Jonathan Bright is a news reporter who was in a helicopter crash.

History[]

During the lightning storm, Jonathan's producer, Isabel, encouraged him to go out to report on it, despite the danger of being in the storm in a helicopter. While he was reporting, the helicopter they were in was struck by lightning, causing it to crash despite the efforts of the pilot, Omar. The impact caused part of the helicopter seat to be impaled through Jonathan's leg, trapping him in there along with Isabel. When firefighters arrived, they were able to remove the door and extract Isabel, but due to his injuries, they decided they would need to remove the seat with Jonathan and take the entire thing to the hospital to avoid paralyzing him.

While the firefighters worked to extract him, Jonathan told them he'd wanted to be a war correspondent, but gave that up because of his wife. It led to him resenting her to the point where when he overheard them talking about the possibility of him being paralyzed, he was excited because she would be forced to take care of him for the rest of his life. This led to him being overwhelmed by his feelings of love for her and made him commit to being in the relationship like he wasn't before. The firefighters were able to get the seat freed and moved him onto the gurney with the seat. Then they loaded him into the aid car and took him to the hospital. ("Everybody Says Don't")

At the hospital, they moved him into a trauma room, where they got x-rays and started talking about how to get him off the chair. Before they could do that, his wife came in and Jonathan apologized to her for how he'd treated her and promised to do better. When they moved him off the chair, he lost his airway, so they intubated and took him for CT, and then into surgery. After his surgery, his wife was told he'd have a long recovery, but he'd make it. ("Thunderstruck")
