After Violet files for joint custody of Lucas, an embittered Pete voraciously fights back by hiring a tough attorney for the trial, forcing their fellow friends and co-workers to choose sides and have their personal lives dragged onto the stand and into the public eye.
Violet, while on trial, talked about her time spent in treatment with Ellen Sicher. She talked about the day Katie cut Lucas out of her body, eventually understanding that she chose Lucas above herself when she helped Katie cut Lucas out of her body without hurting him. And she chose Lucas above herself again when she gave him to Pete.
Violet is sworn in and says why she's in the courtroom. She talks about Lucas.
Flashback to Violet going to interview to replace a doctor during her maternity leave.
Violet is distracted by her pregnancy while she tries to answer Ellen's questions.
Violet goes to leave, but Ellen asks if she wants to talk.
Back at the courthouse, Violet is crying in the bathroom when Addison comes in.
At home, Pete and Addison practice what she'll say. Pete tells her to be honest.
Addison is asked if Violet is a fit mother. Addison says no.
"I'm Gonna Make It"
Violet talks about what happened and her guilt that she helped Katie. Ellen helps her realize she was trying to protect Lucas.
Violet testifies to having two past abortions and her choice to keep Lucas.
Violet says she's done the work now and she's ready to be Lucas's mother and before she was, she gave him to someone who would take care of Lucas.
"Hunting My Dress"
The judge rules in favor to Pete.
Sam and Naomi talk about William, who is really sick. And then Naomi talks about missing out on Maya's pregnancy. Sam says she could get involved now. It's not too late.
Violet goes to Addison and knows Addison was behind what Pete said. Violet thanks her.
Addison tells Violet Pete doesn't hate her.
Cooper goes to Charlotte and says she's important to him and invites her to dinner.
Pete talks Lucas to Addison's and hands him to her. They go inside as Sam watches from his house.
