Miriam Alba is a medical researcher whose lab was bombed by extremists.
History[]
Miriam was working on a cure for lymphoma in her lab when there was an explosion. The building was being evacuated, but she refused to leave without taking her research along with her. She instructed her lab assistants, Monica and Brant, and later the firefighters, to help remove the test subjects and research from the lab. While they were moving things, there was another explosion, which trapped Miriam under a shelf and trapped them in the room. They were able to free her, but she had severe crush injuries, including a broken pelvis and arm. She called her partner and read off data over the phone so her partner could document it. While they were treating her, Dean discovered a bomb in the lab. Miriam said she'd been targeted by anti-choice extremists before because she used embryonic stem cells in her research. When they realized the bomb was going to go off in eleven minutes, she pleaded with the firefighters to leave her, as she knew she was going to die, and get her research out of the building. As time ticked down, Miriam had the idea to use the autoclave to dampen the explosion, since they couldn't prevent it. While they determined that they couldn't move the autoclave and instead had to move the bomb, Travis discovered that Miriam had died of her injuries.
When they were freed, the firefighters of station 19 carefully carried her research mice out of the building.
Career[]
She was a research scientist at Pacific Northwest General Hospital until her death. Her research focused on a cure for lymphoma.
