Full Summary[]
The firefighters of stations 19 and 23 compete in the 10K in their turnouts. As they approach the finish line, Maya pulls to the front and wins the race. Everyone cools off and gets water.
Travis approaches Vic, who was watching from the sidelines, upset that she couldn't run. She asks if Theo is still subbing at 19 for her and Travis says he is.
Ross gives a little speech about the clinic, then hands the mic over to Ben, who announced their first community hours in two weeks.
Diane follows Ben into the bunker room and tells him he missed another mandatory session with her. He tells her he's in the middle of a huge custody battle and starting the clinic. If the purpose of the session is to reprimand him, she can consider him reprimanded. She reminds him that she's never reprimanded him. If he's interpreted it that way, they have a lot of work to do. She makes it clear to him that without an evaluation, she can't clear him. He can find her when he's ready to talk.
Vic goes to Carina and pulls her aside to talk. She tells Carina she's changed her mind and wants to have a surgical abortion instead of the pill, because she wants to be unconscious for it. Carina puts on her doctor voice and tells Vic it's strongly recommended that she wait until she's at least six weeks for a surgical abortion. If Carina does it before then, they run the risk of incompletion. Vic is horrified at the thought of waiting another week, because she already feels miserable. She just wants to be done. Carina says she can still do the pill, as early as tomorrow. Both options are safe. Vic thinks about it for a minute and then says she wants the surgical abortion. Carina says she'll make an appointment for a week from now.
Sullivan poses for pictures with community members. Ross breaks in and they pose for some pictures while flirting.
Andy thanks her team for coming out to do the race. She sends them home to hydrate and enjoy their day off. Maddox, Barnes, and Deja all agree they're hydrating with beer. She tells them to get water first. Theo comes to Andy and asks her to see if she can get Vic to hang out. He's worried about her. Andy promises to try.
Carina excitedly tells Maya it's Inventory Day. Even working with Jack can't dampen her joy. She also tells Maya the sperm bank called and they had an opening for Tuesday, so they can get in sooner. Maya doesn't look up from the binder she's studying, wanting to be up on all protocols in case Ross asks. The klaxons ring, so Maya has to leave, but confirms they're going to the sperm bank on Tuesday as proof she was listening.
On the way to the scene, Theo tells Travis he asked Andy to hang out with Vic, but Travis thinks it's a bit condescending. It wasn't when he did it because he's not Vic's boyfriend. Theo's not sure he is anymore either. They arrive at the scene.
Hattie greets them and tells Maya she was worried the dispatcher thought it was prank call. She was inside the house when she heard screaming, so she ran. She's fine, but she's not sure the others are. Travis and Maya recognize the house as the Hackett house. There are two other people inside. They were shooting a documentary on the Hackett house murders. Travis offers to be on medical group, but Beckett says he's going in. Sullivan suggests calling USAR to stabilize the house, but Beckett doesn't think that's necessary. Maya leads the team inside as Hattie tells them the house has very dark energy. Maya, Theo, and Sullivan joke about it, but Travis wants them to stop. When the door slams shut, he tells them they made the house angry.
Andy finds Vic on the street and invites her to come see her new place. Michelle is bringing over food later. Vic knows someone asked her to babysit, but Andy won't admit to it. Vic agrees after deciding that Andy has some gossip Vic would like to know.
As they approach the house, Travis worries there will be snakes inside. They get to the front door as it creeks open, despite a complete lack of breeze. Hattie says the house doesn't like visitors. They go inside as Hattie tells Maya her friends' names are Tobias and Cory.
Inside, they call out, but get no response. They split into two teams. Maya sends Travis and Theo upstairs while she and Sullivan stay downstairs.
Vic and Andy arrive at Dean's Houseboat. It's been sold and Vic wants to say goodbye. She pulls a spare key from its hiding spot and opens the door. Everything has been cleared out.
