Vic tells Travis that Andy won't stop talking about spaghetti, so now it's all Vic can think about it. Travis can only think about bed. Theo asks if there's any sign of Maya. Andy says she was at the station recently because the treadmill is still on. She's not answering her phone. Ross comes in and asks Travis about him missing the union meeting. He says there was a call. She says they're going to give him a second chance in the morning. Travis isn't exactly thrilled about that, which Ben notices and asks him about. Vic and Andy are forced to go back out when another call comes in for the aid car.
Jack pulls up into the ambulance bay and Benson Kwan comes out with some nurses. They get Maya onto a gurney and put a c-collar on her. Jack explains what happened as they work. They wheel Maya into the emergency room.
Ross goes to see Beckett. He's not happy to see her because the last time she came to his office, she accused him of drinking on the job. She says this visit is in that neighborhood. She's gotten some concerning reports. She asks him about him stepping back on calls. He says he was just trying to give Andy a chance to see that the job is managing her friends' feelings. Ross says the complaints started before this shift. She tells him there's no shame in needing help. They have several programs for people struggling with their mental health. He denies having any problems. Ross says she doesn't want another report like she got. He understands.
Travis says he needs friend Ben, not dad Ben. Then he admits that he told Eli to leak the Dixon story. Ben is shocked at Travis's poor judgment, though Travis tries to justify it. Travis leaking this story could end Crisis One and saving it was the reason he ran for mayor in the first place. Ben remembers saying that Travis couldn't be half as corrupt as Dixon if he tried, but it now seems like he's really trying. Travis says he'll fix it. He'll tell Eli not to do it. Ben hopes it's not too late.
Vic and Andy arrive to find Jamal Romero lying face down in the road with his hands zip-tied behind his back and Officers Jones and Tullen holding him down while Officer Smith holds a gun on him.
Officer Smith says a neighbor called to report suspicious behavior. They arrived to find Jamal carrying a backpack. When they tried to question him, he started running. They got him on the ground and into the ties and called station 19 to sedate him. Vic asks how long they've had him down on the ground. Jones asks how long it took them to get there. Vic asks them to put the gun down. In order for them to be able to help, they need him to put his gun down. One of the officers agrees with her. Smith holsters his gun. Andy realizes Jamal is speaking Spanish and says he's scared. In order to give him a sedative, they need to get him off the ground and out of the restraint.
Benson orders an ultrasound for Maya. Nurse Karen asks if they're starting fluids and he says yes, two lines. He Benson orders trauma labs and says to push calcium and ... Karen tells him bicarb and insulin. But first, they need to make sure she's not hypoglycemic. Karen also says they should call an attending because Maya's one of their firefighters and is married to Dr. DeLuca. Benson checks her blood sugar and it's 102. He also has them page Altman because Maya has an arrhythmia. Karen asks if she should push the insulin. When Benson doesn't reply, Karen tells him she need a verbal order. He gives it and orders an albuterol nebulizer. Karen says Maya's urine is dark and there's low output. They send it to the lab for testing. Outside the trauma room, Jack stands and waits.
Travis tells Eli over the phone not to leak the story. When Eli says he already put it in motion, Travis tells him to undo that. He's changed his mind and needs Eli to fix it. He hangs up and Travis tells Ben Eli's going to try. Ben says it won't change the fact that he did it in the first place. Dottie enters the station, followed by Judith and Gertrude. They need help. Judith shows that her wrists are being held by handcuffs.
Teddy looks at the printout. Jack says he needs to find Carina. Teddy has her paged to the ER. Jack tells Benson to have Carina find Jack first because he doesn't want Carina to see Maya like this. Teddy says Maya's vitals are improving and her head and neck CT were negative, but her renal function is abnormal and her CK is elevated. Teddy asks if she's had any crush injuries lately. Jack admits he hasn't been around the station much lately, but he doesn't think so. He also says no to excessive alcohol consumption. Benson comes back in and says Carina's in an emergency c-section. Maya wakes up. Teddy tells her she's at the hospital and she asks for Carina. Jack says they're finding her, but he'll be there until they do.
Sullivan asks how Judith ended up in the cuffs. Travis says it looks like the key is broken off in the lock. Dottie says a woman's business is a woman's business. Judith says Dottie and Gertrude got her into this mess. Dottie tells her to live on the edge for once in her life, but Judith doesn't want that. Dottie steps forward to take a picture and then they admit it's part of a scavenger hunt they're doing to win a cruise. Judith says she misses Shirley in moments like this. Travis asks who Shirley is, but they brush him off. Judith looks at Travis and says he looks guilty. Travis says it's nothing, but Judith knows the look of shame when she sees it. Beckett comes downstairs just as they manage to get Judith free. Dottie says that's one down, five to go. She asks which of them wants to pose shirtless with one of the ladies on their lap.
