Full Summary[]
Ross flips through the pictures. She asks Andy and Maya who else has seen the pictures. Maya says no one except them and Carina. Andy says Maya brought them to her and they agreed to bring them to Ross so she could get ahead of it. She's sure they can think of some way to fix it. Ross says it's not Andy's problem, but Andy doesn't want to lose her as chief. Ross says this is the smoking gun Maya has been waiting for and asks why she isn't using it. Maya says last time she tried that, it nearly destroyed her life. Andy says Maya came to her because she was trying to do the right thing. Ross thanks them and suggests they get to shift. Maya says she's taking a personal day. Ross acknowledges that and says she'll take it from there. She also says she'd like to be the one to tell Sullivan.
Outside, Maya says she knows Andy wants to tear Sullivan a new one, but Andy gave Ross her word.
Andy comes in with eggs while Travis is cooking. She has a lot of them because they were on sale. She asks if he's talked to Eli. He says no, but he's working for Robel now and Travis promised to help with the campaign, so Eli will have to talk to him eventually. He asks if Andy has talked to him and she says no. They both awkwardly say that the other could talk to Eli if they wanted. Jack comes in, followed by Sullivan. Jack was cleared by a doctor. Ben is excited by Travis's cooking because he could eat breakfast for any meal. Theo says when he was captain at 54, Thursdays were always pancake night. Sullivan says he could do that again. The alarm goes off and they race out to the scene.
Ross goes to see Dixon. He's surprised Maya gave her the pictures. He says all's fair in love and politics and she started it by turning the city and FD against him. She asks what he wants and he hints that the wants her endorsement for mayor. If she endorses him, the pictures get buried. If she endorses Osman instead, they get out. The union will turn against her and no chief has ever survived losing the support of the union. Ross points out that she doesn't have any assurance he won't fire her as soon as he takes office. He says she'll have to take his word for it. She has until the end of the day, after which he'll be going to the union.
On the way to the scene, Andy asks Ben about them moving because of the doxxing. Andy talks about how her father was overprotective of her when she first started at the academy. After all that, he's the one who took a risk that cost him his life. Andy reminds him to keep himself safe so he can be there for his family.
They arrive at the scene, where a two-story house is on fire. Theo gives orders. June Hardy walks out of the house and tells Vic there are about ten more inside. 19 total people live there. She begs Vic to get them out. She explains that she's the house manager and it's a sober-living house. All the boys are clean and sober and so is she for thirty years. June insists she's fine and wants to help, so Vic takes her to Theo so she can tell him who's still inside.
Inside, Jack and Sullivan see signs of a bad renovation as they fight the fire. The first floor is fully involved, so Theo sends in another line. The fire will keep running through the cheap walls.
Ross paces in her office. She calls Sullivan, but he doesn't answer, so she texts him a Mayday. She radios to ask for Station 19's location. She grabs the pictures and leaves.
Maya finds Carina at the hospital. She has a whole day planned, starting with a rage room, then a picnic in the park, then reservations at The Pink Door, Carina's favorite. Carina admits that she's exhausted after a busy night. Maya says she can just drop Carina off at her hotel to get some sleep if she wants. Carina still wants to go out and suggests Joe's instead.
Ben, Andy, and Travis make their way onto the roof. Ben finds a solid path and makes his way across the roof. Ben finds a weak spot in the roof, but before he can say anything, he falls through it into the house.
Travis holds Andy back away from the hole as she calls out to Ben.
Ben comes to under rubble. He tries to radio out, but discovers his radio is lost. He calls up to Andy, but they can't hear him. He activates his alarm, then gets up.
On the roof, Andy looks in, but doesn't see Ben.
