“ | In the late 16th century, a father-son team made a groundbreaking discovery. They found that when they put lenses at the opposite ends of a tube, it enlarged objects. Their invention was the first compound microscope. And as basic as it was, their invention was a gamechanger for science and medicine. The invention of the microscope turned the scientific community on its head. It gave scientists a whole new way of looking at things. For the first time, they could see cells and things they couldn't with the naked eye. The simple use of curved glass to bend and refract light revolutionized how we see the world. In many ways, it's not all that different from everyday life. Sometimes seeing life through a different lens opens a new world of possibilities. | ” |

- Pacemaker
Jeremy was acting in a play when he had sudden cardiac symptoms. As he was several feet off the ground, he also injured himself when he fell. Jo and Link, who were watching the play, immediately stepped in to treat him. His pulse was thready and irregular when they examined him. Link noted an open femoral fracture with no DP pulse, forcing him to reduce the fracture immediately. When Link did that, they lost his pulse, so Jo started CPR. His friend said he had a heart condition and read off his medical bracelet that he had CCTGA. There was an AED nearby, so Jo and Link sent his friend to get it. While Jo did chest compressions, Link held pressure on his leg, which was bleeding profusely due to tearing of the SFA. They were able to attach the AED and use his friend's belt as a tourniquet, and used his prop sword to secure it. They defibrillated with the AED and used epinephrine from several EpiPens, which restored sinus rhythm. He was then transported to the hospital, where Link did external fixation of his femur and Teddy consulted on his heart arrhythmia. He lost pulse in surgery, so they started compressions. They were able to stabilize him and finish the surgery. His friend was told he'd need a permanent pacemaker, but he'd be okay.

Nick asked Meredith to do a partial adrenalectomy, because he had only one adrenal gland, as his other one was so badly adhered to his other kidney, they had to take it out along with the kidney when it was donated. Meredith examined him and then scheduled surgery to remove the tumor while preserving the adrenal gland. The surgery went well and the tumor was successfully removed without damage to his kidney.