Jack thinks Carina has ordered too many suture kits, because she and Ben are the only ones who know how to do stitches. She says she's putting together a rotating staff of volunteer doctors and nurses from the hospital. Eventually, she'd like to pay them something's but for now, they can't. Jack says the whole point of the clinic was not to have doctors, but Carina doesn't see how they can have a clinic without them. Ben comes in and they try to get him to take a side, but he's in too many fights to join this one. Jack points out all the things he can do, all the things the firefighters are trained to do. They're interrupted by noise coming from down in the barn. They look down to see a couple walking in with their daughter.
Downstairs, Peggy Knox and Dayna Rutledge are worried that their daughter, Rose is hurt because she was shaken. Dayna's face and Peggy's hand are bleeding. Jack takes Rose, who appears uninjured, while Carina and Ben lead Dayna and Peggy to sit down. As soon as Peggy says her name, Carina recognizes them and says she delivered their baby. They remember her as well.
Travis looks at family photos hanging on the wall. The story goes that the mother was possessed and killed her husband and children before hanging herself. Theo says he actually read that it was just a bootlegger house. Travis feels slightly better. They continue calling our for Tobias and Cory. Theo startles Travis and they argue over the existence of ghosts. They hear someone calling for help, so Theo wants to go find who it was. They go inside a room, where there's a pulley at the top of a door. When Travis tries to open another door, the two of them fall through a trap door in the floor.
Travis and Theo call out to Sullivan and Maya for help. Theo tries to radio out, but there's no signal. Travis's ankle is twisted, but they're otherwise okay. Theo wonders how they'll get out when they don't even know how they got in. Travis says he made the ghost house made, so it ate them.
Ben tells Carina he wants to call it in, because it looks to him like Peggy hit Dayna and possibly also hurt Rose. Carina tells him to wait, treat their injuries, and talk to the women first, as she doesn't believe that's possible.
Maya and Sullivan call out for Tobias and Cory. The house is cold, even in their turnouts. Maya asks if Ross has said anything to Sullivan about her, but before he can answer, they hear a voice calling for help.
Theo and Travis search for any way out. Travis takes the time to circle back to Theo not being sure he's Vic's boyfriend anymore. Theo says Vic is pushing her away. Travis tells him to push back, but Theo doesn't think there's anything more he can do. When Travis pushes, Theo says he can't push himself into their relationship to avoid dealing with his own.
Maya and Sullivan find Tobias pinned under fallen debris. Maya radios out for a gurney and Sullivan says half the ceiling has collapsed. Maya holds Tobias hand as he says the house told him to get out before the ceiling fell on him. Maya stands up and lifts the debris off him.
Vic and Andy look around the empty house boat. They see a paper that shows that it sold for $2.6 million. Vic looks out over the water and then starts undressing. She's going for a swim. Andy tries to stop her, saying it's too cold. Now she understands why Theo asked her to babysit. Vic says if he's so worried, he could call her himself. Andy says he doesn't think she wants that. Vic exits the houseboat. She tells Andy she's pregnant and it's too early for a surgical abortion, but she doesn't want to use the pill. And she says she made out with Jack a few weeks ago. She told Theo about it, so they might be broken up, but she doesn't really know. Her brain is going non-stop and she needs some quiet. She jumps into the water over Andy's objections.
Vic lets herself sink. She starts floating in the water. When Andy jumps in beside her, she tries to get away, but Andy pulls her to the surface. Vic defends that she wasn't drowning because she's an excellent swimmer, but climbs out of the water.
Maya and Sullivan load Tobias onto the backboard. Tobias doesn't want to leave Cory behind, because Cory didn't even want to do this one, but Tobias made him. Maya radios Theo and Travis to say they have one more civilian in the house, but gets no response. A second call also gets no response.
