Rafael is a child who was treated at the clinic after being cut on razor wire crossing the Mexico-US border.
History[]
Rafael came into the clinic with his father, Luis. They and many other migrants had been bussed from Texas to Seattle to make a political point. Rafael had been cut on razor wire crossing the Rio Grande and the cuts had becoming infected. Ben gave him antibiotics and fluids and irrigated the wound. Then he said Rafael would need to go to the hospital and the wound had to stay open to heal properly. Luis admitted that it was his fault that Rafael had been cut so badly. He was so scared when they were crossing and so desperate to get to the other side that he didn't hear Rafael say he was cut and he pulled him, forcing the wire deeper into his skin.
