Wendell Ndugu is the younger brother of Winston Ndugu.
History[]
High School Theft[]
While in high school, Wendell called his brother and asked him to pick him and a friend up from the mall. Winston did so and Wendell and his friend climbed into the car and told Winston to drive away quickly. Not long after that, Winston was pulled over and there was stolen merchandise in the car. He was arrested and his brother and his friend suffered no consequences. ("I'll Cover You")
Coming to Seattle[]
Wendell came to Grey Sloan and roped Nurse Karen into helping him trick his brother, Winston, by posing as a patient with aortic dissection and then pretending to be dead. Then the two of them, plus Maggie, went to get coffee together. Wendell apologized for missing their wedding, saying he had a job go south and couldn't even afford the bus ticket to Seattle. But he had a new job as a medical sales representative. While Wendell and Maggie went to tend their patients, Wendell went to Owen Hunt, who was acting as chief for the day, and pitched the products he was trying to sell. This upset Winston, who quickly realized that Wendell had used their relationship to land the job and came to Seattle to pitch to the doctors more than to see Winston. Despite this, Winston was able to reconcile his feelings and told Wendell he would introduce Wendell to some of the other doctors. He also told Wendell that while he still believed their mother wouldn't have died if she hadn't had to deal with Wendell and their father, he was trying to get past that. ("Road Trippin'")
Medical Devices[]
Wendell did a presentation on the medical device he was attempting to sell, saying it was applied like a patch onto the patient's body and would give a continuous ECG, respiratory rate, and oxygen saturation, allowing doctors to monitor their patients from anywhere. Maggie said she wanted to test the device, so Wendell gave her some. However, the device didn't work. He took it back and said they got the prototype model and he offered a replacement. Winston noticed that the replacement was identical to them first one and Wendell admitted that he had lied. He was desperate to sell the devices because he had taken out a loan from a loan shark to buy them. He told Winston he either needed to help sell them or pay back the loan. ("Should I Stay or Should I Go")
Leaving Seattle[]
Winston put Wendell up in a hotel to get him off his and Maggie's couch. He claimed he was waiting to hear about a job in Boston. On the night of Meredith's party, Wendell showed up expecting to join the party. Winston sent him away, even after he said that his lenders were after him. Wendell sat outside the house for a while before leaving. Eventually, Maggie gave Wendell the money he'd asked for and so did Winston, with each of them unaware that the other had done it. ("Stronger Than Hate")
Relationships[]
Familial[]
He has a tense relationship with his brother, Winston. This stems from their mother's illness and death, as Winston believed their mother focused too much of her time and money on Wendell and their father, which led to her death. ("Road Trippin'") His father was physically abusive to both of them. ("I'll Cover You")
Career[]
He claimed to be a medical sales representative for Trinity Labs, but in actuality, he'd merely purchased $10,000 worth of their product in the hopes of selling it all for a profit.
