History[]
Early Life[]
Internship at Grey Sloan[]
The day after a tornado hit Seattle, Simone started off her internship at Grey Sloan. She was late on her first day and couldn't get coffee because the cart outside had been destroyed. She froze upon entering the hospital and then sprinted down the hallway to find the locker room, until Richard Webber stopped her. She told him she was late because of the tornado. He said that was yesterday and pointed her in the right direction. She arrived at the locker room just as all the other interns headed out for interim Chief Meredith Grey's welcome speech. She joined them late just as Meredith was telling the interns that they had been picked for a second chance because of their fight and life stories. Simone explained the tornado had caused a family situation but assured her it wouldn't happen again. Meredith advised her to create some extra time in the morning to anticipate the unexpected, a skill highly useful to surgeons.
Afterward, Amelia Shepherd took the group of interns to the ICU to examine an inordinate number of patients who suffered catastrophic brain injury when the tornado blew a bus off of a cliff. The interns were told there were 14 victims, out of which nine were potential organ donors.[4]

Simone is a funny, whip smart, high achiever with a complicated family dynamic. She grew up in Seattle, but never wanted to work at Grey Sloan because of a painful personal history with the hospital.

Trey Delgado[]
She was in a serious relationship with Trey Delgado and eventually, they got engaged. However, their relationship was abruptly terminated when she lost her job due to a breakdown at work and his failure to speak up for her. She moved back to Seattle and joined the newly instituted residency program at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. He eventually showed up at her home in Seattle and apologized for how things had transpired and ended up proposing to her again, which she accepted despite an ongoing fling with and longing for fellow intern Lucas Adams. When the day of the wedding arrived, Simone’s grandmother Joyce thought that she was her mother Denise and told her not to walk down that aisle if she didn’t love him, which lead to Simone confronting her father about her mother being engaged previously. He told her that they met two months before she was supposed to marry someone else and subsequently called off the wedding, which is when Simone ultimately realized that she wanted to be with Lucas so she called off the ceremony.[5] Trey followed her to the hospital and got into a car accident on the way, but once he was out of surgery and in recovery, they broke off their engagement.[6]
