Katherine Bishop is the mother of Maya Bishop.
History[]
Maya's Racing[]
Katherine's husband, Lane, openly preferred their daughter to their son. When Lane started ignoring Maya after she got second place in a race, Katherine just sat by and watched, even after he took a dish of mashed potatoes away from Maya and threw it at the wall after openly insulting both their children. ("Into the Woods")
Visiting Maya[]
A few months after Maya made captain, Katherine came to visit her, saying she felt it was time to visit her daughter's workplace. She then revealed that she'd left Lane and apologized to Maya for not protecting her from the abuse. Maya said she loved her dad and didn't believe he was abusive. She told her mother she was just being dramatic. When the team was called out, Maya left, but Katherine stayed at the station. Hearing Ben and Sullivan fight made her nervous, so she kept busy by helping set up the tables for that night's spaghetti dinner. When Maya returned, she was upset with her mother for coming into her workplace and taking over. She re-iterated that her father was the reason she won a gold medal and said that Katherine needed therapy, but she didn't think she did. ("The Ghosts That Haunt Me")
COVID-19 Pandemic[]
During the COVID-19 Pandemic, Katherine moved back in with Lane. ("Comfortably Numb")
Maya and Carina's Wedding[]
On the day of her wedding, Maya went to her parents' house, where she officially came out to them for the first time ever and told them she was marrying a woman she loved. She also told her mother that she deserved better than to be cowering in the hallway behind her husband. She said Carina offered to have Katherine come live with them, something Maya herself wanted, and said that if she decided she'd had enough, she knew where they lived and there would always be a bed there for her. When Lane tried to object, Maya silenced him. Katherine later attended the wedding without Lane. ("Forever and Ever, Amen")
At the wedding, Maya and her team found out that Maya had been fired as Captain. She, Carina, and Andy went to Fire Chief McCallister's office in an attempt to convince him to reverse his decision, yet to no avail. A disappointed Maya returned to the party and informed the guests of what had happened. She decided not to let it ruin the fun and turned the music back on to dance, with Katherine being one of the first guests to join in. ("Phoenix from the Flame")
