Sharbat Qalzai is a young woman who came into the practice for a hymenoplasty.
History[]
Sharbat came to see Addison saying she had some discomfort. When Addison asked where the discomfort was, Sharbat admitted that she was really there because she'd been raped, but she couldn't tell her father that. She asked Addison to make her a virgin again. Addison talked to them about hymenoplasty, saying it was a serious surgery with risks. Sharbat and her mother said that she was engaged to a man in Afghanistan who would take them back to their country, marry her, and take care of them. In order to do this, she needed to have an intact hymen.
After getting Sharbat's labs back, Addison called Sharbat in and asked if someone was still hurting her. There were traces of sperm in her vagina. Sharbat admitted she hadn't been raped and had a boyfriend outside of her culture whom she loved, despite being engaged to another man. She told her mother she had been raped hoping that her mother would see that she couldn't be married to the man, but her mother found a way. Sherbat's parents had come to the US for her, but they were miserable. Her father, who once taught university, was driving a cab and her mother was lonely.
Addison talked to Sharbat and encouraged her to tell her mother the truth, saying she didn't want her life built on a lie.
Sharbat told her mother, but her mother admitted that she already knew. Shabbat said they had talked and asked Addison again for the surgery. She said she loves her parents and just wanted to take them home. Addison agreed to do the surgery.
Addison took her in for the procedure and asked her one more time if she was ready. She said that her boyfriend was just a boy and they would not have lasted. She said she was ready and Addison started.

Sharbat's parents moved to the US for her, but she saw that it was making them miserable, so she had the hymenoplasty and agreed to marry a man she'd never met in order to allow them to move back to Afghanistan.