Ben stitches Peggy's hand in the office. She's surprised they can do stitches there, but he tells her last week they couldn't. She got lucky. He starts to ask her about her marriage, if they fight a lot. She realizes what he thinks and explains what happened. He doesn't seem to believe her, so she runs out to the barn, where she tells Dayna to tell him that she isn't a wife-beater. Dayna almost laughs at the idea. She tells a story about what happened that matches Peggy's exactly, reassuring Ben. They're just a very accident-prone couple. Peggy says she'd happily take a lie-detector test and appreciates their concern, saying if her daughter walked in somewhere looking like Dayna, she'd want someone asking the same questions. Ben takes Peggy to wrap her stitches while Rose comes back with a firefighter bear Jack gave her. Jack questions Ben doing Peggy's stitches while he was supposed to be on desk duty.
Maya and Sullivan bring Tobias out of the house. Hattie sees him and asks where Cory is. Tobias suggests they check the cellar, saying there's a trap door. Sullivan asks Cutler if he's seen Travis or Theo. Cutler says he thought they were inside and hasn't seen them. Maya goes to Beckett and asks if he knows where they are. He calls on the radio, but also gets no response.
Travis tries to radio out again, but knows it's pointless. Travis says his relationship isn't messed up. Theo apologizes for saying it. They talk about his and Vic's relationship. Theo has tried over and over again and he's reaching his limit. And Theo says it's rich for him to say that when he has one foot out of his own relationship. He's seen Travis in love and he's not seeing that with Emmett. He says Travis needs to figure it out or cut Emmett loose. They're both startled when Cory falls through the roof next to them. Cory says the house hates them. He heard them calling out, but thought it was ghosts. He's worried they're going to die in the cellar.
Andy starts a fire in the wood-burning stove. Vic says she wants it to be over. Andy asks if Theo knows. Vic says he doesn't, but it wouldn't change her decision if they were happy and together. The only difference would be that she would have told him by now. Andy tells Vic that she had one senior year of high school. She and Ryan thought they were going to get married, so she almost kept it, but then she saw her career ending before it started and a lifetime of resentment, so she had the abortion and never told Ryan. She thought they'd have their chance someday, but then he died. Andy gets how Vic feels about not knowing if she should tell Theo or not. Vic says Andy still owes her gossip and asks Andy to have Michelle bring the food there since she doesn't want to leave yet.
Maya and Sullivan go back inside the house and start looking for Travis and Theo. They hear a tapping and follow the sound.
Inside the cellar, Travis, Theo, and Cory hear tapping as well. They start trading taps with Maya and Sullivan, helping them track their location.
Maya finds the trap door and uses her axe to break through it. Once there's a hole, Maya asks them what happened. Theo says they made the ghost house made, so it ate them.
Dayna and Peggy finish filling out the paperwork so they can leave. It beats waiting in an ER. Carina says she and her wife are looking at their options and asks if they used a donor. They say that they did and they can't help but wonder how much of her personality has some from the donor. But using a known donor has its own issues. Carina says it's such an ordeal while straight couples can have a baby from one weekend of sex. It'd be nice if they could just do it without sperm. Jack points out that a pair of female condors in California did that. Ben comes in and asks how they're doing. They tell him he saved them a trip to Grey Sloan, which is good, because they're probably still mad at them for bringing in pot cookies. Ben remembers this. Peggy and Dayna promise not to bring them any baked goods and leave.
Ben tells Carina and Jack that Diane Lewis needs to get off his case. Carina says it's stupid to do what he's doing when all he has to do is talk to Diane. Jack says he could learn to suture. He first did CPR at age ten after seeing it on television. He could learn some of what doctors do, but he already understands waking up with the only goal being to survive. He doesn't want the clinic to be intimidating for people. Jack agrees to a 50/50 balance for the staff. He also wants them to use fewer forms.
Sullivan and Beckett ride back in the aid car. Sullivan expresses concern with how Beckett handled the call, saying he could have gotten someone hurt. Beckett shuts Sullivan down, saying he can follow orders or join Andy at 23.
