Nari Montgomery is the mother of Travis Montgomery.

History[]

Travis's Wedding[]

In 2012, Nari's son, Travis, became engaged to Michael. Nari and her husband were not pleased by this, as they were ashamed that their son was gay. His father wanted them to elope, believing a public wedding was putting them too much on display, but Travis disagreed. Nari agreed to read a poem she'd written at the wedding, but on the day of the wedding, neither she nor her husband showed up. She read the poem to them privately, but Travis said it wasn't enough and it was too late.

Blizzard[]

Years later, when there was a blizzard in Seattle, Nari called Travis at work and told him to eat some soup to stay warm. He quickly ended the call to deal with other problems at the station, but when she called back the next morning, he told her he could use some of that soup. ("Ice Ice Baby")

Covid-19[]

During the covid-19 pandemic, Travis delivered groceries and supplies to her house. ("Nothing Seems the Same")

Despite these deliveries, Nari decided to go to the grocery store, telling Travis that if Paul could golf, she could go shopping. She was unaware that he wasn't actually golfing, but meeting up with men for sex. She offered to box up some spicy tofu for him if he wanted to come get some. He later decided to do this. ("Don't Look Back in Anger")

After Paul told her his golfing buddy's wife had tested positive, Nari went with him to the drive-thru testing at the station. When Travis saw them, he had them park and come inside. After getting his mother settled in, he privately questioned his father about his real exposure, knowing it hadn't happened while golfing. Travis then tested both of his parents and sent them home. ("Save Yourself")

As she was leaving the grocery store one day, a maskless woman blamed her for the pandemic and spat on her. Nari then went out to her car and frantically cleaned herself with a wipe, then cried. ("Get Up, Stand Up")

Thanksgiving[]

Nari and Paul came to station 19 on Thanksgiving to share their Thanksgiving meal. As they shared what they were thankful for while setting up the tables, Travis pushed Paul until he finally came out to Nari and confessed his affair. Nari left the room after hearing his confession.

When Travis followed her, she said she wished Travis hadn't pushed Paul because she enjoyed their life as it was. She then went to the kitchen where she insisted Jack let her help cook. While they were cooking, Nari smelled smoke and discovered that the turkey was on fire in the oven as someone had set the oven to clean instead of bake. Travis had to use the jaws of life to open the oven to Maya could put out the fire. Luckily, Station 23 brought over a whole meal including a turkey. ("Little Girl Blue")

Moving Out and Talking to Travis[]

In light of Paul's actions, Nari decided to move out of their shared home. She told him over breakfast, though she admitted he didn't seem to believe she was serious, and began packing her things while he was gone. Travis came over while she was packing and they ended up talking about Nari's decision to side with her husband instead of defending Travis against him when he was a child. Nari ultimately apologized and admitted she was wrong for allowing Paul to treat Travis the way he had. ("A House Is Not a Home")

Relationships[]

Romantic[]

She has been married to Paul Montgomery for 37 years. When she learned he was gay and had been having an affair with another man, she packed her things and moved out. ("A House Is Not a Home")

Familial[]

She was ashamed that her son was gay. She ended up refusing to attend his wedding when he got married, but privately celebrated with him and Michael.

She is from Seoul, but her father was a diplomat, so she lived in many places. ("In My Tree")