Theo sends in a team to find Ben and tells Travis and Andy to get off the roof as soon as they're finished venting. June, who has been trying to get Theo's attention, finally tells him he's going to listen to her. She explains that they had to divide each bedroom into three smaller ones to have enough room. She didn't do it. She just works there. He says her improvised rooms created a fire trap, but she says she's giving addicts a roof over their heads so they can focus on their recovery. It's hard to stay clean on the streets and that's where these boys would be if they weren't with her. Theo asks who is still missing. She says Taylor, Milo, and Chuy.
Carina tells Maya about her last patient, who had three babies. She says when she starts her own practice, she'll do a more even split between pregnant and not-pregnant patients. Maya didn't know she wanted to start her own practice. She wants it so she can set her own hours and have more flexibility for kids, their kids, some day. Not right now. She asks Maya what the catch is for Maya taking a day off. Maya says she has a lot of personal days and after the meeting with Ross, she's grateful not to be at work. Ross hates her and has ever right to. Maya reminds Carina that the bar is the first place they met, but Carina first saw Maya at the hospital. Taryn comments that she was also there. They order drinks. Taryn is surprised to see the same bachelorette party that was there before back again. When they were there before, there were 12, but only 3 remain. The party girls invite Maya and Carina to dance. Carina pushes Maya to join them and then gets pulled in herself.
Jack and Sullivan find Chuy, who is unconscious. Theo sends in Kline and Cutler to retrieve him.
Ben makes his way through the house. He runs into Milo and Taylor, who are trying to escape. Taylor just had knee surgery and can't walk. They tell Ben they kept getting turned around. Taylor tells Milo he still needs to go to Montana and make his amends. Ben has Milo help him carry Taylor.
Ross enters a meeting of the union. Captain Wilson asks what brought her there and she tells them Dixon is preparing to unleash a scandal. Wilson says she started it with the press conference. Captain Farris asks what kind of scandal and Ross explains what Dixon will be saying. She freely admits that what he'll say is true, that she's in a relationship with Robert Sullivan.
Lucy wants them to do shots, but Olivia can't drink any more. They've been at it for 17 hours. Lucy tries to order another round, but Taryn says she's cut off. Lucy tires to climb over the bar, so Maya and Olivia lead her away to get some water. Lucy's other friend tells Carina about staying at home with her two kids while her husband went to Vegas and cheated on her. Carina tells Maya they should leave. They got to leave, but Lucy wants to show them the dance they're going to do. The other two don't want to. Lucy starts to climb onto the bar, but falls to the floor.
Ross explains her history with Sullivan and is emphatic that they didn't date until after she'd promoted him. Wilson asks how Dixon found out and she explains that he had them followed and photographed. She shows them the pictures. Farris asks if she's aware of the policy she's violating by sleeping with them. Ross says in the short time she's been with Seattle Fire Department, she's seen the union look the other way when sloppy firefighters make fatal mistakes on the job. She's seen them allow a serial sexual harasser retire with full benefits. Farris takes her remarks to mean she's anti-union, but she says she's pro-union. She's anti-the system that has things wrong with it. She put her life on the line to serve the country. She's trying to pull the department into the 21st century and is horrified that they want to do Dixon's bidding by focusing on who she's sleeping with. She says the union owes Dixon nothing and they should have her back instead of his. Ross hears on the radio that a firefighter is down at the scene where Station 19 is. She reports that she's on her way. She takes the pictures and leaves.
Sullivan and Jack continue fighting the fire. They report to Theo that it's spreading faster than they can fight it and their exit is blocked. Theo asks the rapid intervention team if they've found Ben and they haven't. They don't have much longer before the house is a total loss.
Carina examines Lucy, who is worried about what her face looks like. She's covered in blood. She's getting married in six days and doesn't want a broken, swollen nose for that. Her friend says she could bleed to death and miss it altogether. Lucy might prefer that to walking down the aisle like this. Carina checks Lucy's head for any breaks and assures Lucy that her husband will only see her, note her makeup or her nose. If he's the man she's supposed to be with, he'll see her for her. Lucy finds it all scary. Maya says the first time she saw her wife at their wedding, there was a moment where everything else faded away and it was just them against the world. The future is scary, but that's the fun of it. Marriage is finding the person you want to share everything with. Carina asks if she could call anyone in the world, who would she call. Lucy says her mom's plastic surgeon, but after that, her fiancé. Lucy realizes Maya and Carina are married to each other. She says they're the hottest couple ever and now she's upset that she's marrying a guy.
