“ | The idea that the brain can convince the body that a fake treatment is the real thing is called the placebo effect. The brain anticipates an outcome and then communicates it to the body. And the body responds as if a medication were given when all that was given was a sugar pill. Studies have found that under the right circumstances, a placebo can have up to a 72% cure rate, making it just as effective as certain medications. So, the lie becomes the truth. It has been proven that what you believe can sometimes determine the state of your health. So it goes to follow that it can also sometimes determine the state of your life. And what you believe can change on a dime. What you believe is right, what you believe is wrong, what you believe you want, what you believe you need, what you believe you are capable of doing, what you believe is a sign, what you believe the sign means, what you believe you deserve. So, if you want to change your life, change your mind. And try not to wait too long. | ” |

Full Summary[]
Simone wakes up on her wedding day to a loving text from Trey that there is a latte waiting outside her door. She opens him to find him there. They kiss and she tells him he's lucky she's not in her dress yet. He leaves and she heads to Lucas's room only to find that he has already left.
Mika drives to work with a sad Lucas staring out the window.
Simone runs out of the house and finds Jules on the porch. She needs a ride to the hospital.
Winston updates Teddy on his patients. She is taking charge of the cardio department while he's in Boston. She has a tooth ache but she refuses to let him miss out on the award ceremony. It's not every day that their Head of Cardio is nominated. Teddy and Benson congratulates him on his promotion, which he has earned. Winston is thrilled. Benson offers to skip the wedding to help out but Teddy declines. He promises to be back in a couple of hours.
Jules shows Maxine her dress. Maxine asks if she has written her maid of honor speech, which Jules forgot. Maxine tells her to say she has never seen two people so happy in love. Maxine inquires if Benson is her date. Jules says no. Maxine comments that she's playing hard to get. Jules tells her she'll see her after the wedding and leaves.
Mika presents Sam's case to Owen and Link, which Sam is not a fan of. Mika says that after eight years of medical training, she is a part of his surgical team, and the formal introduction of his status is part of the system that keeps him alive and safe.
Simone enters the ER looking for Adams. Levi has no clue why she's there on her wedding day.
Simone finds Lucas in the skills lab and brings up how they left without her. He didn't think she was coming in. Simone says Tobey Barrett is coming in for her mastectomy today. She promised Tobey she would be there but then it was scheduled for today. She can't be there because she is getting married today. Lucas gets emotional. Simone says she can't deny what Lucas feels and that they have a connection, but Trey loves her and what they built together deserves a chance. Simone doesn't want to lose Lucas but she is getting married. Lucas will take care of Tobey today.
Outside Sam's room, Link compliments Mika on her work. Sam needs some humbling. Owen orders a CT angio for Sam's left arm. Mika reminds them she has a wedding today so she only came in for rounds. Link checks if Mika finds Sam to be inappropriate with anyone. She guesses he is referring to Jo and comments the inappropriate seems reciprocal.
Jules and Simone run past Benson to the parking lot. Benson is accosted by a woman speaking Spanish. She takes him to Enzo, her son, who is passed out in her car. Benson finds he has pinpoint pupils. Benson picks him up and runs off with him.
He runs into the ER and asks for help for a suspected opioid overdose.
In Spanish, Benson asks Carmen if Enzo could have taken any meds, which Carmen denies. Moments after naloxone is administered, Enzo wakes up. Owen orders a tox screen and activated charcoal. Benson informs Carmen that Enzo is going to be fine but they'll admit him to keep an eye on him. Owen asks him to call CPS. Someone has to figure out how this kid OD'ed. Seconds later, Carmen faints as well.
Mika is driving Taryn to the wedding. This morning, Mika showed her attendings and herself who she can be when she is not buried in debt. She feels like a superhero who unknowingly had Kryptonite in her shoe and it was taken out. Taryn did that. They share a kiss at the red light.
Lucas finds Tobey as she's being admitted. He informs her that Simone is getting married today. Simone didn't tell her so she wouldn't postpone but she asked Lucas to stand in. Tobey is confused why Simone's man of honor is not at the wedding. Lucas says that changed and takes her upstairs.
Jo intercepts Link and Sam as he is taken to radiology. She has been learning ASL and signs while asking Sam how he's doing. He tells her she signed "poop" instead of "practice". Sam learned ASL overseas since ASL "Sesame Street" calmed kids down among the civilian refuges he rescued. Jo decides to tag along.
