Maria-Flor Vasconcellos is the mother of Malan Vasconcellos.
History[]
Maria-Flor noticed her daughter, Malan, wasn't acting like herself, so she took her to the hospital. Malan had had five shunts placed since birth for congenital hydrocephalus. Concerned that the shunts kept failing, Maria-Flor said she didn't want Malan to have another surgery just to have the shunt fail again. They ran the tests and confirmed that her shunt wasn't working. Amelia Shepherd wanted to replace it with another shunt, but Monica Beltran suggested an endoscopic ventriculostomy instead. Malan's history made that risky, but Amelia found a way to use computer guidance to take the safest route through Malan's brain to create a space for the fluid to drain without placing another shunt. Malan's surgery went well and Maria-Flor was told she'd make a full recovery.
