Tessa Hobbes is a patient whose chronic pancreatitis led to her having a Whipple.
History[]
Tessa had been diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis. Other treatments were ineffective, so she was in the hospital for a Whipple. She had a pseudoaneurysm of the gastroduodenal artery, complicating her surgery. Before her surgery, she happily inscribed and signed copies of her books for the doctors and their loved ones. She told them she needed to live because she had another story about Tessa to write and she already had a title for it, but she was in so much pain that she couldn't put off the surgery to finish the book first. After surgery, Nick was concerned about her JP output, so he had Simone monitor her and said to call him and transfuse if it went below seven. Despite this concern, she woke up after her surgery. ("Thunderstruck")
Tessa came back to the hospital a few weeks later when she ruptured her abdomen when she bent over and picked up her groceries off her front porch. At the hospital, she was taken for a CT. She told Simone to get her purse because she needed it. She gave Simone a flash drive which had her final Tessa book on it and asked her to take it to her publisher in Boston. Tessa's CT showed catastrophic bleeding, so she was rushed to the OR, where despite their best efforts, she was pronounced dead at 12:21. Simone handed off the flash drive to Meredith, as she was heading to Boston. ("I'll Follow the Sun")
