“ | Since the early 1900s, morbidity and mortality conferences, or M&Ms, have helped surgeons learn from cases where there was a serious complication or a fatal outcome. During M&Ms, we assess both systematic and personal errors. We review every step, every decision. We get to the bottom of what happened and how it happened. We consider what we could have done better or differently. And hope we never make the same mistake ever again. It's been said that a house divided against itself cannot stand. But conflict on the road to progress is inevitable. And at least some division is always a certainty. Because we all want what we think is best for everyone. And when we can trust at least that much to be true, it's simply not realistic for any house to avoid some division. But how much division can any house withstand before it finally falls? | ” |

She'd had the same symptoms before and shots of cortisone helped relieve her pain, so Link ordered a workup on her knee with the intent of giving her another shot. After examining her, Zander told Link he thought she needed an MRI, but Link went back to Lila and told her if the cortisone shots weren't enough, she could try losing weight as a more permanent solution. This offended her, as she said she was very physically active and had been dieting since 1992, and she got up to leave. As she walked away, Link notice she had a foot drop, which Zander had already noted, and called her back. He authorized an MRI, which showed spinal disc herniation. They removed the herniated disc.

The pain was worse during sex and while menstruating, so Amelia called for a GYN consult. She told Carina and Jo that she'd always had severe pain during her period. After an exam, she was tentatively diagnosed with endometriosis and Carina scheduled diagnostic surgery for the same day, as she was ready to be free of the pain. In surgery, they found several lesions, so they did a biopsy. After her surgery, they put her on continuous birth control to manage her symptoms.
