History[]
Tobey came into the hospital because she had had additional sensitivity in her breasts for a few months and had unusual discharge from her right nipple. Simone did an ultrasound and then a biopsy, which confirmed that Tobey had breast cancer. When Tobey expressed that she didn't know what to do next, Simone reassured her, saying she knew and would help. ("Mama Who Bore Me")
Tobey returned to the hospital for her mastectomy. To prepare for her operation, she intentionally hyperventilated. She was surprised to find Simone not there, as Simone had promise to be there for her, but Lucas told Tobey that Simone was getting married that day. Through this conversation, Tobey realized that Lucas was in love with Simone. They both watched as Simone came to the hospital, still in her wedding dress, to find Lucas. Tobey caught the romantic tension between them and told them she'd be fine on her own, after which they retreated to an on-call room. ("Wedding Bell Blues") After waiting for her surgeon, Tobey was taken to the OR for her surgery. ("Happily Ever After?")