Andy says Jamal is calm and he's not going anywhere, so they need to do their examination. Officer Jones reluctantly gets off Jamal's back. Vic then cuts off the zip ties, against the officers' advice. Smith says he's already called for backup if Jamal makes a move. Andy helps Jamal up. He tells them he was making pound cake when he realized they were out of butter, so he went to the corner store to get some. His mom always tells him if the police confront him, to put his hands up and no sudden movements, but he gets anxious really easily. He was scared and they kept getting closer. Andy asks him about the pound cake. Pound cake is his mother's favorite and it's her birthday tomorrow. He didn't mean for this to happen. Andy says it's not his fault. He was being profiled. Andy tells Vic Jamal doesn't need to be sedated. Vic agrees, but they're going to be outnumbered soon, so she goes to radio for their own backup.
Away from Jamal, Vic asks for Chief Ross to come to the scene and says it's now a Crisis One call.
Carina finds Jack. Jack tells her he had to bring Maya in and before he can say anything else, Carina brushes past him to enter the trauma room.
Maya apologizes to Carina for scaring her. She says she just got a little dehydrated. Carina asks Teddy what it is. Teddy explains that Maya has rhabdomyolysis. Carina says she's been working out excessively lately, which Teddy says could definitely have caused it. Maya says she's worked out her entire life and it hasn't been any more than usual. Maya is insistent that she's okay. Teddy says they'll get her on continuous fluids and tells her to rest. Maya tells Carina she's just taking up a bed that could go to someone else and asks Carina to use her pull to get her discharged.
Ben and Travis look over the items on the scavenger hunt. Dottie explains that they do this every year with their Bridge group. Every year has a different theme and his year is firefighters. Beckett reads that they needed to get a photo with a celebrity and he points out Travis, whom they recognize as a mayoral candidate. Travis says he's hardly a celebrity and they really should go for Fire Zaddy. Sullivan comes in with a plastic fire helmet because he can't let them steal a real one. Dottie says with a name like Fire Zaddy, he needs to be in their shirtless picture. Sullivan feels objectified, but Gertrude says that's nothing compared to what she went through as a cocktail waitress. Dottie says if the Normandy Park Bridge ladies win one more time, she'll burn down all their houses. Sullivan says they don't need to resort to arson. Dottie says he's diabetic and has a family history of heart disease. And Gertrude has had cancer twice and chlamydia. Judith's always been healthy and they kind of hate her for it. Dottie is sure they can get Sullivan to take the photo. He suggests seeing what else they can knock off the list.
Maya asks if Carina's really not going to get her discharged. She says she's just a little dehydrated. Carina says she's been doing too much. Maya says she's fine, but Carina points out that she brags about winning a gold medal on a sprained ankle, so she doesn't always know what's fine. Maya says her only problem is being cooped up in a hospital bed instead of helping her team. There was a call and the team is a man down. She needs to get back to work. She asks Carina to take the leads off of her. Carina says she's in no shape to go back to work. Maya says she feels fine, but Carina says she's not fine. She needs help and rest. Maya yells at her to stop telling her what she needs. She says Carina needs to let her go back to work or she'll go on her own.
Smith asks what's going on with the sedative. Vic says Jamal doesn't need to be sedated. Smith says when they found him, he was erratic and combative. That's why they restrained him. Vic says they don't even know if he didn't anything. He ran, which is human instinct. Devlin with the police can be scary. Smith says they're not the enemy. The problem is noncompliance, which is what gets people killed. Vic says it's not up to Jamal to worry about if his anxiety is going to scare the police. Vic doesn't think they're the enemy. She just thinks their training is wrong. She starts to explain what needs to change, but Jones says they don't need to explain themselves to her. Dixon arrives with Officers Williams and Brown. He tells Vic and Andy to step aside so they can take Jamal down to the station. Vic says if they want him, they'll have to go through Vic and Andy. Andy says they have it covered and he's just making it worse. Ross then arrives and asks what the problem is.
Ben takes pictures of Judith and Gertrude and Travis tells him Eli spoke to his people, so they should be good. Judith asks Travis about him being sad earlier. Travis doesn't want to talk about, but Judith says it'll be easier if he just does it. Theo says Ben is the station's dad, so it's hard when he's disappointed in you and Travis has been naughty. Travis says he made a choice that he thought was right at the time, but he didn't consider how much it could hurt his friends. Then he asks who Shirley is. They explain that they had a falling out with their fourth bridge partner, Shirley, and now she plays with their competition, but Judith is sure she'll come around. They've been through hell together, the four of them. At the end of the day, they show up for each other. It's how they've survived. Dottie's the glue. Dottie comes out in turnouts.
