Vascular surgery is a surgical specialty concerned with conditions involving the vascular system (arteries, veins and lymphatic circulation), with the exception of coronaries and intracranial vessels, which belong to the cardiothoracic surgeons' and the neurosurgeons' field, respectively. The specialty has strong ties to general and cardiothoracic surgery.
Known Vascular Surgeons[]
- Dr. Claire Williams (Vascular Surgeon in a private practice in North Carolina)
- Dr. Reza Khan (Vascular Surgeon in Pakistan; currently completing a general surgery residency at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital in order to obtain a license to practice his specialty in the United States)
Notes and Trivia[]
- To date, there are no known vascular surgeons on staff at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. Much like the way the show has mostly ignored the existence of the specialty of surgical oncology, the procedures that would have typically been handled by vascular surgeons in the real world have instead been carried out by surgeons from other specialties, such as cardiothoracic, general or even trauma surgeons.
