Season 5[]

  • Removal of Parasitic Cysts (Before and After): Addison brings Archer to Seattle Grace Hospital after he has a seizure which does not resolve itself, therefore being unable to make his own decision. Archer has neurocysticercosis - parasites in his brain. Derek initially believes the surgery to be impossible, even consulting with surgeons at Mayo Clinic and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, though after a pep-talk from Sam, he believes he is able to do so.

  • Removal of the "perfect tumor" (Give Peace a Chance): Derek Shepherd removed a large and highly vascularized tumor from the spine of Isaac, a lab tech at Seattle Grace Mercy West. The operation took thirty hours and took a physical toll on both Derek and his resident, Jackson Avery.

Season 11[]

  • Removal of Dr. Nicole Herman's inoperable tumor (The Distance): Throughout season 11, Amelia Shepherd worked with Dr. Nicole Herman, the head of Fetal Surgery at Grey-Sloan Memorial Hospital,  to remove her once-declared inoperable tumor (a grade VI astrocytoma). The surgery took over 17 hours, and was a success, but at the result of leaving Nicole blind.
