- On June 7, 2007, it was announced that Isaiah Washington was released from his contract. This was reportedly due to the controversy of Washington using a homophobic slur towards cast mate T.R. Knight during an off-camera argument and physical altercation with Patrick Dempsey.[1]
- In March 2014, it was confirmed that Burke would be returning to guest-star in a May episode of Season 10. Shonda Rhimes quoted the reason as following: "It's important to me that Cristina's journey unfolds exactly as it should. Burke is vital to that journey – he gives her story that full circle moment we need to properly say goodbye to our beloved Cristina Yang."
