't talking to police when Andrew DeLuca spotted her. He and Carina DeLuca got in Carina's car and followed her.

They followed Opal to a train station and then onto a train, where she finally spotted them. They followed her off the train. Andrew sent Carina to find Ben and call the police while he continued to follow Opal. When Carina returned, she found that Andrew had been stabbed. As Opal was arrested outside, they applied pressure to Andrew's wounds and took him to the hospital.

At the hospital, Andrew had surgery. Afterward, he was stable and awake in his room, but then he developed cardiac tamponade. Owen opened his chest bedside and then moved him back to the OR, where he went into DIC. Despite their best efforts, he died in the OR after 40 minutes of CPR.

Newlywed Crash, April 2021[]

17x11-21

Shayne is taken to the hospital after being extracted.

Karissa and Shayne were newlyweds who had just been tested for COVID. On their way back home, they were in a car accident when the truck in front of them stopped abruptly, causing them to drive up the ramp and into the back of it. While the firefighters were working to extract them, Karissa started to panic and insisted they rescue her first, despite Shayne being more seriously injured, because she had loved ones who depended on her while Shayne had no one. She immediately apologized, but Shayne refused to speak to her as they were rescued, first Shayne and then Karissa, then taken to the hospital.

At the hospital, Shayne had surgery to treat his pelvic fracture and a hernia. He was told he would need some rehab, but would recover. Karissa had much more minor injuries and was told she'd just need to stay overnight for observation. Due to her comments as they were being rescued, Shayne asked for an annulment, saying the accident had provided clarity.

Phoenix Fair, September 2021[]

Brad, Tara, Mac, Will, and Bella attended the Phoenix Festival, wanting to celebrate the end of the pandemic and the revitalization of the city of Seattle. They celebrated by setting off fireworks in the park and using mushrooms. When a firework exploded in Brad's face, he was seriously injured. He also knocked Tara over, injuring her ankle. The firefighters applied pressure to his wounds and then had to get him onto a gurney and walk him to the hospital as Will had attempted to drive the engine and left it tipped on its side blocking the road. Tara followed behind with Theo's support.

At the hospital, Brad was taken into surgery to repair the damage to his face. Tara was told he'd need more surgeries going forward, but would be okay.

PRT [Transplant] Surgery, October 2021[]

GA18x03PRTSurgery

Ben and his PRT making Rashida's transplant surgery possible.

Due to an unprecedented heatwave affecting Seattle, the HVAC system at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital fails which triggered a protocol to redirect/relocate critical patients and shut down OR's as the hospital is no longer able to regulate temperature and other key systems. This affected Rashida's kidney transplant surgery as the donor kidney would be redirected to another patient as no OR's would be available for Owen and Winston to operate. To avoid this, Owen enlisted the help of Ben and his PRT rig as the latter's now-mothballed program allows for surgery to be performed in the field. With Owen declaring the space between the ER's ambulance bay entrance and the Denny Duquette Memorial Clinic a "Grey Sloan Annex", and having Ben rationalized the use of the rig considering Grey Sloan funded the PRT, Rashida's transplant surgery moved forward, on the condition that neither SFD's fire chief nor GSM's chief of surgery would have official knowledge of the procedure taking place in the PRT rig. During the surgery, Owen commented how it was like "old times" as Ben served as Rashdia's anesthesiologist while he performed the transplant surgery with Winston assisting. After the surgery, the labs and urine output confirmed the transplant was successful.

Explosion, November 2021[]

18x05-48

Miranda comforting Pru Miller after Dean's death.

After both stations 19 and 23 were called out to attend to a gas main explosion, Vic was electrocuted by a severed power line while on the ladder. Dean quickly retrieved her and dropped her off at the triage tent managed by Ben and Travis. She soon stabilized and was carried to nearby aid car stuck in traffic due to the explosion. Dean returned to the site to assist the team with more evacuations and discovered that gas was building up in nearby houses. Unfortunately, Captain Pat Aquino had already opened a door, causing a second explosion, injuring several firefighters, including Aquino and Dean. Jack immediately found Dean, and he and Ben rushed Dean to another aid car bound for Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. Pat was also transported to Grey Sloan. Unable to stabilize Dean despite extraordinary efforts from Ben and Jack, Dean died en route. Ben and Jack arrived at GSM's ambulance bay with no sirens which worried Miranda who thought the deceased firefighter might be Ben. Relieved to find Ben exit the aid car, she was saddened that Dean had died. Also treated at the scene was Aaliyah, who was pregnant. As the scene was near the station, Travis called Carina to come to the scene to treat her. Carina then went to Grey Sloan with Aaliyah so she could receive further treatment.

Because of his promise to Dean about taking in Pru should Dean die, Ben spoke to Miranda about honoring that promise, much to Miranda's hesitance. She was worried that taking in Pru would mean having her heartbroken when Pru's grandparents would come to take Pru away from her. Andy then retrieved Pru from day care and Miranda couldn't help but embrace Dean's daughter.

Cliffside Rescue, December 2021-February 2022[]

S195x09-9

Andy takes charge of the scene and initiates rescue.