Dixon tells Ross she's new, so she doesn't know how things work yet. Ross says she was a spotter in the military, so she sees everything. There are five officers there, so that's six guns and six tasers, including Dixon's. She knows Officer Jones is trigger-happy because he hasn't taken his hand off his taser since she got there. Officer Brown is nervous because he keeps looking between the other officers to see what to do. And Officer Smith is Dixon's right hand man because he keeps creeping closer to her. Dixon is doing damage control because he knows the incident makes his team look bad. That's why none of them have their body cams on. She knows how this work, so she'll play it the hard way if that's what he wants. Dixon says they'll play it the hard way.
Dottie, Gertrude, and Judith wear turnouts and do a photoshoot. They take turns working the pole. On Dottie's turn, she starts to feel faint. Beckett and Sullivan get her up and Sullivan takes her inside to get some food because her friends say her blood sugar is probably low.
Carina finds Jack in the waiting room. He tells her he thought Maya was dead. She was lying there on the floor, not moving. She barely had a pulse. He wasn't sure he'd make it to the hospital on time. And it was Dean all over again. He can't lose another person he loves. 19 is his family. Maya is his family. And he thought she was dead.
Dixon says Jamal is calm now, so there's no need to sedate him, meaning it's PD's call. He orders his officers to bring Jamal in, but Ross stops them. Jamal suddenly gets up and tries to run. Ross, Vic, and Andy put themselves between him and the officers as they draw their weapons. Andy explains that he's having a panic attack. He's terrified. Williams asks if he's armed. Another officer says they gave him a pat down. Ross asks Dixon just to let them take Jamal home. Dixon says Vic should try being a cop. Vic says they run into dangerous situations all the time. Jamal breaks free from Andy, grabs his bag, and tries to run. Andy grabs him as Ross yells that she won't let them tase Jamal on her watch. She has Andy check his backpack. Andy makes him promise not to move, then shows them that his backpack just has groceries. Ross tells the police officers to lower their weapons and go back to their station, where they'll write a report that says they stopped a kid who was just trying to get home to his mom. She draws their attention to a window, where a woman is filming and likely streaming their actions. Either they lower their weapons or they'll be the top story tomorrow. Ross told him she sees everything. Dixon tells his officers to stand down. He repeats the order when they don't immediately do so.
Sullivan takes Dottie's blood sugar and says it's better. She's going to be okay. She tries to get up, but he tells her to slow down. She doesn't want to let them down. They always lose, but her friends are going all out this year for her, because she lost her husband of 60 years. Ever since he died, she has a hard time breathing. She spent over 30 years waiting for him to come back from deployment. When he came home, she planned the best week. She loved him with every fiber of her being and she can't catch her breath now. She has to get it together and win the contest and go on the cruise because she owes it to her husband to go on living and she owes it to herself. Judith and Gertrude knock on the window and asks if Dottie's going to live.
Jamal says his phone is dead and he doesn't have his mom's number memorized. Andy says it's okay. They'll get him home soon.
Ross tells the officers she expects a copy of the report by morning. Vic asks if Ross is doing okay. Ross says no, but she will be. She just wants them to get Jamal home to his mom. She says Vic did good work.
Sullivan walks out shirtless and gets applause. Sullivan says this isn't something he normally does. Dottie promises once they win, he can consider it deleted. She thanks him for making it happen. Travis comes in shirtless as well. Travis says Sullivan wanted someone else so he could look bigger. The ladies argue over who will be in the picture. Gertrude insists that Dottie and Judith do it. Shirley walks in and Dottie is surprised to see her. Shirley says Judith called and said she had a spell, so Shirley went back Dottie's house and got her medicine. Dottie says she's feeling better, but thanks Shirley. Shirley says she's still mad. Dottie says it's okay because at least Shirley's there. Shirley asks for a turn and gets to sit on Travis's lap.
Carina and Teddy enter Maya's room and Maya asks if she's good to be discharged. Carina says she and Teddy have concerns about her condition and the events that led up to her collapse. They believe it's in her best interests to be admitted for a few days until they can get her numbers stabilized. Maya insists she's fine and feeling better. Carina says they believe it's best if she stays in the hospital. Maya says she's not staying, so they can forget about that. Carina says if she won't stay on her own, they'll put her on a 72-hour hold. Maya says no and starts to remove her leads. Carina says they have concerns that she'll try to leave against medical advice, but her situation is critical and they need to monitor her. Maya is shocked that they're 5150-ing her. Teddy says if she walks out and tries to do anything even remotely strenuous, she could die. Maya says she feels fine. She tells Carina to take her home and they'll figure it out at home. Carina can help her at home. Carina says Maya's not going home. Carina can't help her there. She tried to help, but Maya wouldn't let her, so this is her helping Maya. Maya fights her and Carina says if Maya tries to leave, she'll be put in restraints. Maya says this isn't support or love. When Carina's brother died, she could barely get off the kitchen floor and Maya gave her the space she needed to figure things out. That is love. That is support. What Carina's doing isn't helping her. Carina says Teddy will take it from here. Maya says if Carina walks out the door, they're done. Carina says she'll lose Maya either way, but she'd rather lose her and have her be alive. She walks out as Maya calls out to her desperately. Carina leans against the wall outside her hospital door and cries as Maya yells for her to come back.
