Kavita Mohanty is a plastic surgery fellow at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.
History[]
Kavita missed the first day of her fellowship. When she arrived on her actual first day, she met Benson Kwan, who mistook her for an intern and tried to send her to the intern locker room, then told her her resident would thank him for correcting what he saw as her mistakes. When he asked for the name of her resident, she was shocked to learn that she was actually a fellow and he was on her service. Benson went with Kavita to examine Ray Lee and he overcompensated for his mistake by complimenting her to Ray.
Later, when Ray needed surgery, Benson had to admit Ray had eaten because Benson had lifted his NPO order prematurely. Kavita had him check with anesthesiology to see what they were comfortable with so Ray could have surgery as soon as possible. Since his surgery was scheduled for that evening at 9:30, Kavita had to cancel her date and have dinner at the hospital instead. ("Between Two Lungs")
When Kavita learned that Jackson was going to be in town for a surgery, she hoped it would be the opportunity she needed to impress him, as she'd applied for an attending position at his hospital following her fellowship. However, when Jackson was asking questions of the crowd that had gathered, he sent Kavita to assist another surgeon. When she came into the OR during Jackson's surgery to see if he needed any helped, Benson faked sudden illness in order to leave and allow Kavita to step in. Kavita found Benson in the skills label later that day and thanked him and gave him a tip to improve his microsutures. ("Goodbye Horses")
Kavita had a patient who needed a TRAM flap. Lucas asked to scrub in and she said no. Then Benson asked and reminded her how he'd helped her get face time with Jackson. She agreed to let him scrub in if he could place a wound vac on Frank Nelson, who had an ulcer near his anus. Benson failed, but Lucas succeeded, so Kavita invited him to scrub in. He asked if Dani Spencer could scrub in as well as she had helped and Kavita okayed it. Later, Kavita saw Benson in an elevator and he said it was okay that he hadn't gotten her surgery because it had allowed to take another opportunity, but said he always found a way to get what he wanted. When she asked if the surgery was all he wanted, he stopped the elevator and kissed her. ("When I Crash")
Graham Clayton came in with severe burns after a plane crash. Kavita insisted on placing his subclavian line herself because of his burns. Then she talked Wes through cutting into his burned leg to allow the tissue under the burn to expand. When Owen saw the tension in his thigh and diagnosed compartment syndrome, Kavita agreed with his assessment. Unfortunately, Graham coded soon afterward and was unable to be resuscitated. That evening, as she left work, she ran into Benson, who had sent her flowers. He tried to claim they'd gone to the wrong person, but when she tried to give them back, he told her to keep them. Then they left the hospital together. ("Skyfall")