While retrieving a heart for Farouk Shami Hunt, Owen, Teddy, and Cormac were involved in a car accident after their driver had a stroke and veered off the road. When the car stopped, Teddy was able to exit the car with the heart, leaving Cormac and Owen trapped, hanging precariously. Owen then encouraged Cormac to jump out of the car as well, even knowing it would likely lead to an additional fall as the weight distribution changed. Cormac finally agreed, jumping free from the car just as it slid farther down the hill. Cormac then walked up to the road, where Teddy had flagged down a car.

Stations 23 and 19 were both called to respond to the accident. As Teddy had called Ben, they knew that Owen was the passenger in the car. While Andy started forming a plan to find the car safely and send down the supplies necessary to extract Owen, Ben impulsively rappelled down the hill, followed by Sullivan. Ben located the driver, who was dead, and then found the car. Owen was able to respond to his calls, meaning he was alive inside. They checked for fuel leaks and found none, but Ben refused to help Sullivan disconnect the battery, wanting to check on Owen first. Owen reported injuries to his back and his leg, where he could feel the bone in his open wound. Just then, the first wave of recusers, Maya, Theo, and Travis, arrived with some supplies. They called for tow straps to secure the vehicle and Maya disconnected the battery while Travis ensured that the engine was off. Ben had Owen start his own IV, as Ben was unable to reach him inside the car. They removed a branch that had gone through the car and then cut the roof off. While they were doing this, Owen started to panic, so Sullivan distracted him by talking about getting shot while he was in the military. With the roof off, they worked to free Owen's trapped leg. Once he was freed, they put him on a stretcher and loaded him into the stokes basket. Then, over the others' objections, Ben hooked himself to the rigging and rode up with Owen while the others climbed back up the hill. At the top, Andy and Beckett both chastised Ben, telling him he wouldn't be riding to the hospital with Owen. Instead, Maya and Sullivan loaded Owen into the aid car, where they started treating his pain as they rode to the hospital. To distract him, Sullivan kept talking to Owen about his military experience.

At the hospital, Owen reported that he could feel his legs and was also able to move them, despite multiple breaks. Amelia was pleased that he had some mobility, but worried that his back injury could paralyze him. They did a pan scan, which showed an L1 burst fracture in addition to the open femur fracture, tibial plateau fracture, and a splenic laceration. They took him into surgery, where they positioned him so they could operate on his back and leg simultaneously. After surgery, they expected him to make a full recovery and he woke up in his room.

Lightning Storm and Helicopter Crash, November 2022-February 2023[]

19x06-11

Ben and Theo arrive at Grey Sloan Memorial with Jonathan Bright.

A lightning storm spread through Seattle. This storm forced Vic's fire camp indoors. During the camp, Enzo Lim came to the station with his wife and children, who had been struck by lightning. The storm also caused Jonathan Bright's helicopter to crash. Station 19 responded to the helicopter crash and were able to get Jonathan and his producer out, while the pilot died of his injuries.

A lightning strike also set Meredith's House on fire and Station 19 responded to that. They were able to put out the fire, though the house had significant damage to the roof. To thank the team, Meredith and her kids brought cookies to the station.

Maya's Accident, November 2022-February 2023[]

S196x07-24

Maya is hospitalized after falling.

Maya exercised beyond the limit of her body and fell on the treadmill, hiding her head on the gym floor. Jack found her and took her to the hospital, where Benson Kwan and Teddy Altman treated Maya for dehydration and rhabdomyolysis. Despite her serious condition, Maya was insistent that she was fine and wanted to be discharged. Concerned that if she left the hospital, she would try to keep exercising, which could kill her, Carina and Teddy decided to admit her involuntarily for 72 hours to receive emergent psychiatric care.

Clinic Attack, March 2023[]

19x11-6

The doctors welcome their students to the clinic.

Bailey, Addison, Carina, and Jo were leading a training for doctors from around the country whose programs refused to educate them in abortion care. When protestors learned that Addison was there, they swarmed the building, attempting to disrupt the process. This came to a head when one of the protesters threw a brick through the window, injuring Benson Kwan. They locked the clinic down until PD was able to disperse the crowd. When they were finally able to leave, a protestor drove their car down the road behind the clinic, injuring Tia Marwood and Addison Forbes Montgomery.

Maya and the rest of station 19 were on a call when they learned that someone had hit some doctors outside the clinic at Grey Sloan. Maya was immediately worried because Carina was at work, though she was unable to leave. Once they finished their work, Maya tried to call Carina repeatedly, but got no answer. She asked Ross to let her out of the truck so she could run to Grey Sloan, knowing she'd get there faster on foot. At the same time, Ben was at the station and decided to do the same after Bailey didn't answer her phone.

Ben and Maya arrived at the hospital, but security stopped them at the door because the hospital was on lockdown. Teddy saw them and told security to let them in. She told both of them that their wives were unharmed. They ran to Bailey's OR gallery to confirm that she was okay, then to the hospital daycare, to verify that Pru was safe. While Ben stayed there, Maya left to find Carina. She found Carina outside a patient room. Once she'd confirmed that Carina was safe, she waited outside the room while Carina worked.
