José Ortega is Theo's fourth grade teacher.
History[]
Inspection[]
José was at Silva & Sons Barbershop when Theo Ruiz and Victoria Hughes came in to do an inspection. He was happy to see Theo, whom he had had as a student. When they started talking about possible explanations for the recent increase in fires in the neighborhood, Mr. Ortega said it was probably the unhoused population looking to stay warm. ("Come As You Are")
Fire[]
José was at the barbershop again when a fire started there. He had gone to the back of the shop because he didn't enjoy the music that was playing, so when the others evacuated, he remained inside. Sean Beckett came in to rescue him, but they both ended up trapped, so Beckett put his mask and jacket on José, then lay down beside him. Soon after, firefighters breeched the back door and entered. José was evacuated and then taken to the hospital. ("Could I Leave You?")
Career[]
He is an elementary school teacher. He and his wife used to own and operate a laundromat until it got too difficult to maintain. ("Come As You Are")