Milo collapses and Taylor tells Ben he has bad asthma. Ben leans Taylor against the wall and helps Milo up. They're surrounded by fire.
June tells Vic that one of the boys got six months sober and she wanted to fry him up some fish. She knocked the fryer over and the grease caught on fire and it spread quickly. She started yelling for everyone to get out. Vic assures her it was an accident. June says all the men in there worked hard to turn their lives around. The house may have been a firetrap, but it was all they had. And there are a lot of folks out there that also need it. Vic thinks June's a badass. June sees Chuy get brought to triage and asks if he saw Milo or Taylor. He says he didn't. Vic radios to Theo that they need more aid cars. He says they're five minutes away. And he reports that there's still no sign of Ben.
Andy worries about Ben's status. Theo calls her to incident comment.
Carina sends Lucy and her friends to the hospital to find Owen Hunt. Lucy thanks them for everything. As they step back over to the bar, Taryn hands them wipes and says they're goals and she looks up to them. Maya wonders why they can't get through a first date. Carina doesn't think this one has to be over. She has clothes at the apartment and she could use a nice, hot shower. Maya quickly agrees and they leave together.
Ben settles Taylor against the wall. He gives Taylor his mask and says he can't carry Taylor and Milo at the same time down the stairs. So he's going to take Milo first and come back. Milo tries to insist that Taylor go first, but Taylor tells him to go. Ben picks Milo up and starts to carry him downstairs while Taylor waits against the wall.
Ross arrives and asks about Ben. They've heard nothing since he fell. Theo explains the shoddy construction that's obstructing their progress. Sullivan and Jack report that they're making no progress on the fire. Vic says all critical patients have been taken to the hospital. Everyone from the house has been evacuated except Taylor, Milo, and Ben. The roof starts to collapse. Theo looks over at Ross and then calls for an operational retreat. Andy says Ben's still inside and if they retreat, it's over.
Ben emerges from the house with Milo. He hands Milo off and tries to go back, but the others hold him back.
Taylor sits and waits inside the house.
Sullivan and Jack fruitlessly fight the fire. They tell Theo their exit is blocked. He says he'll send someone after them.
Milo is loaded onto a stretcher as Ben fights to go back in after Taylor.
Taylor waits.
Carina lights candles, takes off her clothes, and steps into the shower.
Sullivan and Jack are led out of the house.
Milo yells at Ben for not going back as he's led to an aid car. Ben watches the house burn.
Maya joins Carina in the shower and they start to kiss.
Everyone is relieved when Sullivan and Jack are safe.
Maya and Carina have sex in the shower.
The firefighters fight the fire from outside.
Andy tells Ben he fell through the roof, which he knows.
Vic tends to Ben on the way to the hospital. She tells him there was nothing he could have done.
Back at the station, Sullivan checks his phone. Ross tells Theo he saved a lot of lives, but he's upset that he couldn't save all of them. He's tortured by the thought that Ben would have died if he hadn't made his own way out. Ross tells him he made the right call and it's a win. Once she's gone, Jack says he doesn't envy Theo. He was happy fighting the fire without being a ranked member of the team. And Theo kept them safe. He was a good captain.
Maya and Carina are lying in bed when Maya's phone chimes. She checks it and sees there was a rough call. She notices Carina is crying and asks if they moved too fast. Carina says the sex isn't the problem. She can't move back into the apartment. Maya says she didn't ask her to, but Carina knows she wants her to. She wishes she could because they had a magical day, but being back at the apartment is painful. She spent months in their bed alone while Maya shut her out. Carina wasn't the person she ran to. She was the person Maya ran away from. She thought she was ready to be back, but she's not. Maya apologizes for what she put Carina through, not listening when Carina tries to help her. She knows the version of them that is happy and light and lovely died in that hospital room, but she is willing to put in the work to rebuild them and make them stronger than ever. She knows from the first time she saw Carina in the bar, Carina's the person she wanted to call. She and Carina hug.
