Joanne came to the hospital with her wife, Ellie, who had ringing in her ears casted by a fluid buildup under her skull. She needed surgery to place a shunt to drain the fluid. Joanne was worried about a resident doing the surgery, but Derek told her that they have to let the residents operate because that's how they make new surgeons.
Ellie had the surgery. There was a complication, but she was stable after surgery and she was talking to Joanne when she woke up. The ringing had stopped. Joanne admitted that she was wrong and kissed Jackson.
