Wendy Wilson is a patient of Carina's who sued her for malpractice.
History[]
Wendy was pregnant and came to the hospital with pregnancy induced hypertension and gestational diabetes, so Carina induced her labor. She wanted a vaginal birth, but the baby was large, so Carina decided to do a c-section. The cord had prolapsed, so Carina lifted the baby's head and rushed her to the OR, where she delivered the baby in three minutes. ("True Colors") The baby, Nina, was diagnosed with cerebral palsy after her birth.
Five years later, she came to the clinic to see Carina and was shocked that Carina didn't remember her. Carina was called away before Wendy could say more and then the clinic was locked down due to a potential contagious outbreak. Wendy was upset and scared because her daughter's immunity was suppressed, putting her at additional risk of getting sick. Finally, they concluded that it wasn't contagious and everyone was allowed to leave. Wendy then decided to sue Carina for malpractice. ("Good Grief")
Wendy hired Steve to represent her and she and Carina went through arbitration. After going through the reports and Carina's testimony of Nina's birth, Carina declared that she would not do anything differently if given another chance to do the birth over. During a break, Carina heard Wendy crying in the bathroom and Wendy congratulated Carina, knowing she would win, but told her that her winning would mean that Nina lost. They went back to the room, where Carina asked if she could leave, saying the lawsuit wasn't about either of them and she was going to go to work, where she could help people. Then she gave Wendy her number, saying she'd put her in touch with people who could actually help her. ("Give It All")