Vic and Andy take Jamal home, where he's reunited with his mom, Jasmine, who hugs him and takes him inside.
The next morning at line-up, Beckett tells them Jack has just updated them on an incident involving one of their own. Jack found Maya passed out at the station and took her to the hospital. Maya's okay, but she'll be on leave indefinitely. Beckett dismisses them. The others bombard Jack with questions. Jack says Maya's okay. She just needs to rest. Ross tells Travis the firefighters from the union are upstairs. She tells him to be himself and it'll be okay. Travis invites Ben to go with him. Ross asks Jack to fill in for Maya while she's okay. He says he's ready to come back. Vic and Andy celebrate and question him about Maya.
Travis and Ben talk to the fire union representatives, including Captain Wilson. He tells them he's not a politician. He's a firefighter, just like them. He'll do his best to be there, every time on time, but he might have to save someone from a fire first.
Jack tells Andy he told Brooke he'd take her to a coffee shop. Andy asks if he's sure he's ready and offers to go with him. He says it'll be okay. He needs to do it on his own. Brooke enters the station and frets over saying the wrong thing. Andy says they'll definitely related. Jack introduces the two of them. Brooke thanks him for calling and they leave together. As they leave, Meredith comes in with Zola, Bailey, and Ellis. They have cookies for the fire station. Andy offers to let the kids climb in the trucks. Andy asks how they're doing. Meredith says they're doing okay, all things considered, and the house is still standing. Andy says they were just doing their job.
Travis apologizes to Ben for not considering them when he decided to have Eli leak the story. They walk into the locker room, where Theo is telling Vic about Dottie, Gertrude, and Judith. Travis says he felt like a piece of meat and he also felt delicious. Vic checks her phone and see that the Dixon story leaked. Travis is horrified.
Sullivan finds Ross on the roof and checks on her. She says she's all right. It was a tough call. Sullivan says he met a woman who talked about being a war wife. He realized that so many women lived that life. He was selfish to push her for more. He knows she worked too hard to get where she is to risk it. So he'll wait for her, for as long as it takes. He says he loves her and she says she loves him, too. They share a kiss.
Beckett enters his office, closes all the blinds, then pulls out a bottle and pours. He toasts to Maya and drinks.
Carina goes into the closet, pulls out a suitcase, and starts packing it.
Maya lies on her side in her hospital bed. Andy comes in, sits beside her, and holds her hand, but Maya doesn't react to her presence.

Rescues[]
Meredith's House[]
Station 19 fought the fire at Meredith's house. They were force to cut a ventilation hole in the roof. After much difficulty, the fire was extinguished and the house was still standing.
Police Violence[]
The aid car was called out to the north side of Glendale Lane. Andy and Vic drove there to find their patient being pinned to the ground by two officers while a third held a gun on him. The officers said they got a call from a neighbor reporting suspicious activity. They found the patient covering his face and walking quickly. When they questioned him, he started running, so they tackled him and zip tied his arms behind his back and called for paramedics to sedate him. Vic and Andy asked them to put the gun down so they could treat their patient. Andy recognized that he was speaking Spanish and told the officers he was just scared. Andy said in order to give him a sedative, they needed to get him off the ground and free his arms. Once he had calmed down, Andy and Vic got the officers to get off and got him to sit up. He said he went to the corner store to get butter and got anxious when the police confronted him. Knowing police backup was on the way, Vic radioed in and said it was a Crisis One call and requested Chief Ross to act as a police mediator. In the meantime, Vic told the police that he didn't need to be sedated. When Dixon arrived, he tried to get them to leave and have the patient arrested. Then Ross arrived and refused to let the police take him. Dixon said he was calm, which meant it wasn't FD's call anymore and told his officer to take him in. The patient started having a panic attack and all the officers pointed their weapons at him. Vic, Andy, and Ross put themselves between him and the officers and Ross had Andy check his backpack to confirm he had no weapons on him, just groceries. Ross told the officers to lower their weapons and go back to their station. She also pointed out a woman filming them through the window. Dixon ordered his officer to stand down, which they did reluctantly. Vic and Andy then took their patient home.
Judith, Gertrude, and Dottie[]
Judith, Gertrude, and Dottie came into the station in search of help because Judith's hands were stuck in a pair of handcuffs. The key had broken off in the lock. Travis and Sullivan were able to pick the lock and free her. Once she was free, the firefighters helped the women complete several items on their scavenger hunt. When Dottie started feeling faint, Sullivan took her blood sugar, then got her a drink and took her blood sugar again, which showed she was doing better.