Ross finds Sullivan, who is surprised because he just got a call from his union rep asking if she'd pressured him into a sexual relationship or if she'd ever promised him favors for the relationship. He wonders who talked. Ross admits that she told the union.
On the roof, Ross and Sullivan fight. Ross says she wanted to tell him first, but she didn't have time. He thinks she could have waited, but she wanted to get ahead of it. Sullivan thinks she's only considering herself. Ross says it doesn't matter anymore that the relationship is consensual because she'll never be chief again. Sullivan still thinks she's thinking about herself first. He leaves.
Theo works out in the gym. Vic comes to him, but yawns. She's tired with everything. She wonders if she should take a shift off every other week until finals. Theo goes to check the calendar, but she was talking to boyfriend him. She's upset that she can't talk to him about non-work things at work anymore. He says he was trying to help, but she just wanted him to listen. He says he'll stand there while she talks. Vic gets upset and leaves.
Travis says he's there for Andy if she wants to talk about anything Ben's situation might have stirred up for her. She thanks him. She tells him life is short and scary, so he should go for it with Eli because she knows he likes Eli. He tries to deny it, but she assures him that she and Eli would never work. Travis says Eli won't talk to him now that he's dropped out of the race. Andy tells him to call Eli anyway.
Theo is in the office when Ben comes in. His arm is in a cast. It's broken along with two ribs. He'll be off duty for a while. Theo says Jack already called in for a sub for him. Theo invites Ben to stay for breakfast for dinner.
Travis texts Eli asking to get coffee. The team is getting things ready so they can eat. Andy watches Sullivan as he walks in. Maya and Carina come in. Andy texted them. Kate Powell comes in and jokes with Theo and Travis, who are happy to see her. She's Ben's sub. Theo introduces her and says she worked with him and Michael at 54. They start to reminisce as the team watches.

Sober-Living House[]
Station 19 was called out to 2618 Prescott Street. They arrived to find a two-story house on fire. Theo ordered an evacuation and send Andy, Travis, and Ben up to ventilate the roof. June Hardy came out of the house and said that nineteen people were living there and they'd partitioned off each of the four bedrooms into smaller rooms to house them. June helped them figure out who was still left inside. Inside, they discovered that the fire was spreading quickly through the cheap partitions. While ventilating the roof, Ben fell through a weak spot. Inside, he was awake, but unable to use his radio. Theo ordered Travis and Andy off the roof as soon as they finished ventilating. While they was happening, June said that Milo, Taylor, and Chuy were still inside. Jack found Chuy on the first floor and Theo sent Kline and Cutler in to bring him out. Ben managed to get up and found Milo and Taylor. Taylor had had knee surgery and was unable to walk on his knee. Ben had Milo help him carry Taylor as they made their way to safety. The fire spread upstairs and Jack and Sullivan reported that the fire was reigniting behind them as they worked. Theo told them to keep working as another team was behind them. As Ben, Milo, and Taylor moved, Milo collapsed. Taylor said he had bad asthma and couldn't take the smoke. Faced with stairs, Ben gave Taylor his oxygen because he couldn't get them both at once. He said he'd take Milo first and then come back for Taylor. When the roof collapsed, Theo was forced to order an operational retreat, leaving Ben, Milo, and Taylor inside. Shortly afterward, Ben came out with Milo. He tried to return for Taylor, but the others held him back. Jack and Sullivan reported that their exits were blocked by fire, so Theo sent another team in to get them out. Milo was taken to the hospital while Ben was given oxygen. They then continued fighting the fire from outside.
