History[]
Nola came to the hospital with her best friend, Viv. Nola had a large thymoma that was taking over her heart and every doctor they'd seen had declared it unresectable, so Viv brought Nola to Seattle in the hopes that Maggie Pierce, whom they'd read about, could remove it. At the hospital, Viv repeatedly paged Maggie as Simone and Jules threatened to call security. When Maggie arrived, she agreed to see Nola. While they were running tests, Nola crashed due to cardiac tamponade, which was resolved in her hospital room. Maggie then looked at her scans and decided she and Winston could remove the tumor and use a bovine pericardial patch to reconstruct her heart, which they did successfully. ("Shadow of Your Love")
The next morning, Nola woke up and struggled to speak, then coded due to a blood clot around her jugular incision. Winston opened her incision bedside and removed the clot, then they packed the wound and moved her to the OR where they repaired the venectomy before returning her to the ICU. ("Mama Who Bore Me")