Taryn and Mika arrive at the wedding. A panicking Trey tells them that the florist had the wrong date. It was his responsibility to handle the flowers and he doesn't know if he should tell Simone. Mika will arrange a bouquet. Mika informs Taryn she briefly worked in the floral section of a grocery store while in college. They explain to Trey that they are on a date. They share another kiss.
Catherine welcomes Nick and Winston on her private plane for a ride to Boston. Bailey arrives. She appreciates them saving her a last-minute seat since Ben decided to stay behind to help at the collapse site. As they all order drinks, Richard tells Nick that he is in her seat. He moves to three-seat couch next to Winston as Amelia boards. Winston makes Nick switch seats.
Benson is with Carmen as a CPS employee introduces himself with a poor attempt to throw in some Spanish. Benson offers help to interpret but he's told an interpreter is on the way. Carmen asks Benson to stay with Enzo. They are just on vacation here and don't know anybody here. Benson meets up with Owen and says her collapse appears to have been a vasovagal response to the stress. Owen says Enzo's tox screen was negative but ordered a specific test for Fentanyl as it doesn't show up on regular tox screens. Levi and Teddy arrive. Levi and Benson go to take Enzo up to the ICU. Owen tells Teddy she needs a dentist as she heads upstairs for a cardio consult.
Amelia tells Nick that Hamilton still hasn't had to increase his dopamine therapy, now 12 months after the surgery, and there are no negative neurological effects. She can't wait to tell Meredith. Amelia says Nick made Meredith really happy. He comments she has a funny way of showing that, which Amelia says is typical Meredith. Now that she and the kids are settled, her mind may be open. She asks about him. Winston comments that she apparently really likes to meddle in other people's relationships. Nick says they are not in one. The more you chase Meredith, the more she runs away. Bailey moves to a seat further away to escape the drama, which Catherine enjoys.
Jules helps Simone to get into her dress. She misses her mom despite never knowing her. On her first date with Trey, a red robin perched on a branch tree close to them. Robins were her mother's favorite so she took that as a sign of approval from her mother. Dewayne, Simone's father, comes in and admires his daughter. There's a thud on the window. Jules investigates and says it was just a bird. She refuses to say what kind of bird and goes to zip up the dress, accidentally tearing it. Dewayne goes to fetch the sewing kit.
Lucas finds Tobey doing some breathing exercises. Her surgeon is still in his previous surgery so it'll be a while. Tobey feels like she didn't appreciate her breasts enough. Lucas says this surgery is saving her life so she'll have the time to appreciate the other things life has to offer. While she is getting a reconstruction, they won't be the same. Lucas says they'll be cancer-free. Tobey says that is the exact right thing to say. She then asks why is skipping the wedding and derives from his face that he has feelings for Simone. She invites him to do the breathing exercises with her.
Teddy meets Link and Jo in the CT boot. The scans shows a grade 1 transection, likely from a deceleration injury. His pressures are good but they should keep a watchful eye. Grade 1 transections usually heal on their own. They should re-scan in 48 hours, though. Jo will take care of that in between her other patients, which Link deems unnecessary.
Benson finds Maxine wandering the hall again as he arrives in the ICU with Enzo. She is lucid but just she got turned around a little. Enzo wakes up and asks for his mother. Benson is called for a consult so Maxine offers to sit with Enzo. Benson agrees. Two police officers arrive to ask Benson's statement for the criminal investigation into Carmen, as Enzo tested positive for Fentanyl.
As Jules sews up the dress, Joyce Ward arrives and compliments her "daughter". Simone plays along. Joyce tells her not to marry Kenneth if she doesn't really love him. If Dewayne sees her for who she is, she shouldn't walk down that aisle. It's better to disappoint everybody else than disappointing yourself. Joyce goes back outside as Jules comments the plot thickens.
Benson returns to the ICU and finds CPS in Enzo's room. Maxine was thrown out of the room. She overheard from the nurses that Enzo's mother is suspected to have given him Fentanyl. Maxine sees that Benson is doubting that. If so, he should fight like hell to help her or it'll keep him up at night when he's 80. Benson says he's just starting his residency. Maxine tells him how she failed to help a teaching assistant who was abused and eventually killed by her husband.
In the ER, Benson watches as Carmen is handcuffed. Levi says she is being taken to the station once medically cleared. CPS only had more questions about the situation after her interview. Benson knows that happened in broken Spanish. Levi wants to focus on Enzo now. Benson says having his mother taken away won't help. They only came here because his father is from here and Enzo has been wanting to see the city. Benson thinks CPS and police are making assumptions that they wouldn't make if Carmen spoke English. She doesn't even know what Fentanyl is, though he knows how easy it can be to be mistaken for candy with its bright, colorful packaging. Benson goes back to ask Carmen more questions. She didn't give Enzo any candy but she left him alone in the motel room to shower. Benson calls for Owen.
