Ruth was in the hospital to have her valve replaced due to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, but she had stomach pains overnight. She was revealed to have appendicitis and because of her COPD, she'd need an open appendectomy, so her valve replacement was pushed back. Despite her surgeons forgetting how to do an appendectomy partway through, her surgery was completed successfully.
