Tia Marwood is an OB/GYN resident from Tennessee who came to the hospital for training in abortion care.
History[]
Tia came to Elena Bailey Memorial Clinic for Reproductive Health in order to complete a training program in abortion and reproductive healthcare. She was excited and eager to learn. When a brick was thrown through the window by a protestor, she blamed herself as she'd posted on social media about it, tipping off the protestors that Addison Forbes Montgomery was there. This incident forced the clinic into lockdown. They continued their work with the patients who were already inside, including delivering Andra's baby. Finally, they were able to exit the building through the back. Tia took the opportunity to talk to Addison about how much it meant to her. They were bent down to pick up some things she had dropped when a protestor drove a car into them. Addison attempted to pull Tia out of the way, but she was unable to get her clear of the car in time and she was hit, sending her onto the hood and then down to the ground. ("Training Day")
Tia was loaded into an ambulance and taken to the ER at Grey Sloan, where she remained conscious and was complaining of abdominal pain. They did an ultrasound, which showed blood around her liver and spleen. At the same time, Carina worked to check on the baby. Tia begged them not to deliver him, knowing it was too soon. The baby was in distress, so they went to move her, but she crashed. They intubated and started CPR. After two minutes, Carina did an emergency c-section to deliver the baby and they opened her abdomen to find the source of her bleeding. They were able to restore sinus rhythm and then moved Tia to the OR to continue her surgery while her son, whom she said they were naming Connor, went to the NICU.
In the OR, they removed Tia's shattered spleen, then packed her and moved her to the ICU to give her a break. When she started coding again, they had to open her abdomen back up in the ICU, where Bailey did a Pringle maneuver to control her liver bleeding. After that, they monitored her and gave her fluids. She woke up asking about her son when she realized she was no longer pregnant. Jo brought a phone to show her her son in the NICU. ("Pick Yourself Up")