The plane is hit by heavy turbulence. Amelia thinks they should go higher. Winston scoffs at her telling the pilots what to do. Amelia once again apologizes to Winston, who asks if she thinks there is truth to what she said. Amelia was out of line and harsh but she thinks there is some truth. She thinks he was supposed to love Maggie, not compete with her. Winston says she has no idea what he had to overcome to get here, the discipline it took. He is the first college graduate, let alone doctor, in his family. He's been called small, a coward, and a failure because his marriage didn't work out, just because he and his wife wanted different things or he won't compromise what he's built. If Amelia was in Maggie's ear, maybe she is the problem. Amelia says she wasn't. Catherine yells that they'll all die at some point, and when they are chilling in the afterlife, will they be looking back at moments like this and feel proud or will they feel ashamed over petty arguments like this? The turbulence increases.
The plane starts going down. Catherine yells that she was supposed to die because of her cancer. Richard holds her hand. Amelia starts panicking over dying as a young mother. Winston takes her hand. Fearing he's on the brink of death, Richard takes the drink from Catherine but Bailey knocks it out of his hand. Then the plane stabilizes and the pilot apologizes. They made it through the wind shear. Catherine starts laughing.
Levi meets Benson outside Enzo's room and says he grew up with a single mom, too. Most of the time, it's a strength. But not all single moms are like theirs, which is why they have to follow protocols, as hard as it can be. Owen comes up and says the police found weed gummies and a bag of rainbow Fentanyl in the room, left by the previous occupants. Owen tells Benson he fought the good fight and won. Benson wonders what to do with the rage. Owen says that is a question for the ages in this job. Carmen reunites with her boy. Maxine smiles.
Jo is checking on Sam's chest tube. They'll probably remove it in a few days. The Doppler signal on his right leg is still strong. Sam says they can tell their kids later that this was their first date. Jo laughs and leaves the room. Link is waiting outside and she asks if there is something he needs to say to her. Link brings up how she's Sam's doctor. She throws in his face that he slept with an intern. She heads back into Sam's room.
Simone and her father appear at the end of the aisle as Taryn and Mika finish up decorating the tables with flowers. Mika then hands Simone a bouquet made with flowers from her neighbors' gardens. Simone is stung by a thorn of one of the roses and she bleeds on her dress. Jules tries to get it out to no avail while Mika and Taryn take their seats. Jules positions the bouquet to cover up the blood. Dewayne says they are all good. Jules takes her place at the aisle. The guest rise as Dewayne starts walking his daughter down the aisle. She spots the dead red robin. Simone stops and asks if her mother was engaged to someone else before him. Trey is confused what's happening. Jules tells him she's never seen two people more in love. Dewayne admits they met two months before Denise was supposed to get married. Simone knows she called off the wedding. Dewayne says Denise always made up life as she went along. Simone looks at the aisle and spots Joyce shaking her head. Simone takes a few steps forward as the doubt takes over.
Benson helps Maxine get settled in bed. Maxine can see why Jules is falling for Benson. Benson doubts that. As Maxine says that Jules is a wounded bird with a massive heart, she start having trouble breathing. Benson calls for help. Maxine gasps and crashes. Benson calls for a crash cart but a nurse reminds him that Maxine has a DNR and a DNI. Benson insists on an intubation tray.
Teddy enters her office as she presses down on her jaw. Owen comes in with a smoothie so she can get some nutrients.
The doctors get off the plane. Amelia thanks Winston with a little nod. Bailey asks Nick if he's coming but he tells her he has something to do. Bailey calls Ben to check in on him and the kids.
The ICU nurse stops her colleagues as they arrive with the crash cart. Benson stops bagging Maxine to get it from the cart himself.
Link works out his anger on the supply room.
Levi yells at Benson when he finds Maxine intubated. He finds that she dropped a lung. Benson points out that they can't half-save her now. Levi moves to put in a chest tube.
Simone, still in her wedding dress, runs into the pre-op zone. Lucas checks with Tobey if she can see her too. Simone makes her way to Lucas and tells him she didn't get married. Tobey tells them to go. She'll be fine.
They move to an on-call room and proceed to have sex.
Nick arrives at Meredith's house. Michael answers the door and tells him that Meredith is at work. Nick introduces himself as a friend from Seattle. Michael will let her know that he came by and advises Nick to text her. He closes the door.
