Nathan Pilsman is a man who met Violet whose wife had recently died.
History[]
Nathan overheard Violet talking to Marsha and mistakenly believed her baby had died. He said he was sorry for her loss and explained that his wife had died that day. Violet tried to correct him, but before she could, he continued talking. She asked if she could help him, but he said he was just waiting for his friend to pick him up.
Violet returned later to find that Nathan was still in the waiting room. He admitted that he just wasn't ready to leave. He didn't want to leave without his wife, but he couldn't leave with her, so he was just staying there. Violet asked to sit down with him. He asked her about losing her child and she said walking out the door was the hardest thing she ever did.
The two of them watched other people in the hospital and made up stories about what had happened to them. Nathan said that one women had dead kid face, like Violet herself. She asked him about it and he said her eyes seemed empty. He asked her if he looked different. She said he looked like he was in shock, like something bad happened.
Violet said she thought it was time for Nathan to leave. He said he felt alone, but Violet said she'd be with him.
Outside his house, they sat on the porch and talked. She then suggested they try going outside. As he went to unlock the door, he said they thought she had a cold. Three years ago, they were supposed to go on a vacation, but they thought she had a cold, but it never went away. She had cancer. He knew the end was coming, so he slept in the hospital with her for months. The house was the last time they were happy together. He opened the door and walked in. He admitted to Violet that he thought it would kill him by making her more gone, but he felt her in the house. He thanked Violet and she started crying and admitted that her son hadn't died, that she had given him up. He held her while she cried.
