Wes Bryant is a surgical intern at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.
History[]
Meeting Simone[]
While out for drinks at Joe's bar, Wes spotted Simone Griffith doing shots at the bar. He asked if she had had a bad day. She replied it had been a bad year. He commented on her being all dressed up and continued to flirt with her. They proceeded to have sex in the bathroom of the bar.[2]
He went home with her and spent the night. The next morning, he found her in the kitchen with Benson. After making sure the two of them weren't exclusive, he informed her he had put his number in her phone, just in case she wanted to have fun again. He grabbed an orange for breakfast and headed out. Later that day, he ran into her at the hospital during his orientation tour. He wasn't taken aback at all, unlike her, and simply stated at least she already knew he was good.[3]
Starting His Internship[]
Right after Wes completed his intern orientation, the hospital was shocked by an explosion on the OR floor. Wes and his fellow interns jumped in to help, but were not allowed inside the hospital because their internships hadn't officially started. Meredith finally broke open the door to the clinic and started taking patients in there to be treated. She assigned the interns to do basic triage and sent Wes to find Dr. Griffith. He went to Simone to ask who Griffith was, only to learn she was Griffith. Despite the awkwardness, they continued to work together that day and Wes assisted when a fellow intern, Dani Spencer, collapsed and needed surgery.[4]
The day after, Wes was given a tour of the ORs and the intern welcome speech by Richard Webber. He was then assigned to Benson Kwan, who had his intern input orders. As they struggled to do so and he wanted in an impalement case, Benson took over and sent the interns to the skills lab to practice stitches. Instead, Wes went to round on his own. Nurse Karen called him in to check on an AV fistula, which burst as Wes was checking it out. He had Benson and Bailey paged and proceeded to place a near-perfect stitch to stop the bleeding, impressing Bailey. She put him on her service as a reward, thus earning himself a spot on the impalement case. In surgery, Ben threw Lucas out after continuous bickering with Simone and replaced him with Wes. He and Simone removed the impaling metal bar from the patient. After the surgery, Benson scolded Wes for not sticking to his assignment and had him do a rectal disimpaction. Simone suggested he apologize to Benson, but Wes insisted he had done nothing wrong and stated he liked a challenge.[5]
A few days later, Wes tried to call in a favor from Simone to get on a unique lung transplant case. She made it clear that was not the way to go about it as Ben made the assignments. He then joined Bailey and Lucas on Katie Rogers' case. Lucas continuously told him off. Wes inquired if he did anything to piss Lucas off, and Lucas said Wes had slept with his girlfriend. Wes told Lucas he hadn't known but Lucas brushed him off. Later, Simone wanted to give him a head's up about the situation and made it clear that she and Lucas had been and were still broken up. Wes then went to talk to Lucas but stopped when he found Bailey was in the room. While getting gowned and gloved for surgery, Wes told Lucas what Simone had told him, stating he was not interested in having Lucas's attitude derail his career. In surgery, Lucas continued to take over from him rather than teach him how to do things correctly. Bailey sent Wes to pathology with a tissue sample and talked to Lucas about his attitude and the need to teach. In post-op, Lucas gave Wes proper instructions about post-op labs. Afterward, the team told Katie that her gastric cancer had metastasized to her liver, meaning they would need to re-stage.[6]

He had a sexual relationship with Simone Griffith. They hooked up after meeting at Joe's bar and spent the night at her house. He left his number in her phone in case she wanted to have fun again, only for them run into one another at the hospital during his intern onboarding on the last day of Simone's intern year. She made it clear they would pretend nothing had happened between them, though their sexual tension lingered as they worked together on cases.

Benson Kwan[]
Wes was assigned to resident Benson Kwan. They butted heads when Wes defied Benson's orders to go practice sutures in the skills lab and went rounding instead. Wes ended up stopping a bleeding from a ruptured AV fistula, impressing Bailey. Wes refused to apologize as he found that he had done nothing wrong, so Benson punished him by assigning Wes a rectal disimpaction.

Shortly after finding out that Simone had slept with Wes, Wes ended up working a case with Lucas and Bailey. When a resentful and snarky Lucas refused to teach Wes, Bailey scolded him for his lack of teaching, after which Lucas changed his attitude.
