Sam Kenzie was the pediatrician and friend of Liz and Annie Cooper.

Liz and Annie's Childhood[]
Sam delivered Liz and Annie and was their pediatrician when they were children. When they would come to the doctor, it was a production, with everyone coming in to see Lizzie cry when Annie got a shot.
Liz and Annie's Separation[]
Sam understood their mother's decision not to separate them, but encouraged Liz and Annie to pursue separation when their health demanded it. Before they were taken in to surgery, Sam asked Meredith which twin was Twin A, so he could know which one to ask God to watch over a little better, knowing that if things went south, the doctors would focus all their energy on saving Twin A.

Dr. Kenzie, as their pediatrician, was close with Liz and Annie Cooper, as well as their mother. Even after they were adults and no longer his patients, he remained friends with them, even coming to the hospital to be with them when they were separated.
