Russell Porter is a patient who came in for a colonoscopy and learned he had lead poisoning.
History[]
Russell was in the hospital for a colonoscopy because he had unexplained weight loss and anemia along with a family history of colon cancer. His wife, Grace, also said he'd been experiencing some brain fog. Before he could go in for his colonoscopy, Russell became confused and was unable to recall his wife or where he was. They decided to order a CT, which showed that he had three bullets in his body from a shooting at a grocery store eleven years prior. He'd been told it was more dangerous to try to remove them, so the doctors had left them there. Owen explained that the bullets would normally have been surrounded by scar tissue, but that didn't happen and it allowed lead to leech from the bullets into his body, causing lead poisoning. They needed to remove the bullets in order to reverse all his symptoms. Russell was upset to learn that it would take a while and some of the symptoms might be permanent. He was taken into surgery, which went well. After the surgery, Russell was relieved and said he realized having the bullets inside him affected him more than he realized.
