Jason had always wanted to be a father. While he was interviewing surrogates to go through the process on his own, he met Nico Kim. Nico was initially scared off by Jason's pursuit of fatherhood, but found that he was more scared not to be with Jason, so they stayed together and were expecting a son via surrogacy. They went to the hospital with her when she was getting a checkup, where Jason met Nico's ex-boyfriend, Levi Schmitt, though he was unaware of who he was.
