Lynn spent two days in labor before her water finally broke. She was committed to unmedicated childbirth, so she used several techniques to try to progress her labor.
Because her labor wasn't progressing, Dell called in Addison. Addison said she could give Lynn pitocin and pain medication, but Lynn said she had a birth plan and didn't want that. She maintained that as long as the baby was okay, she wanted to give birth unmedicated. She'd try any natural remedies to progress labor, but no drugs. Everything up to that point had been out of her hands, so she wanted something to go according to plan.
She continued to labor and admitted she wanted it to be beautiful because she read that the way a baby comes into the world shapes their whole life. She wanted her baby to have a good life. Dell said even if she took something for pain, she'd have many opportunities to give her kid a good life.
By the time Lynn got to the time to push, she was exhausted and asked for pain medications. Dell said it was too late for that. He coached her through it, saying they were almost done. She stuck to her plan, which not everyone can do. They'd get through the rest of it together.
Lynn's baby was born and she held him.