Theo and Travis have showered and Theo says they could have died and Travis still didn't give him a deathbed confession. Travis tells Theo he loves him. And then he talks about how he resents Emmett because Emmett is very much like his dad, whom he also resented for living in the closet. Travis came out when he was 17, even though it was hard, because he didn't want to live a lie. But Emmett and his dad aren't like that. He feels like a monster for thinking that. Theo says he feels how he feels and that's okay. Travis knows it's not fair, how he feels. Beckett comes in and apologizes to them for losing them during the call. He asks about Travis's ankle and Travis says it just needs some ice. Beckett tells him to get some ice and elevate it.
Andy, Vic, and Michelle discuss the myth that spicy food can induce miscarriage. Vic's food is making her sad because it's the first meal Theo made for her. Andy finally gives Vic the gossip she wants, telling her she slept with Beckett and Robert knows. Vic is overwhelmed and asks for details. Andy says she's not going to keep doing it because it's too messy. Vic suddenly decides to get the pill and make a bed for herself on the bathroom floor. She wants it to be over. And she's going to tell Theo. She toast to the houseboat.
Carina teaches Jack to do sutures on a banana. He's struggling and she says she has had years of practice, plus medical school. Ben asks if the two of them would testifying in court for him. They both say they would, but he also still needs to talk to Diane. Jack says he's like an older version of Ben and Dean wanted Pru to go to the new one. Ben takes out his phone to call Diane. Once he's gone, Carina says Maya's career is her baby. That's what she'll keep fighting for. Carina comes second. Jack says that's not true. Carina says it's difficult, the whole process of making a baby and she worries if it's not all in place before Maya gets her captaincy back, it won't happen at all. Jack says he can give them sperm if that's what's holding them back. Carina is horrified. Jack realizes his mistake and gets up to leave.
Sullivan goes into Beckett's office. Beckett is snoring in his bunk. Sullivan sniffs his coffee cups and then looks in his filing cabinet, where he finds a bottle of alcohol.

Rescues[]
1728 Hayvenhurst Road[]
Station 19 was called out to 1728 Hayvenhurt Road. They arrived to find Hattie, who said that her friends, Tobias and Cory, were still inside. Beckett sent Maya, Travis, Theo, and Sullivan in to do search & rescue. Sullivan saw the state of the house and suggested Beckett call USAR to secure the house before they went in, but Beckett was sure it wasn't necessary and sent them in right away. Inside, Maya sent Theo and Travis upstairs while she and Sullivan searched the ground floor. While searching the upstairs, Travis and Theo heard a voice calling for help. They followed the voice, but fell through a trap door into a cellar. Travis injured his ankle in the fall, but they were otherwise okay and began to search for a way out. Meanwhile, downstairs, Maya and Sullivan continued their own search and found Tobias, who was pinned under some debris. They lifted the debris off him, loaded him onto a stretcher, and carried him out. They then realized they had no radio contact with Travis and Theo. Tobias told them there was a trap door in the house, so they went back inside to find it. Inside, Cory fell through the same trap door and became trapped with Travis and Theo. He said he'd heard them calling, but thought it was ghosts. Maya and Sullivan tapped on the floor until they heard someone tapping back and then found the trap door. They called for additional supplies. While they waited, Maya used her axe to break through the floor so they could see Travis, Theo, and Cory. They were then able to get them out. Back at the station, Travis said his ankle was fine. He just needed to ice it.
Peggy Knox and Dayna Rutledge[]
Peggy and Dayna came into Station 19 with their daughter, Rose. Dayna was bleeding from her nose while Peggy was bleeding from her hand. Jack took Rose, who was uninjured, while Carina treated Dayna in the barn and Ben treated Peggy inside the station. Because of the locations of their injuries, Ben suspected that Peggy had hit Dayna and wanted to call the police. Carina told him to slow down and talk to the women first. After Ben had done Peggy's stitches, he asked her about what had happened. She explained, but realized he thought she had hit Dayna, so she went out to the barn and told Dayna to tell him she hadn't. Dayna confirmed that she hadn't and told a story about what had happened that matched Peggy's, reassuring him that it was just an accident.
