Reyna Reyes is a pregnant woman who was in danger of being deported.
History[]
Reyna came into the ER 35 weeks pregnant with nausea and vomiting. Addison examined her and Reyna said her baby needed to come. She admitted that she'd had a drink that she was told would induce labor. She drank so much, it became toxic to her, so they had to give her charcoal to absorb some of it. She said she'd done it because she was being deported back to El Salvador and wanted her baby to stay in the US.
Addison didn't want to induce labor because she was worried about a baby being born at 35 weeks. Pete, however, pointed out that if the baby went back to El Salvador, the quality of life would be much lower than what they could expect in the US.
Pete talked to Reyna about life in El Salvador. He'd spent a year down there setting up a clinic, but Reyna told him the doctors had left and it was just an empty building.
Addison told Reyna she needed to understand the risks of having the baby early, but Reyna told Addison she needed to understand the risks of having the baby back in El Salvador. She'd applied for asylum, but was denied and lost her appeal.
Immigration came to the hospital to take Reyna and deport her. Addison made the decision to induce labor and allow Reyna to labor and give birth. The baby was born and he was healthy. Reyna decided to hold him for as long as she could. Addison had Charlotte tell Immigration that Reyna wasn't able to be moved that day.
Addison talked to Reyna about her decision to leave her baby and said there had to be a better way. Pete offered to go back to El Salvador with her to help her while she applied to return to the US.
Reyna disappeared from her hospital bed. She had taken her son and run.
